Nice vid. I'm presuming that's been transsquoglified by Youtube because it doesn't look like the HD I've seen from them before. Maybe its the low light conditions too?

Cheers for the feedback carl, yeah this is the thing I'm steadily learning with GoPro - in direct natural sunlight they produce fantastic footage, but in overcast or even interior light (in my kitchen when it's dark outside) the footage looks slightly washed out (at best) or grainy (at worst).

Probably the reason why all their promotional stuff is shot on snow covered peaks (natural sunlight + snow bouncing it back up onto brightly coloured clothing/iridescent goggles = yes please) or submerged in lovely crashing waves of crystal clear sea water (where the light is slowed down by around 33%). On a typical grey day in Britain with soggy mud and slushy ice the footage comes out looking crisp but the colours suffer - on my video I've turned up the colour saturation to around 130% and the contrast to 25-30% on most of the clips and it still looks a tiny bit underwhelming compared to the GoPro promotional stuff (and you've still commented on it).

From wikipedia "The Black Edition introduced a new sensor type claimed by its manufacturer to have "2x the light sensitivity" = makes sense of the issues re: graininess and colour reproduction in low light.

I'm still happy though :) bring on summer and lots more camping/mtb/nurburgring adventures to come this year.

Proper mad riding in the snow, just my kind of stuff

Although TC is a proper nut job for riding in shorts :p

lol we did start out both wearing leg warmers which both got soaked within about 5 minutes, TC decided his were sapping heat from his legs, whereas I just carried on as taking mine off would have meant taking my shoes off which were filled with about 500ml of water each - thought it best to just carry on :)

Dalby is in bits at the minute, loads of big potholes killing all your speed on sections where you should be flying. Fingers crossed for a bit of maintenance in the spring

Nice, so you go to dalby a lot? Our latest red run workplace leaderboard is topped by myself at 1h59m57s!! from visitor centre.
That was well over a year ago tho so all my pasties and more motorbike riding than pushbike has taken a massive toll!!

LOL!

Yes, not pleasant wearing wet leg warmers, although I think they should keep your legs warmer once the water reaches the same temp as your body, but seeing as it was only 2 deg, it wasn't going to do that :p

You can get waterproof leg warmers, which do work well, although I don't think the waterproof coating lasts very long. But I had to buy a pair in France last year, as the weather turned, and my legs were bone dry, in a torrential downpour.

Unfortunately everything else below my waist was soaking wet :p

But my answer to riding in the wet would be :-

a) Get some waterproof bib tights and wear some long Sealskinz socks underneath these. This way it won't matter if my shoes fill with water, my feet are still dry.
b) Sit in the garage on the turbo trainer.
c) don't go out at all & watch the TV :smt041 :smt020

FACK ME 2 hours?! That's RAPID. And there I was properly pleased with myself for doing it in 3 hours 30 last august! Jesus man that's mental. Well done dude! There's a few of us on here who go mountain biking together - have a look in the MTB thread :)

yeah TC mentioned the seal skin socks, better leg warmers and also just going to the pub instead next time lol. After mile 4 I couldn't feel anything below my ankles for ice cold pain, and then after mile 5 the pain stopped altogether. Took a good 30 mins in the car for the feeling to be fully reinstated. All good fun though :) on thing I did like was the sweat being wicked away by the base layer on my arms, it turned to forst on the outside! Looked cool as feck, literally.

Thanks, may I hasten to add that I did that in perfect conditions on a June morning setting off from the VC at 7am to avoid traffic!!

It wud be more like 3 hours now, its hard to keep up with the fitness.
Anyway top marks for getting out in the snow, its not pleasant! I fell off the bridge a 3rd of the way round in the icy conditions! No sympathy from my riding buddies tho, just stood around laughing taking pictures!!

Bleedy hell that's cold

Don't mind any weather so long as I'm warm, and relatively dry.

But no shoe covers are waterproof, no matter what they say, and impractical on MTB rides, so Sealskinz are the only answer.

Sportful & Castelli make water resistant leg & armwarmers, I wouldn't say waterproof, but my Sportful ones I could see the water beading on the surface and my legs were dry & warm
