Yes I had a few panels resprayed in the bluebut in certain light it you can tell, but always fancied a white bike, but worst case being it looks rubbish i'll peel it off, I'm pretty happy with the end result of the cowl only took about half hour but I'm going to have a pop at the tank next I think.. just can't decide if to do it with it on the bike or take it off?? The vids on YouTube show both but we'll have to see!! Thanks for the response!!!

I too will be watching this thread closely... I've got a few panels on my pointy in need of some work so am thinking of wrapping them in as close a match as i can get to the original colour!

It's what my brother had left from a car wrap he had done on his car i'll find out the make and let you know?? Apparently it's a better quality stuff than some but couldn't say?? But it seems to go on and stick well enough and also shrinks back really well with the heat gun!

Hello all, don't mean to thread hijack but I actually do wrapping professionally.

If you want anything doing, I can quote you up.

Ant, good luck with the tank, the angles on it will limit you, you'll need to create seams at various points (which won't look too obvious in white) to get a good wrap done, or you'll have excess vinyl that won't go anywhere.

Unless you're an absolute dab hand with a scalpel, I'd highly recommend buying some vinyl cutting tape from someone like Spandex.

On the topic of vinyl, if this stuff is any good, it'll be either 3M, Hexis or Avery. Avery is the creme de la creme, nothing touches it's air free technology. Fact.

Just be careful not to cut into the paint as it'll a. show if you take the wrap off and b. show if you wrap over it...as the wrap is analogous to the surface.

Here's a pic of my old YZFr125 that I did...I ended up giving up on the tank as it was far too angular and time consuming.

Weybridge, Heathrow, Deptford...depends what time of day really haha! If it's parts you need doing, I'm happy to have them sent to me. I just ask you cover the cost of vinyl and I usually charge about £15 an hour labour, any mistakes I make don't get added into that.

Good vinyl can take an absolute battering, as long as it's wrapped correctly and pinned down properly..you'd have a hard time scuffing it. And the beauty of it is, if you do...you can replace it in a very short amount of time at little cost, unlike paint!

More pics, I've not done the tank yet I decided to do the smaller fiddly bits so heres my progress so far, I've nearly done the undertray but just waiting on some cutting tape think I've got away with just 1 seem on this one and it will be in a not to obvious place so should look ok, I'm hopefully doing the rear seat unit panels tomorrow then i'll put the rear back together and post some more pics but in general up to now i'm really happy with the results,Thanks for the interest more pics soon cheers!:D

TBF it's only relevant if you want longevity, you can wrap perfectly with super cheap ****. It just takes one million times longer and causes you to burst three hundred more blood vessells. The amount of time it'll stay put and so on is also determined by quality, as I've previously mentioned...it simply doesn't matter what anyone says, Avery is by a clear katrillion miles the most superior product out there, it's amazing. Comes at serious cost though.

I would disagree with some of the claims above. But everyone has their own opinion and there is no right or wrong if installed correctly. Also every product has its place and determines on many matters. i.e. customer needs and budget.

If a wrap is for a weekend advertisement at a promotion event, then you would use completely different material compared to someone who wants their own person vehicle wrapped, majority of the time, Also a track/race bike enthusiast doesn't want to pay out for something that could possibly get damaged the next weekend on the track and will then need to be replaced. But once again comes down to budget and needs.

Well neither here or there. Just trying to say don't skimp on wrap vinyl as you will be doing the job twice. Oh actually maybe three times, or probably more like four times...

DarrenSV650S
09-02-13, 11:41 PM
But it is limited to four times, right?

650
10-02-13, 12:07 AM
While the vinyl plays a part, someone who's decent at wrapping could wrap with the ****test stuff and still make it look good. More expensive wrap just makes the job easier...and arguably lasts longer.

And yes, any more than four times and Candyman comes to getcha.

Yes because after this you give up, sit on the floor, cry and flail your arms around like a stroppy 3 year old!

Buy air free stuff from 3m or Avery, otherwise you'll be ripping it off over and over.

And no, it's not easy...at all. It's really complex sometimes and every job is a hair pulling experiment in heart attack inducing stress. Literally.

Haha totally agree, even the small flat parts that look easy enough pose a challenge but all I can say is slowly but surely is working for me at the min, I've made a couple of boo boo's up to now but luckily they are where you can't see so got away with it!

Don't be afraid to use a bit of Pritt Stick on areas that're particularly difficult to get the vinyl to adhere to, it'll all come off with cheap-as-chips glue and tar remover ;)

Yes loads! I watched a load of vids on YouTube that were really helpfull and you definitely learn by your mistakes. my only drawback is time, I'd prefer to do the lot soon as but everything else gets in the way so a bit more here and there is all I can manage at the mo but I'm sure it'll be done by Xmas haha!!!;)

have you got round to doing the Lower fairing yet, just wondering as I am going todo mine in the next few weeks.

650
21-03-13, 01:24 PM
Lower's on a pointy will be very easy (relatively speaking) in comparison to the other parts of the bike. Just remember to keep the vinyl taught (imagine pulling gently on someones sleeve for reference) and flat out the vinyl from the center outwards

punkyp
21-03-13, 02:07 PM
would this work on the lower forks?

650
21-03-13, 04:30 PM
I'll say no as they're overly exposed and cylindrical. You could certainly try it. One of the main issues will be the bonding as the adhesive used on vinyl reacts to heat to bond and in turn reacts with the surface (different surfaces have different 'energy' ratings). Not many people know you should heat vinyl to 86-90 degrees C once applied. It's such a delicate process though, overheat and the vinyl bubbles, you need a laser heat reader really.

Antrats73

Being honest I've not done any more than in my earlier posts due to no free time so I couldn't say but the rears I did have held up well with no bubbles ect so hopefully my lowers will be similar!!😃

650
21-03-13, 07:09 PM
It'd be very odd for bubbles to appear on properly applied, good quality vinyl. Even if it did, you can either thumb it out due to the air channel technology in 3m's vinyl or just pin ***** it with a very sharp pin and then thumb it down, best to do the popping at an angle so it doesn't split too much.

Ive got some samples off ebay to see which colour I fancy, probably a matt orange, and Ive got some spare panels to practice on but have seen a mates attempt at work and his didn't go too well.

I`ll start with the seat joining panel first, but other than that none look like their going to be easy to do.
