I guess in our line of enjoyment they may be the odd need to call the emergency services, I hope this is never the case for you but if so this could help:

AFAIK most of those things are also true for 999, I.e. the emergency override etc.
Not sure I feel happy sending a 'register' text on the say so of a you tube video. Why wouldn't you just be able to text anyway if necessary without registering... Will they simply ignore unregistered numbers?
Personally i would also use 112, was told that using that automatically set off a position trace whereas 999 didn't.... Might be BS though.

Gotta be BS, why would they implement it on one but not the other?
EDIT: basically the only benefit is 112's internationality.

Caller location works on 999 but with mobiles it only locates the phone mast that transmits the call.I think to get a triangle fix on a mobile requires special input and specific requests to the phone providers.Maybe smart phones with GPS can transmit your location to the emergency services these days,or maybe that is the service you activate by registering.
