Bar End Nut - Where to Get?

Hi

So if some fool had lost a bar end nut (possibly called a flange hex nut?) down the handlebars and could not recover it, where could he find the right replacement nut without buying a new bar end set?

Presumably a nut lodged somewhere inside the handlebars is no problem?

get a metal coat hanger and straighten it out. put a small bend on one end with a pair of pliers so the bend is small enough to fit into the handlebar end. stuff the bent end up the handlebar till you can feel a little resistance (this is the rubber well nut) and then pull the rubber well nut out. once out the nut should come out.

as you have found out you never ever completely undo the bolt at the end of the bar end weight, instead you slightly undo the bolt a few turns then push/pull/turn the bar end till it comes out as one unit.

Thanks, but I actually got the rubber bit out, but not the nut. I think I have pushed the nut right down into the centre of the handlebars. it won't come out. Though it easier to get a new nut?

they are a special nut and only available from suzuki. part number 56273-10G10

Remove the other bar end and push it out using Bibio's coat hanger?

You could find yourself looking for an annoying front end rattle if you don't get it out as the vibrations will possibly dislodge it from where ever it has settled and it will be rattling up and down the tube.
I suggest a small telescopic pole magnet if the nut is steel and the handlebars aluminum

Take the bars off and give them a shake...

If you have access to a air compressor you could remove the other bar end and blow it out from the other end.

Re the nut any nut of the same thread will work all it does is grips to the rubber expansion grip I had to do this as a mod after fitting Renthal bars as the original flange nut would not fit inside the end of the Renthal bars works just fine for me.

Dicky Ticker's (genius mate, thanks!) advice worked for me. I got a "pick up tool" from the hardware shop for £1.50 (essentially an expandable car aerial with a small magnet on the end, had never heard of them before). 5 minutes of fishing and the nut came out on the end. Excellent!

The coat hanger didn't work for me, but probably would for someone more careful and patient. For me, it just got stuck in the handlebars and caused brief panic.....

The bar end is still pretty loose, but I am not sure there is anything to make it fit a bit tighter?

I recently fitted Oxford hot grips and they don't seem to fit as well now, even though I trimmed off the extra rubber on the end of the grips.

Pleased to have sorted the nut anyway...

Update - Lost the right hand (throttle) bar end on the way to work this morning. Damn.
