View Full Version : Falling out of love

Jammy

Im inexplicably falling out of love with my bike

I just see it as a tool to go on rideouts with now, i dont yearn for it like i used too.

I feel like changing bikes but i cant justify it whatsoever, as i havent had the sv long enough, dont want to spend any more money, etc. I know i can sell the bike for a profit (discounting the paintjob, various crashes etc) and get something cheaper.

Feel free to mock me, i need it.

The hideous colour of the thing aint helping either methinks

what colour is it? im slowly feeling the same hence why im stubbying the exhaust and getting the bike wrapped, maybe you should change a few things about it and it might re-light that spark

It was formally standard silver. I lowsided it badly and decided to get the whole thing resprayed bright orange. Loved it at first but its quickly turning into loathing

It happens, I've been the before myself. Changing bike only helps for a short time, hence why I've had a few different ones over the years.
For the past couple of years I've pretty much had no inclination to ride at all but the urges do come back as they have done with me

Forgot to mention that the sportier positon of the sv650 is still causing me alot of pain, hence me wanting an upright naked instead

Strip the front and make it a naked then!

It's easy enough to do, get the bits you need off eBay and that should keep costs down

i have the standard silber which i hate, i have a monster energy vinyl sheet which is black but i want the bike black with green stickers

It's happened to me. I lost interest year before last and literally rode 5 times the whole year.

It happens but I guarantee you'll be sat there on a nice sunny day and think "**** me I really want to go for a ride" and you enjoy it again. I do now.

That's like using your Playstation to play only one game over and over. If you use your bike for one thing, you'll quickly get used to it.

But use it for different things and you see its true worth. Have you been on a Tour? Trackday? Stunting ;)?

If you Tour on it, you'll fit it out for more comfort and luggage. Then get off and enjoy just being on a bike.

If you do trackdays you'll want to improve the handling and performance, add some bits and pieces and get the absolute most out of it. Etc etc ...

You'll get the motivation to do more stuff to it because there's a purpose. By the way, this kind of apathy can strike no matter what bike you have. Its just that with a more expensive bike you will do stuff to it simply to justify the expense of having it!

My bikes are just a tool for rideouts (and now a job obviously). I don't ride by myself for pleasure. The social aspect and playing with other bikes is the majority of the experience for me, so your mindset it probably much like mine.

What you did is run out and trick it up and lavish attention on it. Now you've got bored of that blinging phase and it's time to concentrate on the riding and socialising. So long as you're having fun on our rideouts and feel like you're improving, then there's no issue here.

Make the hobby the riding and not the bike itself. That's what it is for most of us. Take Spank for example. I don't think his bikes have ever received any non-rideout love, EVER! Just look at the state of them! :)

First sunny ride will fix all that young Jamster. For now keep it running and keep riding it. Come the warmer, lighter evenings you'll be itching to get out on it and if you can't get out on it you can polish your bling with a cool beer between bling polishing activity.

Optionally you could come and clean my blingless bike to start working off your debt interest.

Is this some kind of excuse for the reason you was lagging ;)

Mark_h
06-03-13, 02:53 PM
Hopefully he was lagging so he could ride within his comfort zone. Taking the **** out of him not being the quickest is going to do nothing for the quality or the enjoyment of his riding.

Within the GM we made a lot of progress on the riding standards of many of the regular attendees by being supportive and constructive rather than "I'm faster than you" comments. Would be good if we could do the same this year. Suggest all the billy big balls stuff gets left at Loomies.

But I am the fastest, and also have the largest balls.

Ah Simon, that would explain why your penis looks so tiny (So Gav tells me)

I saw a bright orange SV in St John's Wood the other morning. Rider was wearing matching dayglo orange vest, don't suppose that was you?

Jammy,

If you think
a) you're hard enough
b) you can fend off all the women it'll attract

Maybe I could let you have a go on the mighty Epicuro. Which, if you feel so inclined, could also do with a damn good clean.

Jammy
06-03-13, 05:32 PM
@Littlepeahhead

Dont own an orange dayglo vest unfortunately :(

Ive come to the conclusion that i have to keep the bike anyway to get the no claims so i wont be getting rid. oh and that getting rid of the bike is moronic anyway when im 19...

And Mark id love to.

As an aside, i went to motts earlier and sat on some bikes. R1's are about as comfortable as sitting on Gav's lap..

Jammy, as per most other (useful) posts in the thread, soon as the good weather is here you'll love the bike again.
Plenty of biking weekends to be had this year, a few long weekends potentially. Soon as my first 2 holidays and the AR are out the way i'll look at putting some together.

Jammy, if this is brought on about by women, then it's time for another man chat.

LOL.

Its ok guys, whilst considering decal designs for my fairing, i wondered into the spare room where i had some broken uppers for reference, then spotted my slightly broken/scuffed lowers ive had for ages and forgotten about.

Gona get my sv all fully faired up again, like it was when i bought her :DDDDDDD

changing you bike is only ever going to be a pro-tem fix, you need to find enjoyment riding, if you don't currently you aren't engaging in the right type, there are many different things you and your bike can do, with or without others as well as various bike related motorsports, also you can combine motorcycling with other interests such as photograph or visiting places that interest you, I've only been at it 36 year and about a million and a quarter miles and haven't run out of things to do or enthusiasm yet.

Cheers Mark.

I was in the same position as you jammy.
Im only 21 and i got a zx6r last year ( its bright green ) and i love it as it was a big step up from the sv that i was a little board with.
But now i miss the sv. Yes it was slower and handling wasnt as good but i miss it, there was something about it much like my dr350, funnest bike ive ever ridden and it spend 90% of ifs life below 60mph.

Find some new roads and routes, plan a rideout for everyone that you can lead it really helps love the bike again.

and dont worry about this lots man hood...wait till bear gets his on you then youll have to be worried :makelurve:

Has happened to me a few times over the years! The best cure I've found is sell it! As soon as I have sold it I want to buy another. Never takes more than a couple of weeks!

But I will go with the majority and say wait for the dry warm weather then see how you feel?;)

Warm days etc is all good BUT if you are in pain or uncomfortable on your bike then no amount of sun will make you enjoy the thing. Make the bike comfortable for you before doing anything else.

interesting.... I've been in pain constantly since Oct 11th 2006, hasn't stopped me, you can only do so much with ergonomics, then it's just balance/tolerance/ priorities and passion.

well in my case anyway.

I agree that you can only do so much, but you should still do it.
I am guessing that since you mentioned an exact date something happened that has left you with pain and you haven't let this pain stop you riding and clocking up an impressive mileage. :thumright:
Jammy gets his pain from riding his bike, that's it, there was no accident or event. No riding = no pain. In my opinion that could be a main factor in "Falling out of love" with his bike.
Personally i had something similar to the Jamster and found that after a flat bar conversion my SV was a complete joy to ride rather than painful and frustrating. Hopefully he can get shot of the pain from a bit of tweaking rather than just putting up with it forever.

I only fall out of love with my SV when I'm doing work on it & the work takes longer than it should, either down to my incompetence or parts or tools not doing what they're supposed to.

When its working & I'm riding it, then I love it again.

At the moment I don't like it much
