i did my first at mallory last summer and it was brilliant, have done castle combe now aswell which seemed a much faster track but still nice and wide so i couldnt screw up to bad.
Novice group has all types in it so not to worry about how fast or slow you go, find somewhere close by so you dont have to travel to far and enjoy the day.

Snetterton is lovely too, maybe a bit far for you to do in a day, but worth the trip.
Rockingham is closer to you isn't it?
TBH any track day is great and as BBadger says the novice groups have all sorts in.
My first track day I was very nervous, the 2nd was a blast

From what I hear Castle Combe are quite good for first timers. They have a limit to the number of bikes on track and run New To Track sessions so you shouldn't have some highly experienced riders that could unsettle you on the track at the same time. They also have instructors out on track to give advise and I've found them to be very approachable. The only down side is the noise limit is strict, but I can get a SV with a Renegade can through the test so long as its been recently repacked.
Long way for you but Brands Indy is a perfect starting point. Very basic 5 right and one left turn.
Even working in the paddock at BSB I've noever been round any of the tracks on my own bike. This will be put right later this year. As it takes me twenty minutes to get to Brands this is where I'll be in April or May.

Brands is a great track, but even thou it only has 5 corners not the best first track to learn and do especially with paddocks. Castle coombe or mallory are great first time tracks

What bike?Rockingham national is good on an SV650 as it is mostly corners so the lack of power doesnt really matter.Mallory Park too.

As previously stated, Combe or Mallory are good choices. I did my first at Castle Combe and had a great day. Groups are small and the track is fairly wide, the noise limit is abit daft though.

yeah Rockingham isnt that far from me, been there before and its quite a nice track!
Did you do the Trackday on a Sv or on another bike?
I would recommend Mallory. Not too far from you. It's short and dead easy to learn. Surface is really good now, though pit garages are a bit thin on the ground. It was my fist trackday on my SV and I've been back a further six times since and always had great fun. Lots of :p per £.

Thank you! Nah it isnt that far to be honest, rode past Darley Moor yesterday and that looked a quite good track! so might have a quick luck and research about that!
Is it cheap then? if you dont mind me asking how much?

Mallory is a good first timer track and very cheap. For the start of the season you could find it as cheap as £59 for the day. Height of summer tend to peak at £100 ish.

mallory, short track so not much to remember plus has slow and fast fast corners. I did my first there, was slightly pooping myself going out in the first session but after lunch i was bumped into inters. Fantastic track, hoping to add it to the TD list this year but last i herd they're having some noise complaints problem so who knows what will happen.
Snetterton is a really good track also since its been redone, but its a lot to take in for a newbe. facilities are fantastic and there double day is one for the list also this year.
Price, like Mr Spiers says is £60 - £110 depending of time of year and avoiding weekends. I like to do Friday's. Have a look at No Limits (http://www.nolimitstrackdays.com/acatalog/Mallory300313.html) for a good example. Here is (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwb_1XM6s6Q&feature=share) some video of Mallory shot from my bike with my mates camera. Dampish track but still good fun.

I did Snetterton last year with the BMW club (don't let that put you off) as much tuition as you want, a place on the organisers couch (or B&B/camping in his 'garden' if you prefer). Lowish numbers as well.
I didn't really think it was too much to take in as there is plenty of visability of the corners and it's a wide enough track should you make a mistake:oops:

But, only done one so can't comment on other tracks.
*I have no affiliation with this club, just did it after chatting to a mate who's and instructor and doing Snetterton again this year in Aug.
