View Full Version : Low carb diet
Anybody know of/got suggestions etc etc for a low carb 1500 calorie meal diet?
I wanna start with 1500 calories meals then cut that down to 1000 or less.
Am ok with brekfast, lunch and snacks. Can have fruit and them slim fast shakes.
I looked all over google and tried wading through pages of links but just want evening meal suggestions.
Somthing that wont need a master chef to make or need me to goto the finest shops to get the ingredients.Nice and simple will do.
There are probably lots and I am over thinking this.
Anybody got any ideas?

Diet is a nasty word just like 'slim fast' and all the other brain washing crap that gets advertised as 'slimming aids'.
if your putting weight on or cant loose it then your eating too much it's as simple as that.
don't diet, change your habits, reduce your intake and exercise. yes it is that simple.
I have done that and also the smaller plate thing.
Thing is I have always been big and I have a very slow metabolism ( even if I cant spell it)
So need to cut down more.

1000 calories a day for any length of time is just bad for you, pure and simple.
Work out, cycle and do about 4 hours a week of exercise. Eat clean and you'll notice a massive difference after about 6 weeks. No pain, No gain. 1000 calories a day will eat all the muscle first as your body will assume you are starving to death.
I was doing 10 miles a day on my cycle. didnt make a lot of differance

Well I was 18.5 stone in may. Just over 16 now but christmas will knack that completely. Basically I ate very clean with very few simple carbs 6 days a week and did a 40 miler on my bike at the weekend and three hours on the rowing machine. On average I dropped a pound or two a week of fat. It's incredibly hard but once you get into it you do start to burn more.
interested to know what you was eating and what size portions
don't use scales and don't try to loose weight. instead change your mind set.
loosing weight should be a slow thing. aim for loosing a stone or two in a year. it takes as long as it takes and there are NO short cuts.
i have a mate who has always been big and he is always on this diet and that diet but wont believe you when you say 'your eating too much'. he usually replies with the typical answer of 'i don't' ok then if you don't eat too much then where is the excess weight coming from?
it make no odds what you eat its how much of it you eat and how much at any one time. SMALL snack often just to keep your body ticking over and you WILL loose weight. another thing is don't get hung up on meal times.
you would be surprised at just how long it takes your body to use up a simple salad sandwich.

Well I have a semi active job (teaching). I find my body responds very well to protein and I always feel full as a result. Breakfast is generally some big chunks of iceberg lettuce and sliced turkey and maybe a slice of cheese. That see's me happily through till 10am and i'll have something similar, or a very small protion of mixed nuts and dried fruit. Dinner is often a chicken, beef, turkey, pork salad. PLenty of lean meat and shed loads of greens, peppers, tomatoes etc. Dress it with some olive oil, salt pepper. If i'm working out i'll have something with simple carbs in about 3pm so I have enough energy after work. A banana or something often works wonders. Then for tea i'll generally roast a load of vej, peppers, sweet potato, mushrooms, tomatoes and some salmon, lean beef etc. You have to mix it up though or you'll get bored.
Basically i've found that if you eat well 5-6 days a week and do some exercise you strip lots of fat. Weigh training can ramp it up a great deal but i'm mostly interested in losing bulk at the moment so I go for cardio rowing/cycling. A lot!! There are no short cuts, but stick with it for at least 8 weeks and you will feel awesome. Oh and alcohol is the worst thing you can do. Obviously you will, but just dont do it more than twice a week. The odd glass of wine midweek is pointless so sack it off.
Here's my input. 80/10/10, that's your carbs, fat and protein respectively.
Meat and dairy, although delicious and satisfying, is really your enemy for looking and feeling your best.
Getting your calories from clean fruit sugars will feel like you're cheating. You can have 3000+ kcal a day and still lose weight. Eat clean, move a bit!
I generally have close to 1000kcal for breakfast in fruit sugars with naturally little fat or protein. The thing nowadays with protein obsession is just going to make people ill jamming up their intestines with powders and meats. Bodybuilders want a quick result and overeat.
Anyway, I am leaner and more muscular than most of my peers, and get compliments a fair amount. But you dont get enough protein I hear ye cry. Well I think most people have a warped view on how much you need. 200g a day? Does anyone think they even put on even 5g of muscle a day? Sure it has other functions too, but you get 50ish grams easily on fruit. Bananas for example are perfectly balanced.
This is all my take on it anyway, who knows what's right, people think 'broscience' is correct but it is often unhealthy and so many natural bodybuilders are on the juice and make money tricking young guys into thinking they can grow huge with whey and lifts in a year.

I wish i could just hammer fruit all the time and remain svelte. Unfortunately for me anything that even hints at spiking my insulin makes me fat. SO booze, fruit, chocolate etc. Vej and meat works so I stick with it. I'm not full of powders and stuff though. Although creatine is impressive if you are training hard.
I get what you're saying but I will say I blamed the sugar for years and got pretty big on creatine and proteins but it was all so fake, I wasn't actually very strong and my cardio became terrible in muay thai. I am a stone and a half lighter, lifting more and faster now. You wear the fat you eat. I find if you're having even little bits of fatty foods with the fruit you can put on weight, but that's the fat, not the sugar.

