Hi guys and girls!
I have just brought a 09 plate restricted sv650s :D
Pick it up on the 5th of Jan (after it has had the restricter fitted)
CANT WAIT! Haha
My profile pic is me sat on it in the shop
My question is where is the best place in the Tamworth area to meet new bike mates? I don't know a soul who owns a bike... Sad ino...
Also has anyone any experience on the restricted SV? Your thoughts?
Cheers, Matt
Very reliable, very easy to ride, you should have fun!
Make sure you get some crash bungs on that shiny 09 plate.

Crash bungs already on ;) the fun part sounds good!
Welcome! It's a nice bike to ride restricted. You getting an ecu or washers? I'm sure there will be someone on here nearby.

Thanks! I sort of just left it with the guys at the garage to sort out as my knowledge is minimal. ECU rings a bell though

That's fecking beautiful. Mines a naked one and I'm restricted. Not had a chance to properly go out on it but from what I have ridden its an immense bike.. Have a look in the regional area on this forum for any nearby sv'ers

Cheers Lew, that was exactly what I thought when I walked into the shop! Saw it sparkling in the corner and had to buy it! I won't be able to compare it to anything as the only bike I've risen is a 125 which I rented to do my test on so I'll take your word for it :) no I havnt seen the regional area part of the site? I'll have a nosey now...

Welcome along. Very nice looking bike (for a pointy...:) ), especially with that stripe along the centre.

'Regional clubs and get togethers' bit :)
I'm currently riding my 125 atm, and my Sv is my first big un like yourself. Be interesting how this performs against my friends (all restricted) gs500 and bandit 600... Apparently I'm gunna smoke em off the line but we'll see.
But yes, you've chosen a nice en

Cheers Gary! "for a pointy"? What else? ;)
They're both beautiful bikes I must say.
Lew, I'm sure it'll be pokier than the gs and the bandit. From what I've read these sv's take to restriction very well?
LewSpeight
26-12-12, 05:38 PM
Aye. Apparently so, most of the power tends to be bottom end so isn't effected much by the restriction. Mines an 06 nekkid....

Very nice, much prefer the black frame to the earlier models. When will it be on the road then? Why the 125?
LewSpeight
26-12-12, 05:44 PM
Yeh me too ;)
And the 125, main reason is insurance, when I turn 19 I get my no claims through again so insurance drops from £3k to £600 third party f&t.. That's in feb so I'm just gunna hang on.
Means I can ride this 125 through winter too and gives me time to tweak the Sv in the mean time
Jarvis21
26-12-12, 05:51 PM
Thats a he'll of a drop! Well worth hanging on bud. Will you use the sv daily in all weather? I've heard mixed reviews on the sv performance in the wet. Front spark plug gets blocked? Or something along those lines? I'm most likely talking out my **** though
LewSpeight
26-12-12, 05:56 PM
Haha yeh I've heard the same or something similar... I've ridden my 125 pretty much everyday since I've had it. I did my CBT in the snow so I'm no stranger to 'all weather' riding. I used to race DH mountain bikes in all weather so i get a rush and love been out in snow/rain.
Only time will tell about the Sv's all weather performance, I'm getting all the radiator covers and such to try take the strain off it haha.
But yes... I'll be out every day, unless its 3ft of snow, then I'll have a long and hard think about it
Jarvis21
26-12-12, 06:02 PM
Oh the lovely british weather. If we just wait for the sun the garage door won't open so I'll be riding in the rain no doubt. Yeah, I've also read about these covers your on about. Think I'll do a bit more research and invest. Thumbs up to the rain riders
LewSpeight
26-12-12, 06:04 PM
Hell yeh! Definitely invest in the 'Oxford bone dry', imagine it like a onesie made from tent material, does a fine job of keeping me dry and it was torrential the other day!
Of it doesn't have one already. Get a fenda extenda. Best 18 quid you will ever spend. Otherwise you will be chugging up a hill with 16.5bhp jolting like mad being overtaken by lorries. Trust me ask the gm lot when it happened to me.
LewSpeight
26-12-12, 06:15 PM
Ah yeh! It was on my crimbo list but forgot about them. Thanks for the reminder

Matt, how many moolah's did you swap for that machine? (If you don't mind me asking, I'm incredibly nosey)
Jarvis21
26-12-12, 06:48 PM
3.3k with new service, new mot, new tyres, restricted, new clutch, 3 month warranty 13,000 on the clock. The garage is only down the road from mine so is convenient. Ino I didnt get a bargin but I don't think it was exactly over priced?
LewSpeight
26-12-12, 06:49 PM
I'd of taken it :) that's nice is that buddy. I'd be proud!
That's a decent price if its a good one. Even though restricted, be careful in the winter. It isn't the wet you should be most concerned about. Its cold tyres IMO. If its properly raining then you're most likely to ride accordingly and good tyres will grip all day. But slightly wet and very cold roads are tricky especially when the tyres aren't up to temp. So make sure you get some heat in em before you start doing any serious riding.
What a lovely looking bike :)

26-12-12, 07:02 PM
Cheers pete and thanks for the advise runako. I won't be riding in bad conditions unless I have to as I've got a shed on wheels to shield me from the elements. Not until I've got some experiance anyway

Make sure they give you the original unrestricted ecu with the bike. Then when you come to derestrict it you wont have to (expensive)buy one. Also a must if you sell the bike.
Jarvis21
26-12-12, 08:43 PM
Thanks for the heads up, I will do. Think a bike is more sellable derestricted or restricted?

