how sad :(
Incredibly sad. Feel very bad for the family of the woman as well as they could never have forseen something as tragic as this. Bad times for all involved.

shocking.. having lived in SA, one line in that report is very true - "you live in fear of your life in SA" and I can only imagine that he doesn't go to sleep with his prosthetics on, so would have been even more fearful of being attacked, knowing he has no way of escaping quickly.. this has probably only made the headlines because of who it is, but I'd hazard a guess this happens more often than we get to hear/read.

i too lived in SA with my grandparents for 3 years and there are countless murders and shootings, we had a man on the run from the police run through our garden at one point

Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons I don't think he would have been charged with murder if it was a genuine accident.
If you read some reports the police are saying the was a domestic related dispute at the property but it doesn't say weather it was immediately prior to the 'accident' or last week.
I am in the camp of people that believe it was just a tragic accident and she was trying to surprise him.

Sounds incredibly fishy to me. Rows? Shot 4 times? Sneaking in in the dead of night on valentines day? Could be a tragic accident, or could be a poor cover for a domestic gone wrong.

He was probably legless at the time of the incident. Too soon?

Looks like the poor fella's had it - stacks of evidence and not a leg to stand on....
(I'm sorry. No, I really am. I'll get my coat.)

If you know that your boyfriend sleeps with a gun by the bed as he is worried about intruders, do you really think it a sensible idea to sneak up on him at 4am?
The police are now saying there were several previous domestic incidents. And if it was obviously a tragic accident would they not class it as manslaughter? I know these accidents do happen. Rudi Visagie, the former Springbok, shot and killed his daughter in their drive thinking she was a car thief, but that was very obviously an accident and he handed himself over to the police.

I can't think of a more hellish place to end up.
A White guy, superstar with no legs in a South African jail.
This guy is better off dead.
We have no idea either way. He could be an evil murdering psycho or maybe truly a tragic accident.
Time will tell, or maybe not.

Roses are red
Violets are glorious
Try not to surprise
Oscar Pistorius
Seriously though, anything about him being scared of a burglar or her surprising him seems a bit odd considering he's been charged with murder.

Could be a conspiracy to keep non-able bodied athletes from competing in the Olympics?

My cousin was asking why everyone is more interested in what's happening to old Oscar and the trial info coming out than the dead girl. I couldn't help but think this song says it all. I'm sure not everyone has this view of society, but just thought it was really appropriate to explain it.

Sadly I think its because he is seen as such an icon for disabled people and South Africa. I feel massively for the family of Reeva she was a beautiful girl and can't imagine the whole it has left in their lives with her being taken so suddenly the way she was.
On the flip side I personally feel based on the evidence heard so far that it was a tragic accident, but, I do feel he did mean to kill whoever was in there even if he didn't know it was Reeva.

What evidence have you heard? I've not really caught much of it, but I thought I heard she was in bed with him, then he woke up in the night, heard someone in the bathroom and went and blasted them through the door. Surely if you're in bed with your Mrs and you wake up and she's not there and you hear something in the bathroom, your first logical thought should be it's your Mrs in the bathroom?

I have been keeping up to date with it via the live feeds on news sites. The police/state case is weak and they made many mistakes and made a lot of assumptions. Like no overshoes on the scene, they failed to find one of the bullet casing which was then found later by a lawyer, they assumed a box in the bedroom was an illegal substance without testing it but turns out it was herbal medicine and they didn't check phone records to corroborate Oscar's story that he did call for help. I can see how if your vulnerable with no legs you would just dart out of bed and assume. Its easy for us able bodied to speculate.

So he got bail, I am pleased he did.......

Wow. Bail on a murder charge. That shows how weak the case is.

I listened to the whole thing, apparently it is because the prosecution failed to prove he was a flight risk, failed to prove he was a risk to the public and the fact he is an SA resident with nearly $10million worth of assets there.
Also is it me or does the judge look like Theo Paphitis?

Ive got no idea if he is guilty of murder or not,but I reckon he will get off largely because of who he is and how much lawyer he can afford.
The local plod wont do the prosecution any favours either, but that will be because of incompetance rather than money talking. Its a bad start when the man heading the case gets taken off because he is suspected of doing a bit of killing of his own.:D

the story on its own sounds abit far fetched but the number of mistakes (if you belive what you are told) then its just unreal !!!
IMO he did it but is going to get off due to connections money etc

A bit of a chinese whispers scenario this, as I've not read the details first hand, but here's how I understand it.
1. He's asleep in bed with his girlfriend.
2. He gets up, sticks on his legs and goes to the balcony to get some air in the night (bit weird, but there you go).
3. Then he comes back in and hears a noise in the bathroom. The bathroom is only accessible from his bedroom as it's an ensuite with no external windows.
4. Rather than look at his girlfriend in bed or wake her, or anything, he grabs a gun, walks into his ensuite, goes up to the closed door to the bog (there's nothing else in there ... just a crapper) and fires for shots through the door.
If that is accurate (and I'm not sure on that at all), how is that not murder? Did he think a criminal had broken in, snuck through his bedroom into the ensuite and gone for a little tinkle before the robbery because he needed to freshen up?
The facts say murder to me, as does the body language in the court videos, but I agree his highly paid lawyers are going to get him off.

See it did have an external window, as it happens the only one without bars on it. And he had contractors in who had left ladders so every possibility some one could have climbed in.

It will be like OJ Simpson all over again but South Africa style.
Only two people know what happened, and one of them got killed by the other one.

If he shot her thinking she was an intruder he will feel guilty forever. But that doesn't take away from the fact he was willing to shoot someone repeatedly through a door expecting to kill them. It could have been a neighbour's kid mucking about if ladders had been left up. He didn't know who it was and gave them no chance to say. And why go to your balcony in the dark if you are that afraid for your safety?

Whatever he meant to do its pretty good shooting to fire 4 shots through a closed door from below (apparently without legs on) and hit a person who you couldn't see (because you didn't know who it was) with three of the bullets.

Not really. When you know it's a woman sitting down having a wee, it should be fairly easy to work out where she is.
