Intermittently dragging front brake.

Hi guys

Im having a bit of trouble with my front left brake

When i leave the bike overnight and return the the bike, the front left bike seizes on quite badly to the extent it takes some serious force to move the bike, but if i force the bike backwards and forwards for a few minutes it gradually gets better and then when i ride it, goes away completely, if i park it up for a few hours and come back to it, its fine. It just seems to be for anything over 12 hours

I have taken the Caliper off the disc (not disconnected brake hoses) and just cleaned it up a little, pushed the pistons back whilst the master cylinder cap was off, and lubed up all the moving parts

but still my problem persists

Is there anything i could try to do myself or will it need removing completely and taking somewhere to have it rebuilt? (unfortunatley i do not have a brake bleeding kit)

When you cleaned it up did the pistons move in and out ok?Also did the caliper slides move ok?If both did then the problem is probably nothing more than the pads sticking to the discs which is ok as long as they free off when you move.If either of the moving bits on the calipers are stuck you need to rebuild it.

Had this same issue with mine, and thoroughly cleaned the pistons on each caliper,with the left caliper being far worse than the right side. I`ll fit new seals at some point, but had to do something as I could hardly push the bike the other day.

Ideal time to flush new fluid through the system too.

Also where does everyone buy their replacement seals?

I have very high tech one...

I have a water bottle, cut a hole in the top to feed some clear plastic flex pipe, put a screw in the the bottom of the pipe, cut a slit just above it to allow brake fluid out. So attach the free end to the bleed nipple, there you go a brake bleeding system. Should cost about £1.

wow makes mine seem prehistoric, jam jar with no lid, just a bit of clear pipe and enough brake fluid for the pipe to go into.

Nice seals, unfortunately i don't think they will fit my bike

Thanks, i shall get my calipers apart tomorrow and check the seals and no doubt replace them
