Just pulling your leg fella. Envy is what it is. If I had the money (don't we all say that?) I would have the new 675R today!

Its interesting, I'd personally like to know from someone who's had both what the differences are like. Not just in the ride and the speed but the all round ownership experience of having a Daytona in comparison to the SV.

Ownership experience.. people looked at you more in the street.. it personally got me women but i was 24 when i got it and thats how my brain worked at the time, guess i was very arrogant with it.. after 3 VERY stupid crashes 2 of which were completely my fault my 675 is now Track Only..

The Triumph to me is the one bike i ALWAYS wanted it oozed confidence and instilled it into you, very stable even cranked right over at high speeds, you pointed it went.. the SV never had that, any suspension over the SV is a milestone, when i buy my next SV as a second track bike it will have the GSXR front end and new rear shock.. you cant truely appreciate when the SV lacks until you have ridden something a step up.

The SV is more comfortable to ride and is more Iconic IMO than the 675.. i used to really turn heads with my high mounted Carbon Can.. was SO loud.. i guess thats why the SV is a very special bike.. its the Best on the market Imo to prepare you for sports bike riding. you rag the **** out of it and get results.. its easy to mod.. or you can just chill and potter about..

To me at the time.. [in the words of charlie sheen] the 675 had one speed.. one gear.. GO!! there was no chilling out on the 675.. in my hands it had to be thrashed.. it had to be screaming.. and it was like a drug.. thats why i havent road ridden in over 2 years.. i was stupid and had a very bad off

lol, maybe my account ist the best for your question, but its an honest one

this is my SV after its last crash -

Lol, nah I understand those sentiments. I imagine there's a time in most bikers experience where you want to get that step up in performance and then its a case of what can you afford and how crazy do you get with it whilst the fun lasts. For sure I would love to be at the track every week, but time and cost says 'No'! :) At least you still get the chance to ride that 675. Thanks for the review :)

One point to note is the SV isn't "bad" it's just budget.
Yep it can be improved on or there are just better bikes out there but the SV is what it is, can't knock it for being one of the most cost effective big bikes.

Then maybe I can add my opinions (I own a K7 SV and a 675 (unfortunately not the new R tho :( )).

I thoroughly enjoy my SV but adore my 675. I think it is a great step up from the SV if you're after a sports bike. (But then again, that could be said about most modern sports bikes).

In terms of ownership experience, I've had her just over a year now and never wished I bought anything different. The ear to ear grin I get every time I ride her is intoxicating, no matter what speed you're doing. They are blisteringly fast when the mood takes you, but I find i can ride it at any speed I desire or the conditions allow.

For me, it is comfortable enough for long days in the saddle doing a mix of twisty fun and also motorway slogs (once a bigger screen is fitted).

I would happily ride the Daytona every day if the chance presented itself, there is a guy on another forum I am on that has passed 100,000 miles on his 2006 model with no more than basic servicing. Granted that is achievable on most modern bikes with no issue, but I've also had no reliability issues with mine.

Obviously there are also all the childish features that make it obnoxiously addictive to ride, like the exhaust note (I could listen to that through headphones all day long), the speed, the brakes, the feel of speed and adrenaline rush as you open the throttle etc etc.

I completely agree, it is so confidence inspiring to ride in all lean angles. Even in the wet on its OE Tyres (supercorsa SP) I've had no real issues or worries about riding her and keeping up with anyone else I happen to be out with.

Damn! I was hoping someone would trash the 675 and say its overrated, cause I'm already halfway there in my head to getting one! Instead, your great review has caused further sadness at the realisation that this dream will have to wait a little longer.

Thanks for the real world view, much appreciated. I would be doing a lot of normal miles and even a bit of touring if I was ever going to get one (I'm stupid like that) so its good to know its a capable bike not just for sport riding.

Mr Metalhead19. I remember how confident you looked on the 675 as I rode around you and two other bikes together going round Gerrards at Mallory on my SV :p
