Another early morning walk for me this morning before work, makes a pleasant change to have a bit of sunshine.

Yet more flora around Trev Towers. Aquilegia, common name Columbine. Lovely spring flowers but unless you want the damn things everywhere you need to remove the seed pods that form after the flowers have faded. [/Titchmarsh]

Mav, it's a shame that the Skoda was in the background on the B & W picture, it would look ageless :)
Been up to the Wedgewood Memorial in Bignall End today, pass it every time I travel to the other half's & wanted to visit it for about 2 years. The view from the monument is astounding, it's 360 degrees over the Cheshire Plain & Staffordshire. I had a quick faff with HDR too today.

Substitute the Buzzard* for a Red Kite and I see that almost every day. It's almost like the crows have an Interceptor Of The Day and they vector in on any Kites getting too close to their nesting areas. We have a LOT of Kites so the Interceptors are kept pretty busy.

*we get the odd Buzzard too

Found part of the riverside path in Marlow blocked off. A scruffy handwritten note on one side mentioned a swan nesting and sure enough from another angle as I peeped through a gap in the trees I spied this Mute Swan sitting on their nest. Bit of a zoom in but it made sense to keep the more idiotic members of the public at bay. I still seemed to get a Paddington Bear Stare though.

So what's outside the door to my house? Mum and dad keep coming in and out with food so I'm guessing there is a big supermarket out th.... WOW!!! That looks scary. Do I really have to go out there?

The baby Coal Tits from the nest box by my sitting room window were seen peeking out this morning. By the time I took this at lunchtime they were getting braver, and by the time I got back from a spin on the bike at 5 they'd all fledged. Sweet.

I've just seem the theme of this months photo comp! I was rubbing my hands together because where I live, we have a whole lot of wildlife in the wild!

For example. Within 20 minutes of seeing the Theme was Wildlife...

http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/Skeenabear.jpg

http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/Skeenabear2.jpg

Seeing as I only have a little point and shoot, getting much closer will be... interesting, but I'll try.

I'm planning to stalk the huge Bull Elk in the alfalfa field as my entry and that may take a few weeks! :-)

Note: Just after I took these, the next door neighbour's lama, which was looking at me and not the bear suddenly shifted focus and charges the bear (I kid you not). The bear panicked and ran into the trees behind him... which is a 50 ft cliff. The bear bounced down the cliff and I headed him off at the bottom, just missing another shot as he barelled down to the river and headed off through the brush!. I love living here!

The tough as nails lama! Don't mess with him! He kicks bear @rse...

Ah forgot to point that out, after seeing a post on here trying to sell one I looked at them so much I ended up really wanting one so saved what I could and sold items to fund it and bought myself a canon 70-200mm F4L with IS.
Absolutely cracking, really solid and picture quality is continuing to impress me. The zoo day (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brettnet/sets/72157633567300652/) I had with it was what I'd been looking forward to since I bought it and it worked so well.

Bought second hand but still worth more than my body (make of that what you will ;))

It must be a bit short for taking pictures of birds as small as blue tits, huh?

I finally managed to get decent shots when I got 300 f4 - and added the extender.

Brettus
04-06-13, 03:30 PM
It would be but I can get close enough to almost fill the frame yet far enough away not to scare them. I don't particularly like birds so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. 400 with an extender is more range than most telescopes ;)

I debated if I needed more reach but for the most part I don't so for the few times when it'd be useful it seemed to make more sense to go for the better quality in my main ranges. I use wider lenses more than zoom but I missed not having a zoom when my 28-300mm sigma broke.

Top marks Richie, justifying that latest purchase very well! My hat is off to you sir, I rarely (if ever!) see so many shots when out for a walk somewhere.

Latest purchase is a 50mm f1.8 lens... :)
wasn't going to buy one but since it was a hot day the cash was burning a hole in my pocket so went to the local camera shop.
got to get used to it as I'm used to ZOOM in and out... now you have to really frame your subject / scene.

cheers for your kind word ;) respect.

Been wanting one of those myself, supposed so be REALLY sharp and great value for money. I've just been held back by my own frugality, they were £55-60 when I got my body, but ever since they have just gone up and up, kept expecting them to come down but they never have :( should just get over it and purchase one really but I'll see how you do with yours, you might be the last bit of convincing I need :)

Anyone got any tips on how to motivate me back into photography? I've lost it completely.

give yourself a challenge, a quota of pictures to take, you will start thinking like a photographer again as it makes life easier for yourself :) New kit often helps enthuse you but not as much as you expect it to I find.
This thread keeps me taking more pictures than my bare minimum for project 52 too.

I've got the same problem.

Perhaps I just haven't got as much time any more? But then, I always could find a minute to take pictures before...

Popped down to tent 2 this morning and outside I found this!!:

http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/wolfprint.jpg

Along side a set of fresh Moose tracks (that are a 12" long themselves!), was the reason the Bull Moose was running!

6" wide wolf tracks! Now just have a pop outside and see the average size of a Labrador track. It'll be about 2 inches or maybe 2 1/2 inches wide at most! So what size is this wolf then? :-) Its chasing a Bull moose which stands 8 ft at the shoulder and probably weighs 2000+lbs! a Bull moose will be a full 11 or 12 feet at the top of his antlers!

Not 20 ft away was a fresh bear poop too!

... and we have guests staying in that tent tonight! Exciting times! :-)

Well my pic for today is nothing like as interesting as Berlin's!

Was in London yesterday (sadly unable to go in today or I'd be meeting up with the Soho folks) and was heading for Jessops on Oxford Street. Just above Boots a few doors away was this very wierd frontage which just shouted "snap me". I left the street lamp in for perspective and contrast. Architects are a wierd bunch.

Here's mine. Been to 3 Sisters at Wigan today playing on the 400. I've been setting the suspension up (which has been fun :p) Think I've got it something like now :) I've actually picked my own pace up throughout the test session, feeling quite satisfied with myself, but can still go faster I think

Love all the different reflections in that frontage Sir Trev!

Mine for tonight - back to the dogs for now! Wanted to get some shots of Eric "in motion" so to speak. This required someone else to throw the ball past me poised with the camera, I think they turned out ok, a little off centre, but not too bad!

Went down to get some shots of the Cranes doing their mating ritual in the fields this morning but couldn't get within 200 yards of them. Super spooky at the moment.

So here's a pic of the Panorama run on the Skeena river looking panoramic...

and the reason they call it the Panorama run is because this is the view directly behind me...

Not too happy with my pics yesterday, this is probably the best of the bunch. Didn't use a monopod & now regret it as the 400mm lens is hard to use without.
