Ooh, thanks for playing, I'm at £138.95 and I haven't counted the coppers yet!
I pity the poor bank teller at the end of this.
PS nice shot Gary! I love a good sunset, I'm not so good at finding foreground interest yet.

yes, it was.
I've delayed my bike ride, when I took my youngest to school the ABS came on at a junction due to the frozen puddles :(
Nice and sunny though, so I'll be going out once my toes have warmed up, as I've been in the garage for an hour.

A shot from my morning commute, as I was taking it I couldn't get "Smoke on the water" out of my head, hence the title.
(anyone else get this, they have a title in their head as they are taking (or developing) the shot? or am I just a tad too pretentious ;))

Thanks guys, I'd sorta dismissed them as they aren't quite how I saw it in my head but you guys seem to be getting what it made me think so maybe they aren't as bad as I think.
This thread and my project are making me think and try a little harder, normally if I'd have got up there (if I'd gone to the effort of getting up there at all) and seen it misty I'd have turned back around and given up because unless something really stood out at me in misty conditions I wouldn't bother. But I had hoped I'd still get a sunrise up there so I persisted. No joy on the sunrise but it did make me really TRY to take some shots. (I came back with 49 pictures and selected 6 as passable, none as flickrworthy (hence the photobucket) but I came back with some pictures and learned a new trick)
It also pushed me out of my usual workflow (I wanted to say comfort zone but that's just over stating it) as when processing them, all the usual tweaks I'd do (contrast, clarity, vibrance, highlights and shadows) would negate the mist in the image and leave them with rubbish light and no real sense of the mist. Instead of applying the effects I had to reverse them in some cases. Hardly thrilling but just wanted to explain what I'm learning thanks to this thread :) (And I do like a good waffle of course)

were you having to use a lot of your zoom range to get them or could you get closer with it only being a trackday?

Thanks once again.
I used to put scaffolding up for the TV cameras at Oulton park & noticed that most of them are on corners, so always try to look for the best place to get the photo from. There are 2 good places really, 1 is at Druids & the other at Lodge.
At Lodge, you are right next to the circuit, so I used 70mm, druids is slightly further from the track, so I think you would have to use a slightly longer zoom.
I seem to have this thing for churches at night at the mo. Been looking at this place for nearly 2 years as it's on the way to Jo's house. So, last night I parked the bike up & set the up tripod.

I was only partially awake, after it had recognised you my mind was trying desperately to come up with your name or a suitable greeting but all it could muster was "Ey up!!" but it worked, and it was nice to catch up with you, hope your day improved after a stroll at lunch.
Those instructions are some classic engrish right there.

Dropped a machine off at Cholmondeley (pronounced Chumley) Castle. Took a snap on my mobile.

"Congestion, Stay In Lane" is not something you want to see on your commute home at 7.25am after a 12 and a half hour shift, especially when you're about 2 miles away from source of said congestion...

If somebody could make this bigger....Richie, if you can mod my post. I can only upload images in this way from my phone.
Went for a waddle with the kids, and fluked this shot on my mobile. Very brisk, but beautiful day in blazing but chilly sun :)

wow, yesterday was a busy day for people!
BP: do you often take so many pictures or were you on a day off? (curiosity and jealousy prompt this question, they are very nice shots!)
Richie: been meaning to ask and it is the one thing your exif data doesn't tell me, what camera are you using?
I've got an idea for another shot but I need the right weather conditions (and enthusiasm)

Bret its a Canon 400D
And here's me mentally complaining at myself about my 450d not having high enough ISO performance, guess I need to suck it up and just get better ;)
Mine for today.
My son and I went to Westgate Rd in Newcastle to find me a motorcycle boot repairer. then popped into Cloggsy & Ed's favorite motorcycle shop "M&S" ;) then on to the Discovery Museum to kill some time this afternoon.

Jealousy wasn't the 1st word that came to mind with me ;) Cracking shots Pete, love the 2nd one.
Richie. like that "Turbinia", what a smart boat
Here's mine for today. Went back to the castle again to collect said piece of equipment & saw this view on the way to the cricket pitch. Took on my mobile once again.

I've got one for today, not too inspiring but I was using the IT office projector as my own personal art gallery, 15 minute changes on the picture. Brightens the day a little as we have no windows.
