Getting the back wheel off the ground?

Hi guys! Bit of advice really, I've not currently got around to getting a paddock stand yet and not really sure where I'm going to store it when I do get one, but wondered if anyone's got any other techniques of getting the rear wheel off the ground enough to spin it. I'm wanting to clean and lube up the chain.

I've got a trolley jack if that's any use in any way? My other thoughts were tipping it on the side stand and getting a willing accomplice to turn the wheel round while I take the weight.

Short term fix----The chain doesnt need cleaning,it needs oiling which can be done without lifting the back at all.
Longer term-----You will need to lift the back sooner or later for other things so look at getting a paddock stand(very cheap0or an abba stand(dear but worth it)

Bike on sidestand, jack under rhs of swingarm? Not sure if it would work but worth a shot?

Do you have axle stands? If so, lean bike over on side stand, where the exhaust hanger bracket is behind the RH foot peg, put the axle stand at a touch of an angle and adjust the height so the bike is just about off the ground.

I fitted a 2" x 8mm Allen head bolt with a 1" plastic spacer on the RH side where the bobbin would bolt on.
Cut down a piece of (approx) 2.5"x1.5" wood to 1" taller than where the Allen bolt protrudes.
Cut a v in the top of the wood. Trim wood length to suit
With bike on side stand, Put v under the Allen bolt at an angle.
Raise RH side of bike with rear footpeg while tapping wood to vertical.

Rear wheel now 1/2" off the ground for chain cleaning/oiling.

Will be treating myself to an abba stand at some point though.;)

Failing that, any real man can just lift the back end off the ground with one hand while lubing the chain with the other. :-)

That's not meant to be a euphemism btw.

Not exactly convenient, but if you take the chain guard off you can clean 1/4 - 1/3 of the chain, roll bike forward, repeat, and do the same with lubing. I did that for a long while before I got my first paddock stand.

Having just been using one for the first time over the weekend, I'd strongly advise just investing in an Abba stand and having done.

So, so much better and easier to use than a paddock stand, and more useful if/when you need to get the rear shock out too.

Seriously, when the one im buying for keeps, arrives the paddock stand is getting punted.

a block of wood or a brick under the sidestand and a jack on the other side should work. put some old tyres either side of the bike in case it falls over :)
