Havent been out with the camera for a while, but I had hoped to catch some more low flying swallows, so off I went today these little birds are super fast - doesnt help that my dog was trying to catch them, pretty pleased with this shot though:

Trevor's Travels...

Every year London puts on an event called Open House http://www.londonopenhouse.org/ where you get to see places not normally open to the public and participating museums allow free entry. Last year I went to Abbey Mills Pumping Station http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbey_Mills_Pumping_Stations to see the beam engines but this year I got the brochure and made a full day of it. If you're not interested in history, architecture or engineering sorry - this is a bit long...

First stop was the London Canal Museum http://www.canalmuseum.org.uk/ This is a tiny place that is in a former ice warehouse. The ice wells are still there and I took a tour down into them. Difficult to photograph but I had a go.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4034a_zps19ff5a78.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4034a_zps19ff5a78.jpg.html)

In the other well was an unusual art installation, inspired by some physics experiments I did not understand. Art is not normally my cup of tea but it photographed well.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4036a_zps5ece5764.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4036a_zps5ece5764.jpg.html)

My second stop was round the corner for Kings Cross station. Unfortunately the new square outside is not yet finished and had barriers and fences in the way, so I could not get a good shot of the original façade that they were revealing as part of the area's regeneration. The poor lady with the clipboard was also being mobbed by trainspotters so I did not try to get on the tour of the clock tower. Took a shot of the modern bit of the roof as I was there because I liked the colours.

Sir Trev
22-09-13, 06:29 PM
The next leg was a long train ride down to Crystal Palace. The station brings you out at the lower end of the site of the Palace, before it burned down. It's a lovely park but you do come across some odd staircases flanked by statues that go nowhere...
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4049a_zps2eb8eda9.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4049a_zps2eb8eda9.jpg.html)

But I was there as I'd got a ticket in the draw to see the Subway http://cpsubway.org.uk/ This used to link the (no longer there) High Level Railway to the upper end of the Palace site. Not normally open it is a remarkable place and with very little vandalism and just some tree root damage it's remarkably well preserved and well worth the trip.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4057a_zpsbf5c097f.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4057a_zpsbf5c097f.jpg.html)

Sir Trev
22-09-13, 06:36 PM
The final stop on my tour was in Rotherhithe for the Brunel Museum http://www.brunel-museum.org.uk/ Another tiny place it's set in the pump house of the birthplace of all underwater tunnels and all tunnel boring machines. To begin the tunnel the Brunels built a caisson above ground and under-dug it, allowing gravity to help sink it down (like a giant biscuit cutter!). From this point they dug out and under the Thames - the first tunnel ever made by boring as opposed to cut-and-cover like the original Metropolitan Line tunnels. You have to crawl trough a tiny door but we were taken into the caisson for a short talk and look around. It now has a floor level to allow this but directly under our feet was the entrance to the tunnel which is now used by London Overground services. I'd come through the tunnel on my way north from Crystal Palace. Difficult to photograph I still had a go. You can just make out the line of the original staircase in the top left.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4107a_zps46c4cb00.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4107a_zps46c4cb00.jpg.html)

Before I headed home I stood beside the Thames for a last look around. As well as the Shard, the Gerkin and other landmarks I noticed this building. Apparently it melts Jaguars...

Interesting car at work, a 2002 Chrysler Prowler.
This one with just 2,200 miles.

http://www.allenschevron.com/p3__1024x768_.jpg

Other than the front coilover shocks, under it's bonnet is rather boring, in contrast with the rest of it's styling.
Nothing special about the stock 253 hp 3.5L other than a black cat (prowler) on the 3.5L sticker atop the engine.

http://www.allenschevron.com/p2__768x1024_.jpg

The frame is hand made of aluminium. The transmission is located at the rear end. Not sure how much air that cooler will get there.
The exhaust tips are actual mufflers.

http://www.allenschevron.com/p4__1024x768_.jpg

Overall I'd say, a strange mixture of old and new styling that is really impressive live.

Yes, ironically a Chinese crane ship which had just delivered new cranes to the port.

Now there is an interesting scene.
Whilest two Police cars were at the garage being serviced, a huge lorrie crashed into a bus then ran over the fuel pumps.
Then a VW crashed on top of a fire engine that was responding knocking it off the road and on top of the bus!

My only question is, how many cc's has that huge Lambretta have?

Mine for today. I was stripping a generator that was in for repair. The big end bearing had gone. I poured a little of the oil into my magnetic dish, it looked like this after a couple of minutes. Shows how much metal was in the oil.

Steel Eye :)

Mine for today - just popped over to our Academy and David James, the former England goal keeper was having some wicket keeping coaching with a couple of the Middlesex players while being filmed for BT Sports.

taken at work as I needed to see how this facility was clamping the assembly.

Mine for today:

My friend Wim from South Africa who has been here visiting.
He took this picture as he was leaving this morning so he could say "Hasta la vista ....Altavista" on facebook. LOL
Afrikaan is his first language and he has a perfect terminator accent.

Jukes seem to feature in your scrapage list often, anything I should be concerned about? (I jest of course) but are the jukes more complex or just newer making them trickier?

My other half has moved in & brought her menagerie with her, so here's the latest member to the Mister C family. She also has a grey tabby that is scared sh*tless, so hides behind the sofa & a Labradoodle that is as mad as a box of frogs. The dog is staying with his Nan until the cats settle in. Can't wait for the day he comes back as all 3 have never lived in the house at the same time.

I'm in a mystery location for a couple of days. The neon and never-turned-off LCD displays were irritating last night after 12 hours of travel but this morning I opened the curtains to find I have mountains in the near distance. Much nicer.

Off for a wander in a bit and I'll get some better shots (ie, not taken through the window).
