Hi all
Looking at getting a leather jacket but I'm on a fairly low budget of £110 max.
Found 3 potentials, but one from eBay i'm a bit sceptical about but i'll go into that in a sec.
The three:
Frank thomas pacific red: http://shop.motorcyclenews.com/product/137/frank-thomas-ftl298-pacific-leather-jacket
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/X-men-Fashion-Motorbike-Leather-Jacket-Motorcycle-CE-Protection-All-sizes-/321022793157?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Clothing&var=&hash=item4abe7315c5
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251088266312?var=550146436006&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Now the third one (lucky strike) seems to be from a fairly reputable eBay dealer so I'm not too worried about that particular one. However, there are other sellers selling the same jacket for cheaper prices, but both some somewhat dodgier and are not from as reputable sellers:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121040320764?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360221108458?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Now I know many of you will just say spent an extra 40 quid and get an RST one but the budget is strict and I simply can't afford to spend any more than that.
Any advice appreciated!
Dan
From the sounds of it you wont be able to afford the petrol to ride anyway. So getting a new leather jacket is a fruitless act ;)

You're a mong :smt019
Spend extra and get the RST!
Don't know I would want to trust the lucky strike jackets??? Whats the quality of the leather or the stitching like? Too late when sliding down the road at ?? mph!!! Looks more like a fashion item than a piece of safety equipment. Search for 'always wear your leathers' on here, not a pretty site.

unfortunately they only specify CE armour, not how well they are put together (the rest of the jacket isn't CE approved), so without the "feel" test or a well known brand you have no idea of the quality of the garment, most are made of a lighter and softer leather than used to be the case, Personally I prefer the stronger ones, so only buy what I know or have seen in person, of course this carries a premium but worth it in the end after all it's protective wear first and fashion second :smt102
Personally if money was tight I wouldn't rule out a decent secondhand one?
Cheers Mark.

Yeh those are my worries, as they're not branded you can't vouch for quality of stitching etc.
@Mark yeh I've started looking at secondhand ones, starting to think the best bet would be to go for something branded.
With regards to the Frank Thomas one though, I would have snapped that up had I not heard stories about their ****e quality. Anyone got any experience with this particular jacket?

Cheers Mark.

As well as eBay check out Preloved. You can search in your area and don't have to commit to buying so can go and try on if the seller is cooperative. I got a full set of Hein Gericke all season textiles for £60 and they'd been worn twice by the seller's wife. Bargain.
What size are you after?

Check infinity as their sale started today. Also HG to see if they have anything or motts if they are open.

My first set of leathers (2 piece suit) were second hand and I still wear them now. It's by far the best and cheapest way to get yourself some decent kit. I have also just bought a brand new but second hand set of Wolf one piece leathers for £100.
I've heard bad stories for most of the branded suits to be fair but Wolf, Arlen Ness, Berik and Hein Gericke usually get good results in the tests that matter.
Regards
keep an eye out for Scott Leathers on ebay. good quality triple stitched leather and made in the UK.
+1 Secondhand, bought a Berik jacket and was prety much new. Leather really cleans up well and dcent jackets all have removable liners. Got the jacket for about 40 quid which was a steal.
You can get a good quality known brand set for 100 easilhy this time of year i would of thought. Arlen Ness, Berik, Dainese, RST, Scott, Alpinestars etc etc all very good and will last for years.

Hideout are also excellent. Made near Saffron Walden in Essex but they don't often come up for sale. Mr LPH has Furygan and they seem very well made too.

IMO you need to try on a jacket to be sure you are happy with the fit.
I went to the bike show one year with the intention of getting an RST - tried them on and they were just uncomfortable. Fitted well everywhere except under the arms, which meant that on a bike it would have been hell after 20 minutes. Glad I got to spend my money on something that fitted and wasn't replaced after 6 months.
Had a few bits of Frank Thomas stuff - leather trousers, textile jacket. Good stuff. Even bought another pair of trousers cos they were only £60 at the show and my current pair are fine. Bought my first ever pair of trousers off ebay - £20 secondhand. Still got them but were a wee bit too big.
Textile trousers are not comfy - too hot with liners and too cold without! can't recommend. Talk aboot betty swollocks!
Gloves were pretty cack as well.

Cheers for the replies everyone, sorry haven't been online for a couple of days.
Think I'll go down the secondhand route tbh, though there are some decently priced branded new bits of kit that I've come across. Tried a few bits and bobs on in HG the other day seems like I'm after a size EU 52.
LPH thanks I'll check out preloved.

+3 to the second hand. It's the only way to get quality for cheap.

The only place for something with the word ' fashion ' in it is the catwalk!
