Good afternoon all!

Right, I am about to call Carol Nash to get a quote for my SV. Ill give you mine and the bikes details:

Me:
22 year old male
Full bike license 3 1/2 years
Clean license/no recorded offs
3 years no claims
Ive owned this bike for two whole years, this is the third
Live in a village in Oxfordshire, low crime rate

The Bike:
2001 SV650S
First registered in Germany by original owner, now fully imported with UK reg. Its had UK reg for years, since before i got it.
I have added:
GSXR SRAD750 front end
B1H Kawasaki shock
Ive done the camswap
Converted to naked
Will have a modified headlight with projectors
Full exhaust system
Will add riser plates
All the norm stuff like indicators, tail tidy crash pads etc

So with all the above information can you suggest insurers you might have used under similar circumstances that have a good price? If the bike was completely standard i would be paying a touch over £200 this year. When i declared my mods to my previous insurer at renewal time he apologised and said they cant touch me!

Ebike are decent when it comes to declaring mods. I've got all mine listed on my policy and its not too bad to be honest. Worth a quote, you just tick various boxes when declaring your mods during the application.

I know mce doesnt have a very good reputation around here, but they dont charge more for modifications. They have been okay with me so far. To give you an idea...

Im 20
Licence since may 2011
2 years no claims
One rec accident but third party at fault anf fully paid out.
Clean license
Had bike for 1 year

2001 curvy
Full fairing
Db screen
Seat cowl
Beowulf end can.
(Obv nothing actual performance enhancing there.

Mce £370 fully comp with bike valued at £2400 (better to aim high and they include mods when they value bike).

I'm currently with mce, they sorted out the claim ok, could have been quicker ( had a courtesy bike so didn't care too much ) and asked less times if I was injured, but assesser listened to what I wanted and then sorted it. They were also the cheapest quote.

mce seem to be good but rather try and shaft you over, i went with them before when it came to renewal it was nearly double when i told them of a quote I got elsewhere the girl said ok then bye and hung up! Call center weren't that helpful bar one fella i got once. Were really awkward when trying to get proof of no claims when i wanted it. If you type your detail into comparison sites now the companies will call you and normally give you a good deal better than what the website had given, thats my experience anwho.

I'm in the same boat and just getting quotes..what was different from last year is the extensive list of mods you can choose from when making up the quote.

It seems if you breathe on the bike its a mod and they put up the premium. ( why are crash bungs a premium changer. ) A particular company made a large jump in premium after 2+ mods.

I mean making a bike better for the rider should reduce the premium. On another note, adding stickers really is taking the mickey as a mod ( should reduce the premium if it makes the bike look worse).

Alas they are all in it together ( bennetts came in best so far if I had 2 mods).

Well thanks guys but i ignored all your advice. I went onto Google and searched insurance for customised/modified bikes. I think i clicked the first link that came up and gave them a call. The very helpful lady on the phone helped me through it. Due to the level of modifications I have the insurers class my bike as a streetfighter. So she went off to get an insurance quote from her manager while i sat there wondering how far over £500 it was going to be.

She came back to me with a quote of £335 TPFT, with like for like MOD cover, leathers cover, personal injury cover, euro cover, legal cover and breakdown cover. And i said thank you very much and bought it! I know i could probably have got a bit cheaper if I had shopped around...maybe. Im happy though because that's what I paid last year with no mods declared.

If anyone wants to know who the final insurer was ill let you know just need to check my docs.

And finally, declare your mods guys, it might be worth it one day. I definitely feel better now its all transparent!

I am with Equity Red Star insured through a Swinton office (not Swinton Bikes). I have 6 mods and there was no extra charge. The only hassle Swinton had was getting the mods listed as there were so many it has to be done manually (whatever that was). Up to 3 mods could be be declared easier apparently. They were still the cheapest come renewal.

I agree, you should declare your mods. Will be interested to hear who your are with.

i'm definitely interested in knowing what's the company as i'll have to insure my modified sv in may as i've got tired of being bullied by officers because of my EU plate...(last one threatened me that i had to spend the nigt in jail because i was speeding 40mph instead of 30.... what an idiot..)
cheers

I think that the bike insurer is also known as ramasis we have my son's sv insured through them, 17 year old with exhaust declared was about £550 the cheapest by a few hundred pounds. I have spoke to them on a couple of occasions and they seem ok.

Alright Flame, i replied to your PM i think. First link on google when you type in modified motorbike insurance. Don't bother with the online form, just call. I think they are part of the bike insurer. They do like a modified bike policy comparison so can probably find you the best price. How modified is your bike? this option is more for declaring suspension mods, power increase mods and bodywork mods combined. If its just a can and a screen you wont need to go so specialised.

I think he means who is the underwriter?

Just be careful with what you declare.

H & R have always been the cheapest for me. not the best but cheap. im 18, full license since march, 1 years no claims. my 99 sv650s fully comp with brake down cover is £630. i changed the colour from blue to white and the didnt charge extra, only done minor mods that you dont tell them tbh.
