1. If you plug in a battery conditioner to keep your battery healthy in the cold weather, don't forget to unplug it before moving the bike to check the oil. @Tomor, Is it possible to buy an Optimate3 wall bracket on its own? Apparently they shatter into a million pieces if they hit the ground when cold.

Do you mean the actual back of the optimate with the lugs to put screws through? Or the black plastic bracket you screw to a wall and 'hang' the optimate on?

Not just me then... Mine sits on a shelf beside the bike and thankfully fell onto the carpetted floor of my garage without breaking. Oddly enough I've always remember to disconnect it first ever since, as I'm sure you will now Mark. Not as bad as riding off with the disc lock still on (which I have yet to do).

I walk into the wire now and then. Thanks for listening.

Mines hung on a rafter above the bikes so I can't miss it.

I don't own one either, I keep my battery in the bike, the bike is kept in the driveway!:smt104

Never owned or used one! It's very rare the bike goes a month without being ridden.

We have about 5. None on my bikes as I ride them too much :)

Yes, the black bit that you screw to the charger then hang on the wall.

My old 650 had a knackered battery which didn't have enough in it to crank when really cold unless kept topped up permanently, and my scooter journeys are not long enough to keep the battery fully charged all the time. The alarm on the thou takes the edge off the battery after 3+ weeks, and given this is the first week without snow for a while I thought I'd stick it on the charger. Am I justified in having it and using it?

I had to with my SV since the alarm drained the battery flat in as little as two weeks. Had to dump a battery because of that. If I don't use the gixxer for a couple of weeks it can struggle to start. Perhaps a dodgy battery. Defo a lot cheaper to just optimate it than buy a new one though. :)

Ah well there's the rub! The alarm on the Ace don't work, she's had the same battery for four years and sometimes, due to exercises and such, she has been sat out side for weeks not being started. Bit difficult to start after that long but she does?

Of course? I though this was a thread entitled "Winter riding tips - GM stylee"?

As you are all well aware, when you all bang on about ACF50 and getting your bikes prepared for winter etc etc.......

My response has always been....."I'll put petrol in mine and see you in the morning!";)
