So, I work in currys, I'm 19 years old, feeelance photographer/videographer, and love techy stuff.
I'm not a fan of retail, purely because of the way we are trained to speak to customers, I disagree with it. So want out.
I've come across one or two reps for various companies in the past and the job seems right for me.
Travelling, which is good because I like 'change'.
Technology, it's almost everything I live for (aswell as any form of speed or adrenaline lol)
Responsibility, I thrive off it.
Apparently the pay is good.
And yeh, that's the main factors, ever rep I've spoke to have said that the job would suit me after speaking to them, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any close family or friends in this job or if anyone has any advice or anything useful to me..
Thanks in advance!

Have a look at some of the recent 'careers advice' threads. Yes knowing someone in is perhaps the easiest, but not the only way. Get yourself on linked in, get a website up of your photography, highlighting there the technical aspect, like camera you are using why, perhaps small blog type things with each shoot, or your fab photos. Direct your LinkedIn here. Search for the people you need to speak to to get the job and find a way to speak to them face to face. And remember any friend from on here would only a best be able to get you in front the the hiring manager, you can do this by either bumping into him at an industry event a la LittlePeaHeads first job, or by a number of different ways. I'm sure there will be more specific advice, but best of luck. :)

Go knock on some doors, see what happens. What actual experince do you have? If you haven't got the right experince I'd go suggest you go get it before hand.
I got my Intership by handing my CV into the manger in person, so instead of waiting a year or more I doing it right now, so in a few weeks I'll know a lot more about film cameras from 35mm through to digital film.
I'd go be a Cannon rep, it will give you the most options, becasue they do crappy cheap cameras right through large senor CMOS broadcast spec cameras it will give you more lattitude. You will also need to know about work flows, lens, lights ect.
If you want bad enough you can make it happen.

In the 1970's I went for a job at Marstons breweries and one question was where would I like to be in 10 years. I also said astronaut, didn't get the job.

Thanks for the advice. And I was thinking either canon or Samsung. Because if I stick to my photography aswell as following through with this rep job, I don't want it all being photography based and me get sick of it. So being a Samsung rep would also give me the versatility of knowing about most electrical things as appose to just cameras.
When you say 'get experience', how do it get experience relevant for being a rep?

I'd go find a job spec, then see how match up to it then learn what you don't know. I'd go do an interhsip with them or a reseller to meet the right people and get experince and improve your product knowledge. Nothing annoys me more than some idiot trying to selling me something they know nothing about! Whatever you don't go trying to sell 4k TV's, projectors to people its still being tested we don't currently have the bandwith on fibre or transmission to suppourt it. I know that they are going try and sell them soon, don't do it!
I can see why you wouldn't want to do just photo based products, but cannon do alot more than that. It really depends onw here you want to end up, though Sony would be fun to work they don't alot of products, more than you see in stores.
