Haven't had stovies for yonks, but I do have some rather nice mealy puddings in the freezer.

corned beef stovies (fife , dundee ,perth) or 'beef' stovies (aberdeen) ?

Look, we've got a nice agreeable thread here. Don't start talking about stovies recipes FFS. Wars have been fought for less. :)

Wise words Tam. Even the simple concept of 'beef' splits opinion.... corned beef, beef steak, minced beef, stewing beef, beef with a hint 'o pig DNA, beef with a 30% sprinkling of Shergar. Choices, choices.

Chunks of mutton in stovies,a most essential ingredient. When I was a kid a chunk of mutton was used for soup stock and then cut up to make plates of stovies.Probably being a bit thrifty but things were not so quite abundant in the early 50's.
I want a mutton pie with beans in the crust now:D --sod you Lance.
The ones we get down here don't seem the same.

Oh NOW your talking! Pie, beans and chips (homemade) is the food of the gods... Always beans on the side and brown sauce on the pie, OH YEAH!!!

Must go buy pies on the way home...
