I'm hoping maybe one of you guys can help me out with getting a HID with a halo in this:
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/05/peryjutu.jpg
Now I'm kinda looking for a step by step on what exactly to buy and how to make it work etc.
Now obviously there's no way of riding with just the sidelight on my Sv (06 nekkid) and ideally I wanna put a switch in so I get a choice of:
1) sidelight (halo and led's on the fairing)
2) low beam (with led's) and either halo or not, not fussed.
3) High beam with everything on.
I keep thinking I understand hid's but then something always comes up that confuses me.
If anyone can be a*sed then please help me :)
if it doesnt make sense tell me and I'll try again
:salut:
you will have to see if there is enough space to fit the lamp in that unit.
if you go for a projector you will have to separate the glass from the main body of the headlight.
if all is ok then you connect everything together and add a live/neutral feed to the battery.

You're the man I was hoping would come along and read this post!
What exactly am I looking for? Like what dimensions and stuff, I'm pulling it to bits soon anyway to spray the black so I'm guessing I could do it all at once
what are you looking to fit. HID projector with angel eye or normal HID?

If you want HID it will have to be a projector unit because I think a normal HID bulb would melt that thing, and the beam pattern would probably be crap. Doesn't look like there would be room for two projectors so you'd need a bi-xenon single projector (with halo) for high and low beam. Not sure if you can buy a single one because most a designed for cars.
To have just the halo and sidelights on with no HID would mean wiring an additional light switch because headlights are always on on pointys. You could probably use curvy switchgear or similar which I think has an off switch.
Depending on what loom you get, you will probably have to alter it a bit to have a single light, and also to get the HID ballasts hidden under the tank or where ever you decide to put them

Lance, this is where i get stuck. Am playing a complete n00b here, please explain the differences?

Yeh i've been looking at the ballasts and stuff and im going with the 'stuff it wherever it'll go' idea. But yeh, im not over fussed about having two projectors, would look cool as fudge if i could though. And i was thinking about maybe wiring in a simple switch that would just turn off the projector whilst having it in 'low beam' setting, thus leaving the LED's and halo on. Not sure it'd work or not though!
I agree with Darren.
A normal HID would give you a S***T pattern and would probably dazzle people left right and centre where is a projector kit like the one I fitted can give a nice distinctive straight "cutoff" of the light.
Again, as Darren said, you'll have to get only one projector as your headlight housing can only fit one by default, look on ebay for people selling single units for specific bikes.
The how to make it work part is not too hard but it's a lot of work if you want to keep all the wires tidy and tucked away somewhere not to be seen. It would be very simple +ve to +ve and -ve to -ve work.
The hardest part will be putting your headlight housing in the oven to melt the glue so you can remove the plastic lens from the fairing, in order to fit the H4 projector bulb, and bring the wiring around the other way.

HID projector with angel eyes is what I had fitted to my bike (have a look in the thread for pictures)
By projector, it means the big glass lens and it's plastic housing that literally act as a 'projector' to concentrate the light and project it in 1 direction at a certain angle.
HID projector is the same thing, but without the 'halo' ring.
Normal HID is a 'non projector' standard bulb. Same as the stock H4 bulb on point or curvy (and most other stock bikes and older cars)
normal HID is just like a normal bulb but instead of being a filament inside the bulb its more like a fluorescent light in that the bulb needs to be ignited to produce a light (this is whats in your common garden street light)
a projector is just an added optical device placed in front in a casing around a bulb be it HID or filament type to control the light beam.
to fit a projector housing inside any headlight you need to separate the glass from the casing as you can't pass the projector threw the bulb opening.
to fit a normal HID is just the same as fitting a standard bulb but has extra boxes and wiring to be fitted as well.
This is what you need to buy:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorcycle-StreetFighter-Headlight-HID-HALO-Projector-/280702835404?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item415b315acc
All wiring + Ballast included ... However you'll need to buy some things separetly if you plan to switch of the main light completely while having the angel light (sidelight) still on.

Wow, i put a really long and decent reply thanking your replies and suggesting the mod could rename this thread to make it easier for upcoming HID'ers. Didnt work, Sod typing that out again.
I've looked at them Musne, just not a fan of the price or the style of the headlight...
What about this? (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-5-Motorcycle-Bi-Xenon-HID-Kit-Angel-Eye-Projector-Lens-Light-Slim-Ballast-/261021836527?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3cc61d24ef)

That looks ideal. I'd go for that if I were you

i have looked at them, its BorKa's kit on the other forums, just a hell of a lot of money for a front headlight that i dont even like the look of haha.

