Yes folks, Weston Bike Night is going to give it another go this year after last years much lowered attendance due to horrible weather.

For 2013 we really need to pull the rabbit out of the hat because the local council are charging a lot for use of the beach lawns and we have to try to raise a good amount, so even if the weather is *&^%ing awful, do please come and drop your pound in the bucket.

Anyway dates are as follows.

As usual, the radio station will be providing the sounds of rock music on the sea front and Scallys will be providing a Hog Roast and live bands every Thursday. Be warned though, since the erection of the stupid new multistory car park, bike parking will be limited. The Owners of Scallys have asked if the road can be closed from six PM until nine PM to allow for bike parking, but I am yet to have this confirmed as going ahead.

I aim to take my new toy Death Trap MKIII down there a few times and maybe even get the SV down there too. Alby the Barnowl will be there when the weather permits for cuddles and bird strikes!

Let's hope that we do manage to have a summer this year and can actually raise some money. If you need to ask where the Money goes, then you must live in a dark box under the stairs! The money raised is for the Royal British Legion, a charity that supports British service people of all ages.

Do please come and say hello and if you are brave, you can come and have a cuddle with Alby or even Carol and I!

Just in case you are wondering who Alby is and why she goes to Bike Night, this is me and her.

Why do I take her down there? Well, she likes to take the bike out in the summer and where is better on a nice summer evening?

What we would like to see is more nights like this.

And less nights like this.

I'll be down on the May 9th one as it is my B-Day so hoping to arrange a cheddar ride and end in WSM where everyone can give me cards with money in them and a bike that doesn't break once a week.

We had the Bike Night Marshals meeting yesterday afternoon and everything is going ahead nicely.

I am going to be one of the first aid providers, so make sure that if you hurt yourself at any of the events, you can get your self to hospital because my first aid kit consists of only two things, a sticking plaster and a rectal thermometer! :smt040

So folks, lets keep hoping for some sun shine and I hope to see some of you there. As always, you can find us in the noisy tent. :takeabow:

The first event of the year was a great success with just over 750 bikes turning up. What would be really nice would be it continuing like this through out the summer, so if you are about do please head over and say hello.

I am pretty easy to find, I am usually in the place with the most noise and can often be seen with a barn owl. If you have kids with you bring them along to meet Alby the Owl. :D

I am looking forwards to another lovely warm dry evening in Weston, however the forecast is saying showers and sunny spells for the 16th of May. :-(

Oh well, last week we had thirty five, let's see if we can improve on this tomorrow. :D

The forecast looks good for tomorrow, so it would be lovely to see a load of you SVers down there. It was lovely to meet Gary and his family last week and then to catch up with Electro too.

So see you lovely lot soon. :D

The weather was awful there this evening and my step daughter asked to be taken home at just before eight because she was cold and wet. I fell asleep at just after three PM and woke up at five PM with it raining hard.

Not sure how many came, but it looked less than twenty when I left.

Hi Folks,

I am sorry to bring to you a sad announcement. Bike Rock Radio ( ie Me and the wife and our mates ) will no longer be providing music for Weston Bike Night, a most worth while charity event.

Sadly this decision was made for us, not by the event organisers or us, but rather by Weston Super Mare Town Council. If we want to have music at the event, we have to pay the council even more money for the right to do so. This despite our having already paid a significant amount to the council for the right to use the beach lawns and to the independent contractor who run the toilets.

This is as far as I can see it, another money making scam by Weston Council and I know that the event organisers are making a formal protest to the council over it.

So until further notice, there will be no music at Bike Night. A consequence of this is that it is unlikely that we will have Alby the Owl with us too. We will however still be attending bike night because we support the event and believe in the charity it raises money for.

I hope to see some of you down there. Best wishes and if you see us, do come and say hello. :D

Scandalous!! Commercial events might warrant a charge but a charity event such as bike night? Shame on North Somerset council.

Attempting to cash in on events in this way is ultimately counter productive for the council. Over 700 bikes attended last week and you can bet most of them spent money in the town whilst they were there. If the powers that be keep trying to squeeze money from such organised events, the quality of the events themselves will suffer as in this case (no more music) and people may eventually stay away (although I hope not).
How much is bike night worth to the local economy of Weston? Fuel stations, shops, bars/pubs, food outlets etc all gain from the numbers generated by bike night. They should look at the bigger picture before trying to make a quick buck.

Tonight at Bike Night we have the Guitar duo of Warble and Horne, who are great fun. It is also Streetfighter night, so there should be some damn nice bikes down there. As for me, I will be in the usual place so if you want to come and say hello, just head for the noisy part of the sea front.

See you down there. :D

So the summer is coming to an end, the nights are drawing in and Bike Night will soon be over until 2014. Part of me is glad, because I want to spend the winter curled up asleep in a box under the stairs. :smt039

So this coming Thursday evening is the last Weston Bike Night of 2013, Bike of the night will be chosen from the bikes that won Bike of the Night over the summer as they are brought up to the front, clean, polished and well parked in the early evening sun shine.

The band that were due to play have pulled out, so music will be provided by us as always. The presentation of the cheque for money raised will be presented to the Royal British Legion at the Biker Rock Radio stall.

We have had a good summer and hopefully we have raised a good amount (once the local council have taken their cut!) thanks to many sunny warm evenings.

I have met a few Orgers down at Bike Night too, who are always welcome to pop by the BRR tent, especially if it is raining.

So if you have not yet been to Bike Night, do please come on down and enjoy the last night of the season. Lets make this one a real mother of a blow out! :rave:

So here we are, the last bike night of 2013, we have managed to find another band to play this evening so that should be good. The Mayor of Weston is being brought down by bike for the presentation of the cheque (not that he has helped much in my view!) to the Royal British Legion.

I hope to see a lot of people here this evening, maybe even a few Orgers can pop on down. Don't worry, I am still heavily medicated so will not be kidnapping anyone for basement wives again! ;-)

Thanks to the Org for allowing me to have this thread here, thank you to anyone who has come down and supported the event and I would just like to wish Stu (AKA The Only Nemesis) all the best and hope that he is recovering well, it would be nice to see him and Nikki on the sea front again soon.

Hugs to all. :D

Well that is Bike Night 2013 over and we did well with the money raising, handing over a cheque for a good amount, well above last years £9k.

Thank you to any of you who did come and join in the fun, it was lovely to meet you all. Tonight I met Zim and he promised to come back for more next year. Shame that it was the last one of the season to have met this charming gentleman. :-)

I had intended on coming last night as I hadn't had a chance recently, however I was greeted by paramedics in my living room as my stepson had a seizure (now confirmed as a febrile seizure and is all ok) so I spent my evening at the children's hospital instead!

What was the total raised?

I am sorry to hear that Dan, hope that your Stepson is much better now.

Thanks for the words Geo, you know I loves ya.

The total raised so far is just over £13 000, not bag for a load of hairy bikers gathering on a grassy road side and telling fart jokes! :D
