I have various things that are cluttering up my house but would happily give them away to someone who would have a use for them. However, I've seen in the past that people have given or sold for low prices only for them to then be sold on eBay for a markup - not really in the spirit of it really.
Do I say that they're available to people who have been on the site for more than a year or have conversed with me on a thread for example, hoping that they feel part of the community or just not let it bother me if someone wants to make a profit out of it?

Why don't you find your local freecycle group, that's quite a good way to shift stuff you no longer need

give them to me as i'm sure my kids would like them (oldest is at collage doing computer hardware). i can guarantee that they will not end up on ebay or being sold on.

It's the guts of a PC I put together some time ago, all but HD and RAM (I think). Decent full size case, mobo, cables, GPU - fine but all for the most modern games (I played Crysis on it with settings ramped up ok).
But no one has answered the question of how to prevent it from getting sold on! :-) Or do I ask for a donation to the site?

Bibio, would be happy to give them to your kids but I can't be arsed to ship them up to Scotland (or anywhere)!

hehehehe.. fair play :-)

how about donating it to your local community center as i'm sure most of them do courses for silver surfers/computer noobs. they might have spare parts to get a working machine together.

!

No easy way of preventing it, on 'Freecycle' when I reply to a an ad I always state I will not sell the item on Ebay or at a Boot sale.

Of you are looking to get rid, I may well be interested as I would like to upgrade my pc. Need a new mobo and that leads on to needing many new bits. Mine is ok but jot great.

Actually, I did freecycle a load of stuff when I moved house, including a TV etc. That was pretty obvious when people were just looking to cash in, tho other people phoned up and said "it will do surround sound and comes with all the speakers etc" - I was rather taken aback I must say.

Tomor, ok I'll PM you tomorrow eve with the bits I've got and you can have the bits you want. WIll need to pick them up from Wokingham tho, only down the road tho so not a big deal.

ooh what a good scheme on the face of it. Will look into this a bit more. I hate throwing away usable stuff. Cheers.

freecycle is patrolled by riff raff in old transit vans.
They take it then sell it or dump it.

Not always the case

I don't have a transit & I keep most stuff :D

I've got a PS2 & sandwich toaster which I got off Freecyle, which we still use as examples of stuff I could have sold or dumped.

With popular items, you'll get lots of emails, some down right rude, so I bin them and give stuff away to the polite requests.

But saves stuff going to the landfill, unless the people collecting it dump it, saves me the trouble of taking it to the tip :p

But I do hate the 'Wanted' ads, some are bleedy ridiculous