They look like the exact ones I fitted to my bike... even the same box. At a fraction of the price.
However, the listing says the two colours available are "ANGEL EYE(BLUE) AND DEVIL (EVIL) EYE (RED)"
Both of these are not to my taste to be honest. I fitted 'crystal white' to my bike.
But it looks like you can select which temperature colour you would like your main beam to be.

also, whats the heat like from these things?
edit, a few questions.
How does the projector sit on/around the bulb? Would i have to slot it over the HID bulb and like stick it or do i screw the projector to the back of the main lamp unit and slide the bulb into the unit like normal? If thats the case how do i guarantee a correct angle to light up where i want to see? lol
Whats the heat like from these as a whole? Will it try melt the headlamp unit?

fookin hot :D
The glass on the projector is nearly too hot to touch

When you receive your package, the bulb will be nicely fitted into your projector already, you don't need to worry about that... Although I did dismantle it to see what's it's like if I wanted to replace the bulb and it's pretty straight forward stuff. Just one little screw that releases the bulb.
Like I said in my earlier message, you have to oven your whole headlight housing after removing the stock bulbs. Then you separate the plastic lens from the black plastic so you expose the are where the reflectors are.
You then simply pop the projector onto the slot where you're H4 bulbs went and tighten them from the back. Again, very easy and everything is provided in the kit, no need for drilling, or making holes.
To make sure your light is straight, you need to switch it on and simply rotate the lens a little until you get a nice straight beam.

Sounds easy enough. Im really thankful for your help! I've been struggling to find any information like anywhere haha
When you say 'rotate to get a straight beam', how dya mean? I get the impression that you can spin the front of the glass and it changes the beam pattern or whatever?
I know i know, i'll shut up.

Remember you need to measure the inside of your headlight to make sure a projector will physically fit in there. Doesn't look that big in your pic

Yeh thats probably a good idea.
Am i pretty much foolah'd if it doesnt?

You could just completely remove the light units reflector and just mount the projector another way

You're welcome buddy, you'll find it a lot more straight forward when you get your hands on it.
Yes, the whole thing is like a big sphere/cylinder, once it's attached you can rotate it a little to get a perfect straight line (not so much a pattern, but just the angle of the line).

I like it... Any ideas on how? Just mold a big circular dome or something?

I'd incorporate it in to the headlights mounting brackets. Just a big O with two sticks on it :D

How close can the projector be to the front of the headlight unit before it'll start melting it?
And how long do I do this oven thing for to get INTO the unit?

I used a heat gun (the paint stripping black and decker type) to seperate my curvy headlight when I fitted the projector unit)
tried the oven method and it didnt work so used the heat gun but you have to be careful as the plastic will soften if you go too mad.
Leebex, you probably didn't oven yours for long enough or hot enough.
Mine was in the oven for around 10 to 15 minutes on the highest temperature settings and it came off with ease. Maybe too easy as the glue started to stretch and fly everywhere! :O
So a tip for you from my experience. When separating the the plastic housing from the plastic lens, do it a little at a time and do it gently too, don't go pulling like mad like I did.

The projector unit gets hot, but not at temperatures high enough to start melting the headlight lens.

Okay. So the actual depth of the inner headlight unit is 8cm, I need 9cm for the hid projector so it won't fit. Any ideas? Here is it mounted with standard bulbs.
Also, any ideas on what to do to wrap up the wiring loom properly and make it look tidy? Or atleast ideas of covering up the sides? I can see right through from one side to another with about an inch or two gap behind the headlight revealing all the wires.
Can't move it closer because of the massive speedo!http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/12/9e3yjasy.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/12/eteva9az.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/12/ruherehe.jpg

Wow you really have butchered the wiring there! I wrapped mine up in a push bike inner tube and electrical taped it up for the time being, shouldn't of rushed your front indicates as well and leave that gap there!

It's all just to get it on, I'll tidy it up sooner or later. Going to get some proper wire crimps and what not to do it properly.
I like the idea of a bicycle tube though!
The indicators don't fit in the original hole because the thread is slightly bigger, so I put the there just to see how it'd all look together.
Going to make a proper mount for the headlight and lower it and bring it in probably an inch both ways.
