Hi,
This is worrying me a little. It's only happened once, but then I've only ridden the bike twice. I'd appreciate any thoughts.
This is the story. I rode the bike home, through city rush hour, out on the open road. Stopped for fuel, continued 15 miles more to the start of our drive. Absolutely normal operation so far, not a beat missed and instant starting and solid idle.
I had to wait for a tractor before starting up our track, and after ticking over for a few seconds the engine stopped. It wouldn't start unless I gave it quite a bit of throttle, and although it would start and rev it cut out as soon as the throttle was closed. After four or five attempts, and revving for a few seconds, it settled down to normal tickover. I headed up the drive and after a few yards it stopped again, same issue it needed to be revved for a few seconds before it would idle.
After that it was back to normal. The track was seriously slippery so the whole 1/2 mile was done at barely more than idle with a lot of stop-start, and the engine behaved perfectly without stalling or cutting out.
Any ideas? As I say, it's put the wind up me and if there's some underlying problem I'd rather get to grips with it sooner rather than wait till I'm left stuck somewhere. I have to confess to a bad feeling because my last bike let me down on the very first trip - dropping stone dead with a destroyed battery, and that bike turned out to be nothing but trouble. When I hit this issue with the SV my first thought was "surely not again"
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
