View Full Version : Have my Insurers invalidated my Insurance during repairs?

So I posted on here 18th December when I was rear-ended by a car at a set of lights and FINALLY 60 days later I have my SV back.

During the repairs, unable to get original parts in a reasonable time frame (and perhaps with a little bit of sweet talking from myself) my stock exhaust was replaced... by the nominated repairers ... with a Yoshimura TRS.

So... The work was conducted by the insurers, the parts were approved by the insurers.

Has my bike now been 'modified'?
Do I need to declare to my insurance that their own approved repairs constitute modification?

Should I declare it in the future if I change insurers?

Does anyone really give a stuff about a can?

Anyone have any thoughts?

My insurance company said when it comes to exhausts they like to know but only pay out value of standard system. Same with any mods I do.

You could argue it's a road legal replacement for the stock which doesn't increase power output.

In future declaring an exhaust change is probably not a bad idea with the above wording.

As for you current one, nah be right. The circumstances where it might give you a problem are remotely possible and you'd have the argument that they implicitly knew about it.

Nice of them since that's a couple of hundred quid on top of what a decent aftermarket costs ;)

"Replacement for the stock which doesn't increase power output"
This is what you need to be sure .
Increase in performance can lead to increasse in priemium's.
I'm on max 30% incresse in performance. (Map2 Remap for cans filter).
