so basically i work in a business centre full of different offices with about 100 car spaces but no bike parking at all, so this morning i decided to park the bike outside my office window in a car space and this woman has just written a letter and put it on my bike saying how selfish i am for taking a space? obviously i told her where to go in a polite manner and to not touch my bike again, did i do the right thing or should i move it?

The last site I worked at 3 of us all with assigned management spaces were also bikers. When the sun shone, you would find 3 bikes in "management" spaces. No issue. Nobody had any parking rights in them if we were away on business etc.

no one here has parking rights, if you snooze you lose

Ask her where else you're supposed to put it?!

Spank86

It's a space big enough to fit a car.

Unless marked otherwise thats it. You parked your transport for one person in it and she parks her transport for (presumably) one person in another. Leaver her a snippy little note saying she's selfish to be driving around with 4 spare spaces in the car and wasting petrol and then torch her business and sit laughing in the ashes.

i did and she said for me to put it up on the path but when i did that before the owners of the centre told me to move it

spank i think that is possibly the best answer anyone could have given haha

Clearly motorcycles are a lower form of transport and don't have the same rights as the far superior car has!

Prejudice plain and simple.

Point her to the highway code and that driving motorised vehicles on the pavement is contrary to it and suggest she parks her car on the path instead.

You're in the right, but the considerate thing to do is park it somewhere else where cars cannot park. However if you've been bollocked for doing that, then you've exhausted that option, so using a car space is the only option left. If you told her that you've parked it elsewhere but been bollocked for it, hopefully she'll be reasonable and accept it. If she doesn't accept that, do as Spank suggested.

Spank = Poster Perfecto!

You did the right thing IMO, she's no right to insist you park elsewhere when there is no provision for you to do so.
If you have another option then certainly I would advocate a bit of courtesy and that you park where perhaps a car cannot, but if that's not an option then jog on... or get here earlier missy.
For example I park in a little nook under the building that no car could ever fit into. IMO it would be selfish of me to occupy a car space thus forcing someone else to park on the street or worse still in the pay and display bays at the front of the building. However I'm not obliged to do so I do it because I'd be a moody if the rolls were reversed and I couldn't park because a bike had taken a space.

i did tell her and she said that im talking s*it
she is known to be a peice of work throughout the offices

well if she whinges again refer her to the owners of the facility. If it's private land then they set the rules, you guys just follow them. If they wish you to park in a car space then theres no arguing.

I dont suppose there are any other bikers you could arrange to space share with are there?

granty92
13-02-13, 10:26 AM
there is one who i share a space with everyday but she isnt in today so thats why the woman is kicking off i expect

Spank86
13-02-13, 10:31 AM
so every day you make an effort to space share with two workers taking up one space while this woman drives her one person in with a car and takes up one space per worker.

Perhaps you should explain that it's how many people use the space not how much volume of metal that determines selfishness.

If she whinges again I'd give her a little speech. Two words even. The second one is "off".

I've just had the owner of the building on the phone as she has called them and they said i am in the right so they will tell her to stop now :)

Ahhh well, it sounds like she's a proper numpty. Best just to ignore her, and if possible, use a psyionic attack to telekinetically tie her tubes to prevent breeding.

It would you have a conscience and clearly she does not, she's the selfish one.

...........of course you must not rub it in next time you see her;)

the only thing i do when parking in a car space is leave enough room for another bike or two to get in there as well

just ignore her and she'll go away

Can you see the bike while it's parked quite justifiably in its own space? The only thing that may concern me is some sort of spiteful damage perpetrated by this woman. Having right on your side (and the owners telling her to pack it in) may not stop some sort of revenge - she already sounds unreasonable, selfish and slighty stupid to take it that far.

The right thing to do now then is to bill her for the cleaning of your bike to remove any gunk left from her note that she put on your bike.
if she used selotape advise her to pay for a respray of all the pannels as well as the tape glue will have damaged your paint now ;)

granty92
13-02-13, 12:53 PM
its right infront of my office door which is glass and yes i may write a note and ask her to clean the selotape glue off my screen

Owenski
13-02-13, 02:31 PM
Assuming you know which car is hers, write her a note everyday. Not a nasty one, just one saying "Enjoy your day" or words to that effect. Do this for long enough and she'll blow her top, fuddy duddies always do.

