Okay, so Ive had my trusty AGV K3 for quite some time now and could really do with a new lid as ive bought a new bike also.

Anyone's opinions are welcome and looking at spending around the £350-400 mark.

Looking for something that will be light, comfortable and more summer focused than all year round as my majority of riding is done in nice weather.

I've never seen one in real life, let alone worn one, but I've already decided that my next lid will be a Nexx XR1R - currently a toss up between the Carbon and Cafe Racer models. Reviews say they're really comfy, with good ventilation and are just about the lightest full-face out there

check the MCN review if you're interested, they're really keen on it

Shoei xr1100

Great fit and quality, good venting too. Good enough to keep my brow becoming too saturated in a Melbourne summer.
Had an agv ti-tech before that and the shoei is a much better bit of kit.

HJC R-PHA same as Ben spies £300 + helmet but with different graphics can be had for £150!!! It's even lighter than my old carbon fibre helmet. 100 times better than my aria rx 7. Lighter easier to change visor and no stupid whistling noise from the pod covers. I wouldn't change my HJC for anything else.

Try on as many helmets as you can and then choose the one that fits the best :-)

I have a Shoei head so my old XR1000 is a great fit. Am due a new one soon and will either try the GT Air or the new XR1100 for fir!

This is the most important thing by far! No point in buying a super high spec, high price helmet if it does not suit your head shape - a cheap one that fits better would probably be safer. Go to a large store and try on various brands and models and make a shortlist of what suits you. Then go and read some reviews on your shortlisted helmets before you make your final choice.

I'm heading down to my local to try some on the weekend when I pick my bike up.

Heard a lot about the hjc for lightness so will def look into those plus the shoei's and sharks.

I have an XR1R Carbon and an AGV Ti-Tech the XR1R is a better helmet they have a similar head fit. I also tried the HJC Carbon and the Bell Carbon the Nexx helmet is better than those as well.

This!!!

Go to a shop that does a lot of ranges or go to several and go mad!
If your wanting cheaper AGV this is my last helmet <<Clicky>> (http://www.customlids.co.uk/index.php/shop/product/Motorcycle+Helmets-AGV+Helmets+/2KeAuUiW1Y3hGC92/0). I'm now using the cheaper version (Skyline) again to this and its really good

hjc fs maxn flip up for me. £130, fits perfect and the flip up is actually really useful when your getting the bike outa the garage, filling up with petrol, chatting with the lid still on etc.

More sports orientated, I'd have one for when I get a gs800 or 1200 but not for street/ sports riding

stuR

fair enough. i doubt my flip up will match my gsxr6 when i start riding that, even less so because the helmet is flouro yellow but then i remebered i dont see my own head whilst riding so who cares ;)

Image is everything! Joking. Rather have a safe lid that protects my head!

Always found flip ups to be heavy, noisy and a bit hairy bikers, also dont fancy crashing in something thats hinged in the middle

i suppose that is a point, i guess all the lids have met a certain standard, but some will have gone above and beyond it or so i have heard?

Check out the sharp ratings, and look at % of tests where the flip stayed locked. I think you will be surprised at some figures!

Tomor
20-03-13, 11:05 PM
For example, 5 star rated lid, but check out the % lid stayed locked. How did it get 5 stars?!

May aswell wear an openface....

Word of Warning with Sharp

The tests are flawed as some of the best helmets under Snell (which is the most comprehensive helmet test in the work) fail SHARP. There is a group of manufacturers that won't give hemets to the Sharp test (Nolan Group and used to be Arai)