Yeah I agree with that too. I try to keep me fat around 20% of my diet, other wise i'll gain. I mainly need clean vej, meat and small amounts of dairy etc. and plenty of cardio. I've recently decided my body is designed for endurance and cardio as opposed to weights and bulk. i.e its mostly slow twitch muscle where previously i was convinced it was fast twitch. Basically i'm a fat thin pertson, lol.

Mens daily intake according to the doc's is 2500 ain't it so aim for say a slightly less say 2000 you dont need to count every one but hit around that mark
But make it a vaired diet if it aint natural dont eat it. Salads, tuna, chicken, red meat, eggs, brown bread if you must still have it but limit it. Try and cut pasta but have wholemeal it you fancy. Have oats in the morning good start to the day. And do forget to treat yourself once a week to your chippy or curry.
Water is great most of the time when the body gives you the im hungry feeling its your body being dehydrated, take a 2litre bottle of water with you to work make it your aim to finish it before you get home, don't sip but chug it down when you get a hunger pang.
Weight loss in theory is easy, eat less move more. So get out walking in the evenings or cycle but if your into it mma is great for weight loss high intensity training great to shed the pounds.
It might seem celeb mag tips chessey but take a pic of your self before you start and then once a month its a great moral boost.
And don't give in once you start the hardest part will be the first two weeks once you reset your brain and stomach to what it's getting and not what it is used to things start to get easy. And when you do go for a big feed some time you will struggle to eat what once was easy to finish off.
Try to make it fun and involve an activity you like dont make it a chore.
Hope some of that helps mate.
And all the best
Pretty good advice all round. I am also gluten intolerant. Another thing to mention is sodium/salt will make you retain water and make you look fatter than you are!
Anybody got any ideas?
Fresh anything is better than processed anything in most cases (e.g. fresh fruit, fish, etc). The quality of the food should be the starting point.
Portions - you're right. We all have different metabolisms. But you must also realise that its not a fixed thing. It reflects how your body creates and uses energy over time. The body is great at adapting.
This is why a lot of retired footballers balloon enormously. They continue to consume the same or more calories without the body needing to use that energy. Naturally over time, the metabolism slows and weight is gained. Then you are in a vicious cycle of chasing your tail to get it back off.
We are all giving opinions, so mine is this. Find an activity to engage in, most days if not everyday. How you wish to moderate the intensity of the activity is up to you, but it must be something you will do long term. Over time, your metabolism will adjust to suit the activity because the body will work out how much energy is needed.
Your calorific or energy intake can be moderated to suit the activity, along with your usual daily consumption. So you will not need to stick to a fixed calorie diet, you will just tailor your needs accordingly.
The effect will be that you will use more energy and, if you generally expend more than you take in, you will lose weight. Building lean muscle improves the metabolic rate a bit, at least initially, and over time your body will settle down to a more desirable weight.
If you try the quick weight loss methods, you are crashing your body. It is not adapting naturally but is being forced to adapt too quickly. Unless you intend to keep up the 1000 calorie regime long term, your body will simply revert to its long term state once you increase your calorific intake without making the other adjustments.
I know this is slightly off topic to your actual question but I hope it provides a different perspective to consider.
(P.s. I'm addicted to cakes and cannot resist sweet things. I'm told I should die at the rate I eat but I'm still alive and well to make this very long rambling post ;))
Everyone has different theories on weight loss, just find what works for you! I found that reducing my carb intake, and upping exercise helped me shed! I was running about 6miles, x4 times a week! Carbs just make me sleepy whenever I eat them!
Whatever you do, stick to it... Reduce your carb intake for 6 weeks and then scoff your face on it will make your body convert it all back to the fat your trying so hard to get rid of!
If you want to try running (I was 17st and no 'runner') try the NHS couch to 5k plan (C25K) I tried it and am now training for my second half marathon since march! Also join up to the runners forum.... Soo much info and motivation on there!

And very much this!
If your wanting to lose weight a couple of changes will help massively. Jackie has given one of the good one. Eat less processed food (Ready meals are one of the worst things your can eat, followed by MaccyD's and donner kebabs).
I've got to hold my weight below 90kg for health reasons (I'm 6ft and lightly built), so I eat a slightly restricted diet to control my weight. Get to the gym and speak to the instructors as they will be able to help with training programmes to lose weight (It'll be mainly cardio with a lot of core muscle work), most gyms have the specialist equipment to check body weight, muscle mass etc....
When you train, just have water nothing else. The protein shakes are a waste of money, a pint of milk has similar nutritional value as a pint of the shakes and doesn't give you the ****s (the milk that is). Also don't have anything to eat before you train (it'll aid fat burning as there will be less ready available energy, so the body starts to eat itself- so to speak), if you need to have something before you train, have a piece of fruit
If you regualrly got to starbucks costa etc... don't go get a caramel and hazlenut latte with a mocha whip (or what ever you get), have a straight coffee instead.

Look up Paul Chek and How to Eat, Move and be Healthy.
The other guys are right, no processed food, cut out dairy, pretty much if its not natural it shouldn't be inside you. Don't drink either if you want to follow what this guy says, I won't give up drinking but just not very often you do feel better I promise if you cut back. Easy to say but I really can't give up chocolate, so I just eat less of it.
Update time,
I have lost a stone since 31.12.12
Its been going well.
But on Monday got rushed into hospital after collapsing at work.
I had an uncarcerated umbilical hernia.
Am back home now feeling very sore.