You could start tomorrow with a card... she'll assume its a valentine but be sure when she opens it its actually just a flyer for slimming world or similar. OH MY WORD, I'd have to see that!.. do it and film it!

A polite notice to say how selfish she is every time she is not bang in the middle of a space would not go amiss. Even get pious about leaving no room for the elderly and less able by parking 1mm too close :)

You have to say to her today, oh, had a call, all OK then, and a big smile and thumbs up ha ha

Have to say, this is likely to really wind her up.

Be super nice to her (short of not parking your bike in the space). "I'm glad we managed to sort that out." "Thanks for contacting the services manager, and confirm I am parking in the right place. I really do not want to put anybody out if there is somewhere else I should be parking my bike"

Perhaps leave her a note with a flyer for a bike school, saying you'd be happy to share the space with her Motorbike or scooter.

As the management want you to park in bays, it would be useful if it was in their guidance to tenants that all vehicles must be parked in bays. Even better if they sign post it.

Interesting thread, I park my bike in car spaces all the time, right in the middle of them on the centre stand, can't see what the problem is if a bike or a car or a chelsea tractor is in the space, it's still taken. Some people are just joyless *******s.

i don't disagree with this point at all or the OP's when there's nowhere else to park. however if there's somewhere to put my bike where it's not going to cause anyone a problem then i'll put it there (plus this is quite often nearer the entrance). if this isn't a possibilty though then a "car" parking space is fair game as far i'm concerned!

Jackie_Black

Obviously a bike space is a better prospect but failing that a normal space is fine, they aren't just for parking cars in. Simply vehicles. I think this person is another example of one of those truly hopeless *******s with nowt else going on in their lives. I mean who could be arsed to even write a note ffs. I'm so pleased for the OP and their smug outcome, a victory for common sense no less!

the perspective on this thread would be different if this were a car forum

just as it would be different from that on a truck forum if this were a complaint about truck drivers

im guessing the perspective will be somewhat different at the OP's place of work as well, assuming they are mostly car drivers

unfortunately many groups of people think the world exists to suit them

Jackie_Black
13-02-13, 07:10 PM
Agreed, but the OP has to park somewhere. May as well be in a parking space if the management don't like parking on the path etc.

I've had similar issue at my work place. When the new building was built. We were all asked to fill out a questionnaire on how we travelled to work. The results were collated and somebody decided that those of us who used a motorbike to get to work, were not to get dedicated parking.

I complained to HR and Facilities about it and extoled the virtues of motorcycling i.e. reduced traffic on the roads around work etc etc and was promised we would be provided with a motorcycle parking bay. I even was invited to discuss the plans with the head of facilities which I duly did.

We've been in the building over 6 years and still not been provided dedicated motorcycle parking that I was promised. In a small and silent protest I started parking in the car bays. I left enough room so that we got 4 bikes into one parking bay and it inconvenienced no-one. Until one day one of the directors couldn't find anywhere to park.

A snotty email was sent out from security asking those of us with motorcycles not park in "Car spaces" which I replied to saying that I would park in a space until such time I was provided with the dedicated motorcycle bays I was promised and then pointed out that all I was doing was using the space that I'd normally park my car in and I've not heard any more about it since. I got many messages of support from my car driving colleagues who appreciated the fact that I didnt want to leave my GSXR on the patio amongst the picnic tables or in the same area where people leave their pushbikes, or in the disabled bays either.

As soon as I mentioned the word "Discimination" i.e. I was being discriminated against due to my chosen form of transport funniliy enough the facilities manager start back peddling at a furious rate of knots...

We've now reached a compromise in that I park in one of the disabled bays ( which are never used anyway ) and that if asked to move it to allow a disabled person to park I would do so straight away.

One person drives one car and uses one space.

One person rides one motorbike and uses one space.

Is there really a difference?

And 4 bikes in one space is SAVING room over four people in four cars!
