In black, not too glossy, not particularly in matte.
Not full face (flip-front considered though). None of this built-in-sunglasses, super-clicky gadget latches, built-in bluetooth, special vents for the part of you head you use when racing, no racing stripes or tribal patterns. Just a helmet which is a comfortable, easy on-and-off for the 5 minute blips to tesco or University.
But the biggest, baddest criteria is that it is a GOOD FITTING helmet. I've been to George White's dozens of time, tried on the few helmets which fit the other criteria, and they sit on the top of my head like a mushroom; I can open my mouth and lick the bottom of the chin-guard, and the helmet is so thick everywhere else I feel like I could go zorbing upside-down. I don't want the top of the helmet to be 5 inches above the top of my own head (lol).
Example of wrong :( :

(Look how happy they are because of their good-fitting helmets!)

American helmets tend to do it better because of less-stringent safety laws. I think the Bell Custom 500 is class. The Roof Boxer seems good- is it?

No recommendations from me mate. Any EU rated open facer I've tried is massive. As you have already discovered an non legal helmet is the way to go if you want the right look.
The Davida Speedster in your pic looks good but isn't road legal. I'd say if you go down that route, look for something with the US DOT or SNELL rating. They will offer some level of protection even if they're not legal. The Daytona Cruiser or Bell spring to mind but they are pretty bare inside.
I wear an open facer all summer and just let reason rule over ego, so protection over looks. I have a Vcan open facer. It's a bit mushroom but fits ok. Incidentally your top pic doesn't look that bad.

Yeah, it's difficult to search "bad fitting helmet"! Do you have a pic of your Vcan on your head? I have thought about getting a Bell Custom 500, but I'm not sure if it's worth breaking the law for more comfort..

Nice thruxton! How do you like it?
Won't ever wear an open face lid again for 4 reasons:
Twice a full face lid has saved my life.
Two of me mates died wearing open face helmets that probably would have walked away had they had a full face lid on.
Looks good with that style bike but looks aren't everything.

Don't be a f***ing tart, what are you some sort of dog-bummer with tassels and stuff?
This is not 1946. Decent helmets exist. They are quiet, they are warm, they keep your face attached to your head when it all goes "proper f*cking Pete".
For my money with that criteria of not being a full-face... shoei multitec.

Take a chillaxative yorkie.
And for everyone: I already own a full-face Shark RSR2 Carbon, and I haven't said I necessarily want an open-face. Just like I exampled with the Shark Evoline pictured above, safe helmets often look bloody stupid. I want this to serve as a guide for plain helmets which do the job, and don't look like

I like my boxer. You do have to flip the front up to get it on and off though and it's still breezy with the lid down.
Good if you like open face but with more safety though.
There's a stockist in Guildford.

Shoei multitec looks like a good shout. Any pictured of it being worn?
I thought this was a good idea, protects the chin but with the feel of an open-face. Pity it's bulbous and has built-in doucheglasses:

Anybody got any opinions on the Roof Boxer?:

It took me 3 years to find a helmet like that at a reasonable price. In the end I had to go for silver and not black.
All I wanted was a plain simple helmet. I don't need a visor I have glasses and sun glasses. I don't want something for my bluetooth as I'm riding a bike I'm not a BMW driving sales rep who thinks he has friends. And I particularly don't want a helmet with so many colors and patterns it looks like the Dulux dog had shot his load over it. Why do helmet manufacturers find a simple helmet so difficult? I now ride wearing a Silver Shoei XR-1100.
And on that subject I've been searching for some boots for 4 years that don't look like I shop lifted them from JJB while I could sneak out from my ASBO tag.
Anyway back to your helmet search the only thing I would add is please do not ride in an open face lid. I can't believe they are still legal. The only reason I have a chin is because I ride in full face lids.
As for the size, the reason flip fronts look bigger is because they are. They need to cram all the hinges and locks somewhere.
Glad I didn't have an open face helmet!

I personally couldn't give a toss what my helmet looks like as long as it keeps my face beautiful

Thanks for the pic of the Boxer. Is it comfy, and do you have a pic of it open?

I laughed a lot! I know that's why flip fronts are bigger, but some brands hide it well, for example, through not having sun visors and such (e.g. not the Shark Evoline)
Alas, I knew people would start lecturing me why open-face is bad; that's not what I've asked for. Thanks to those who have made helpful, informative comments!

I don't at the moment no.
Thing with helmets is what is comfortable for me may not be for you, different head shapes. The best thing to do is email the company to ask for their local stockist and go try one on. That's what I did.
Place I went to was Grand Prix legends (motolegends) in Guildford which isn't too far from you.
You can't go wrong with this

I borrowed one and it was noisy and draughty. Also I don't think the chin piece would stand a proper crash. Then again this was an older one hopefully they have improved the design since.

I have a Shoei Qwest and it is ace. Very quiet, lots of vents for when it gets a bit warm, and looks pretty neat. I tried lots of different helmets before I settled on this which was within budget and was comfy for the shape of my head.
Sorry, couldn't find a bigger picture....

Only worth the £400+ notes if it came with a working version of this.
