So we don't get any grit along my road . So were does Mr police community officer stand with the " You can't take any of that its for the co op " .
We all pay into the council .
So its fair I feel to put a bit on our junction .

It's a council grit bin put there for use on the public highway, I'd ask for his details so you know who to sue when you conveniently slip and break something expensive.

If you were using it on your private driveway or path he might have a point.

So, you were shovelling road salt/grit from a bin into your car? Not too surprised they wanted to have a word.

As the nearest bin to me was (until this year) over 1/2 a mile away, I too used to use the car to get a couple of buckets full to spread on the hill where I live.

The local council had a policy of only putting grit bins on through roads. The little cul-de-sac where I live was never gritted and as a consequence would suffer a number of out of control cars every winter.

Taking it for legitimate use is no crime. Tell the cops if they want to know. But a nosy plastic plod can swivel

Especially when they're talking complete bollox about it being for a business.

I like your style Tim!!!

We're on a steep hill (most of Wycombe is to be fair) and there are several bins about the estate. Trouble is, the numpties at the far end think they're oh-so-clever every time it snows by organising themselves to clear the entire road network around them, gritting the whole lot. Their bin is always empty after the first snowfall. Then they come and take from the others leaving us with nothing... Would not be an issue but my end has the through road that is actually used by more than five cars a day. You can imagine some of the arguments I've seen as some of my neighbours got "possessive" about the dwindling stocks. :)

So, if I was to walk to the end of my road where the grit bin is and get a shovel and spread it on the road, is that allowed?

My road is a designated trunk road so is one of the first roads to be cleared. If there is snow or ice, it is sorted before I've even gotten out of bed! :)

I'll poke up with the few days of disruption for the peace and quiet I have hear ;)

The house is back to front so all rooms that are frequently used are to the rear, with my 100ft garden and fields behind I don't generally her anything. Even the garden is quiet as not a lot of noise makes it out back! Besides, it's only busy at rush hour so I'm usually going to work or coming home when it's noisiest! :)

I was getting the impression from this thread that only the council are allowed to touch it.

Anyone can touch it but you're only supposed to use it on public land. On the road.