Welcome, fella. On a " restricted " sk6 myself, love her, plenty of power. My first big bike after a 125, handles pretty well in all weather. Only the top end is restricted on 33bhp ecu. Just ride safely get used to the power and cornering.
Get eating those miles
LewSpeight
27-12-12, 03:56 PM
It's easier to sell it restricted, puts the value up massively cos these restricted ecu's are like gold dust.
Buuuuutttt saying that all the restrictions are changing soon so I've no idea how the market will turn
Beautiful bike, and blue is the best colour! Good luck!

Best looking SV I've seen for a while. Some people will bash you for your rim tape. Ignore them! Looks good!
As biggles said, make sure you get that unrestricted ECU if that's how they're doing it. 5 minutes job to change it over ;) and as for resale, it's not just new riders who buy SVs, so a restricted one is no good to an experienced biker unless they're 82. ;)
Not sure about this SVs are bad in the wet business though. Sounds rubbish to me. At the end of the day it's what rubber is in contact with the road and how you ride it. It should serve you fine! :)
Best looking colour for an SV even if I do say so myself. Could be something to do with that its just like mone.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Glad you like her, only 9 days till I pick her up now :D my dad has already been tearing me apart thanks to the tape...
Will make sure to get the original ecu when I pick it up, save me some cash in 2 years time!
Nice looking bike you got there sniff, even if I do say so myself ;)

Also fella beware of riding when there's any salt on the road - it can cause corrosion literally within hours of hitting your bike.
Used to think people were being a bit OCD when they told me to wash the bike straight after riding on salted roads but I've seen rust form between putting the bike away at night and getting it out again the next morning.
Doesn't matter so much with my old steed but you don't want it on a mint bike like yours.

Cheers Chris, when you say'wash' after a blast on salted roads, you mean just hose her down? or a full on scrub?
SUPERSTARDJ01
28-12-12, 04:14 PM
Make sure you scrub those tyres in for around 100 miles possibly more in the wet, I'd be asking for conti road attacks or BT023's best tyres around, if you ride all year round get some ACF50, SV's rust badly, get some decent waterproof gear, heated gloves or grips, crash bungs as those panels are expensive to replace and insurance will probably right the bike off, and just ride safe.

Hose down or wash with I think warm water as if I remember cold water activates the salt.

Sorry I'm wrong-
Removing Road Salt
The salt contained in the gritting process in the winter can cause corrosion on your motorcycle. Wash your motorcycle as follows:
Clean your motorcycle using cool water. Do not use warm water. This worsens the effect of the salt.
Dry the motorcycle and apply protective sprays or wax to the metal surfaces.

I didn't know that - good job you looked it up.
Salt is also the grim reaper of chains if you don't keep on top of it. I had to replace a chain/sprocket set which had a good four thousand-ish miles left in it after the salt clogged up the rings, causing a tight spot which wore the teeth off the front sprocket. And that's despite having a Scottoiler.
I'm not complaining though - if you've ever ridden on an untreated road in sub-zero temperatures, you'll agree that road salt is a necessary evil.

They have already put on the new tyres: Pirelli diablos. Thanks for the advise on the washing off salt, I would have done it with warm water personally... Good job I asked!
Nice bike Jarvis... makes me miss my bike even more :'(
What's the mileage and how much did you pay?

The front plug wetting issue is real and fairly common. Not as common on later bikes mind.
A fender extender cures it. And a splodge of grease around the front plug seal helps.
Also fella beware of riding when there's any salt on the road - it can cause corrosion literally within hours of hitting your bike.

Just slather it in ACF50, protect it first. Washing is optional.
Washing it is a waste of time if you don't put something else on it, you just expose fresh metal and wash the crap into the nooks and crannies. Some of the worst bikes to work on are the clean ones!
If your chain got a tight spot with a scottoiler on it then obviously something wasn't working properly. Get a bit more oil flowing and it nicely washes all the salt off the chain.

Chris, as soon as I'm on the road I'm gunna bring it up to you and see what you think needs doing to it, that's with a 'if you don't mind', and a 'please', and a beer ;)

I was meant to be collecting it tomorrow... Turns out after a phone call today that some part needed to fix the headlights still hasn't arrived... Been waiting on it for two weeks! It's the switchboard by the way, they say the light switch is jammed. Oh well! It's my 21st birthday on the 13th and insurance will rejuce by £150. I'm not going to be able to pick her up until the 15th now due to work commitments... Save me a couple of quid though
Plus id rather them fix it properly than do a botch job!
