Just pulled up to mc Donald's and there was a tidy black k8 SV. She comes out and says it's a good bike but it is a girls bike. Your opinions

I get called a girl at work (apparently 'coz its bright yellow) but I don't see it as a girls bike.

I am a girl, I ride an SV. Logically, my bike is a girl's bike.
My local Bike Garage, the burly mechanic who has more tattoos than I have brain cells (I am edumacated you know!) has stated quite strongly that he is very impressed with the trusty SV and if he liked modern bikes, he would buy one. :D
This leads me to the idea that the SV is infact... a cracking good bike!

Mine is, but the gladius is too girly for me. At least the sv didn't come out in pink!
Actually, thinking of the lads i know who aren't on here and have sv's, they are all quite girly :D But it works so i don't care

I'm a girl and my SV's yellow...go figure... :p
well if the SV is a girls bike then how come most of those 'men's' bikes can keep up with me.

Let's look at the facts:
- It has a 'bikini fairing'
- One model is referred to as 'curvy'
- All the meat is in the bottom end
- It's cheap
No brainer.
I'm a girl and my SV's yellow...go figure... :p
Damn you MB!!!!

It's a beginners bike which is easy to ride, so obviously it is going to be called girly.

Yellow doesn't bother me.
Tomor, people normally shut up with that one when they're passed by one up the twisties

It's not as much of a girly bike as my GS. That has a special space in the underside of the seat that holds an emery board and a lip gloss. My Vespa T5 was the best girl's bike as it had a handbag clip.

Oh and I nearly forgot, theboatman has a yellow one but I think he likes to pretend it's a submarine ;)
(and he had hair that was far too long at one point...girlie tendencies?) #runs. fast#
Damn you MB!!!!
Hehe. In all honesty, unless a bike is pink it can hardly be referred to as a girl's bike. At the end of the day bikes are all seen as macho machines, hence the shock on people's faces when a girl owns one.
I've certainly seen a few ridden like a girl....
Ooooo errrrr, didn't quite mean it that way

To answer the question, yes it is, but see this face? Bovvered?
My old girl has given me lots of fun over the years and shes sitting in my garden unloved and under used. I must do something about that, but as im a girl, i may break a nail.

If its a girls bike I must be riding it wrong because its shot past a few mens bikes.
Or did they just want to see my cute little tooshy.
Anyway I hope mines a girl because I love riding her......

Jayne that makes the GSXR750 a girl's bike too then.

No:confused:
Quote from its many reviews
"So, let’s start with those looks: as naked roadsters go, the GSR is edgy and aggressive, and its angular lines ooze confidence."
Girls in general are not aggressive"
Its got a low sat 815 mm so you probably could reach the floor though :)
(Disclaimer, i'm not tacking the mick i'm also verticality challenged)

My feelings exactly. Ive got a few friends with R1's gixers etc who take the p**s out of the sv for being underpowered and generally being a girls bike. Now imagine the disbelief in their faces and how upset they were when they see a blue budget "girls bike" disappears into the twisty distance. It makes me chuckle every time but they allways have their excuses. :-)

Many, many years ago, I had a GS500E. We (CBR1000, 3 Blackbirds and a ZZR1100) stopped off at Aviemore, via, Braemar, and a foreign tourist walked over and said "Nice bikes" and nodded in my direction "Childs bike"!!
Anyway still have the SV, but I also have a GSX-R600. Last summer, I was parked up and there was another woman a few feet away also with a GSX-R. A another GSX-R comes in to park and it has a male rider on it. Once he took his helmet off, I nodded and said "Girls bike". I don't think he was happy!!

Hehe a few people have said the SV is a girls bike and/or "alright for learning on I suppose", there have been a few of those occasions where I've later blown their socks off riding straight round the outside of them like they weren't there or leaving them for dead in traffic.
Even funnier was the old boy telling me about how "ohhh these little engines are too highly stressed and don't last well like a proper engine" (he had a GS1000)... my response of something like "yeah it has sounded a bit rattly since 90k or so and I reckon it'll need a rebore by the time it reaches 150k" kinda shut him up :)
Light agile bikes have the advantage over big heavy ones through tight twisty bits its true .
But a good rider on an R1 would get past you on your SV.
But an R1 is a tarts bike ;)

A good rider will always be quicker on any bike.
A quick search for Blue SVs vid of his sv thrashing a gsxr1000 round silverstone demonstrates the point.

No doubt, if they know what they're doing with it.
It is all in the mind... except for the straights.
in the right hands yes an R1 would beat an sv. Its when you get people who have all the gear and think they can ride better than anyone else because theyve got a fast bike. I find it very satisfying when i wipe the smiles of those people with my supposed girls bike lol

I used to spend a lot of time surprising people on 'quicker' bikes, always got the haha you ride a girls bike...
My usual response was, Yeah I ride a girls bike, but I'm the exact opposite to you mate, I ride a girls bike like a man, what are you doing with that 'mans' bike if I'm keeping up so easily.

I'm not sure men should be allowed to ride SVs anyway. By even asking if it is a girls' bike they are questioning whether their inferior riding skills should be allowed near a bike clearly designed for the fairer sex.

Yeah who cares, all this willy waving, and oh its a little sv gets boring, its all I hear at work. Its a fun enjoyable bike to ride, and for me riding isnt all about how fast you can go or how many people can I overtake, its the grin factor I get on the way there ;)

I've had a few riders on ride outs say to be "bloody hell you can ride that!" after overtaking them and managing to make some distance on them and they're struggling to keep up.
The SV is a bloody good bike. I fancied a change and I have just bought a zx6r though, wanted to see what all the fuss was about
