Bought this just over a month ago now. Still keeping the curvy of course for the more serious riding or commuting. But I'll have no shame in admitting I've always loved the look of these, as you may remember from a thread I started some years back.

Well one test ride was all it took to fall in love with the machine and make the decision an easy one. It struggles a bit as you push on after 90mph, but it has plenty of low-end grunt. The sound of the engine and exhaust is like music to my ears, and the riding position is a fun and refreshing change from the sporty SV's (actually I really love the riding position!). Riding on unlit country roads at night and you can barely see yourself on a bike, you just blend into the surrounding darkness.

I hope to convert this to a 1200 at some point, and and in the grand scheme of things I'm working my way up to a nightrod, although that won't be for some time yet.

Who said SV's and Harleys can't sit alongside each other in a garage harmoniously? Or maybe I've now got some org flaming coming my way.

if that's what you want then good on you and enjoy every minute of it. i do like the look of them but they don't go round corners and that's where i get my thrills but each to their own and all that jazz.

A Harley is like going from driving to town to getting a free Annual bus pass, it happens to everyone but indicates when there's a mid life crisis ;)

Fit the 1200 kit, then it will only struggle above 95mph.

I like the look of that. I must admit I'd really like to try one

What a lovely looking bike. I'm by no means elitist and if you enjoy it then its worth it. It looks absolutely gorgeous though. Only problem is now you have to get kitted up to look as good as the bike!

That's gorgeous! Best of both worlds with that and the sv, enjoy.

Thats quite nice. I think Harley would do more business with the post baby boomer's if they tone down the chrome like on this one. Not sure about the rhinestone exhausts though...

Ha well Im 25 so what will I do when Im 40?

To me it feels like going from driving a quick little car to a slower big black truck. Still plenty fun though.

The SV's reserved for my turbo charged hyper adrenaline fuelled mode when I push myself. This is for my more laidback cruising chillout moods.

She's a doddle to ride, very smooth and extremely fun. Poor ground clearance admittedly but variety being the spice of life and all that.

Plus the same speed on this feels faster than my sv, although I suppose that's probably because it's a naked.

When you do make sure one of us is around to ride with you.

That way you'll get a lovely comparison and find out how much you'll cry if its your not bike.

Nice, I've been looking at these recently, think they look cool. I can't talk I ended up buying a Japanese clone of a Sportster, a H**da VT750S, wish I could have something faster aswell though.

Looking forward to the summer now!

Thats a seriously lovely looking bike. All you need now is the handle bar moustache and aviators.

ive also just bought one, and drilled a little hole in the baffle so it sounds like a harley, the lights are crap the handling is limited but then i never ground down the pegs on the sv. since the sv ive had a 1200 bandit and a versys and as lozzo seems to be copying me a harley must be next for him!

That's how I'd prefer riding if I had one of these too, in case anyone saw me :p

The 1200 kit is a good way to go. If I had room/money for another bike I'd definately get another HD - they are a lot of fun especially 2 up (maybe not on that seat though!).

Hagon make a decent upgraded shocks and fork springs for the 883 if you want to smooth the bumps a bit

Let`s face facts , if a bike has issues then it gives you something forward to spending future dosh on to make it do what you want , there are those that will argue about getting the right bike in the first place and then there are times when a bikes looks will win you over . The pointy was like that for me , it looked great in my eyes (don`t give a t055 what you curvy owners say so zip it and shut ya yaps) . The handling wasn`t great but I soon rectified that with springs and oil up front and a GSXR shock at the back . Half the fun for me was doing the research into what worked and didn`t work . I must have read this forum from top to bottom and eventually found out what would work for not too much money . Sum total came to about £100 and my bike handled nicely . Cost more to sort the wrist ache out but at least the thing went around corners without me having that "Fear of God" look on my face . Have fun with the new ride :) , plenty of options out there to make the road seem brighter and better lit and plenty of handling options .

Hope you enjoy it.

theres stuff on you tube about it if you shine a light down the exhaust you can see the baffle to be drilled i just got a long drill and drilled down the end of the exhaust i suppose the larger diameter drill the noisier it gets

its your hard earned cash (or easily earned if your lucky :p) so your right to choose your steed, looks nice for what it is, although not my choice. but then I quite fancy a small cc bike for work, maybe even another vespa :smt071

Definitely better without the cromosexual finish - black black and more black is a good look.

Enjoy your new bike, despite the fact it's the sort of bike that polarises opinion, if you like it and you want it that's all that matters.

Vive la difference!

Very nice, I too believe that a sportster and an sv go quite well together hence I own both a sportster and an sv, you will have to keep an eye on the paintwork as Harley paint straight to metal without any undercoat and they like to rust!

Thanks, I'll check it out. Although I don't think I have the heart to start hacking away at it just yet. And my ears ring plenty when I get off this thing as it is, really need to start wearing ear plugs.

The shoddy suspension was definitely the first thing I noticed on the Iron and it is without doubt the very first thing I am going to sort out. I've slightly got used to it now, but I'm yet to take in on a lengthy journey and know it will not be comfortable by the end. Thanks for the Hagon advice.

Too true, much fun to be had on both. The dealer chap warned me about the rust issue so I'm keeping a close eye on it. Any rain out though and it will stay nice and sheltered in the garage; means the sv gets to come out and play:)
