View Full Version : Debrix emulator group buy?
gt900uk
21-03-13, 01:52 PM
So basically i was looking to try and get a set of these debrix emulators for my bike. Looks like the would be £55 posted for one set. Anyone up for setting up a group buy? They would work out about £28 each (debrix gave me a %5 discount code as they couldnt do anything to lower the postage) if 10 people got together.
I know i could organise it myself but with work i really struggle to make time to get to the post office to ship them out to others.
Cheeky i know but thought it might be worth a shot.

If somebody else wants to handle the organisation, payment, payment collection etc I'd be happy to take delivery of a load and send them out to folk.

Well if you are able to deal with that YC, then I guess I could do the organising. Better to start a new thread? If not can people add themselves to a list and append to thread? So with 10 users would be £28 plus YC's postage costs and not sure if there would be a customs hit. Anyone who organised previous buys able to comment?

Ok so I was looking to get a set of these and looks like a group buy is the most cost effective method. I will be looking for payment prior to submitting the order so please be 100% and keep an eye on this thread for updates. I have contacted debrix to see if they can do any discounts so will update with price though looks like £28 each with UK postage (need to discus with YC) and any custom charge.
So append you name below here if you are interested in a set

I'll get a quote at work on Monday for a jiffy bag plus first class uk post or signed for if you'd want that etc.
Id definatly be interested in any mods that are going to improve handling... however can someone just explain what these are and in brief how easy they are to install?
gt900uk
21-03-13, 08:06 PM
Essentially they add adjustable (internally) high speed compression dampening with a separate low speed circuit. Pretty easy to fit if you are remotley handy with the tools. http://racetech.com/html_files/DampingRodForks.HTML that's a good link to have a look at. Please add your names to the list if interested.

For 30 Id be in!

You need to be able to dismantle the forks, drill out some holes in the damper rods and block a small hole up with e.g. epoxy. If fitting to a pointy, you also need to get a bush machined and fitted to the end of the damper rods to keep the emulator centralised so it seals properly. No bush is needed on a curvy.

Whats the diff on a pointy? Eg. Against new springs better thicker oil against factory springs?
Oh and the 'knock'
Because id be in if someone can do the spacers and it will get rid of the knock. It will be my next project.
yorkie_chris
21-03-13, 10:40 PM
I am offering mods to rod and spacers fitted to suit these debrix in pointy, £40.
Also modded rods for curvy £30.
Plus post. Can send some modded ones out so long as you send me your OEM ones back when you've swapped them. Might be a slight issue if a lot of people want them doing at the same time (i.e when the emulators land!)
I also get a slight discount on Ktech springs so if people wanted the option of a full package sending, springs, oil, emus and rods then it can be sorted.

How often do these come up? My bike is still new, and I'm still a new rider so don't think I'd get that much advantage from them. But if they don't come up that often it I may get hold of a pair and can keep them until I'm ready to do the springs, heavier fork oil and emulators at the same time.

Chris, what sort of price would the full package be for a pointy?
Cheers

muzikill - I dont have them but seperating low and high speed has to improve handling and indeed seems to from all the anecdotal evidence. Do a search and read a few threads and see what you think.
SvNewbie - The last group buy was around this time last year but i couldnt say for sure how often these things happen it would need a motivated individual to arrange it all. Also you are prob never too new to riding to have sorted suspension. It makes a bike nicer to ride and gives you more confidence. In my opinion its safer also. The way the SV handles rough surfaces whilst cornering isnt ncie at all and apparently these should help lots with that.

Chris, what sort of price would the full package be for a pointy?
Cheers
Rough guess without pricing it all up exactly
£80 springs
£10 oil
£40 damper rod mod
£30 emus (tbc)
postage of lot £10?
I've done them before for folk where they've sent me complete forks, can usually have them back with you within a week.
yorkie_chris

As for the advantage of these things it's been widely discussed but in brief:
The stock forks use oil flowing through a hole. This has a big problem in that the damping follows a squared relationship to speed of travel... which means when you brake there is NO comp damping, when you hit a square edged bump the flow becomes choked and the damping force is large. This hurts.
The emulators use a washer with a hole in it, this little hole restricts flow at low speed.
This washer is sealed to the valve body by a preloaded spring. When the damping pressure exceeds this preload the washer can pop off. This gives a digressive type curve which is much more pleasant to ride.
I don't think they're quite as good as cartridge conversions (these use spring steel shim stacks to finely control the oil flows) however they're double the price and more and interest was pretty limited when I started doing them. Cool if you want the best without changing the front end though.

RE time limit i was thinking just once we get to 10 sets as that seems to be the magic number. After that the price stays much the same.

I'll take 2 sets
gt900uk
24-03-13, 05:19 PM
OK well that's us up to 11 sets.
11 sets including postage is $463.21 or £304.18 which is £27.65 per set. Other group buys have been hit for about £15 tax so add £1.36 brings us to £29 before postage.
I shall PM everyone on the list with payment details after YC confirms postage costs. Everyone happy enough with that?

Forgot to ask how many of you have pointys and what are you doing regarding a spacer/adaptor for the damper rod or is YC just going to be a very busy lad?

I'd recommend BACS payment TBH
gt900uk
24-03-13, 09:01 PM
Well either is fine for me, I can supply options for both. Will it show in my account who has paid the money in with BACS don't want to get confused over who has and hasn't paid.
yorkie_chris
24-03-13, 09:10 PM
I would recommend to do a list with numbers... AFAIK all BACS payment methods give an option for a reference number.
Yeah, I was just going to use my phone to transfer it online. Takes half the time of faffing around with PayPal etc. and with faster payments its there pretty much instantly. there always an option for a reference so I'd say use your user name as ref.
Is it too late to get a set of these? If not then im deffo in

Just had a look on paypal's website and the charge only applys if you are using a debit/credit card. If you have funds in your account or a linked bank account it shouldnt cost anything.
That said BACS is also fine for me so its not really an issue.
Sweet as, cheers fer that, jus pm me payment details n a price n will sort it out :P

Postage was something like £1.93 for a 200g packet plus 95p for recorded if wanted. Anyone have some emulators they can weigh?
Probably less than 200g I'm almost sure. I'd guess if we said something like £2.25 for P+P we'd be safe, depends how much people want to split pennies over it.
I bought a set off an orger the other day, postage was £2.87, was in a nice bubble wrap bag too.
gt900uk
29-03-13, 06:32 PM
Ok so emulators inc 5% off are $477.91 for 12. This is £314.60 so £26.22 each + £2.25p&p + £1.50 expected import charge is £29.97 each. I shall send out PMs regarding payment. Once everyone has paid I shall get them ordered.

For just emulators
Make sure gt900uk has your address and he is going to give me a list of places to post them.
If anyone wants anything else let me know direct, I've got one set of pointy damper rods spare, and 4 or so curvy sets, if anyone wants them modified and sending out on exchange basis, or send me theirs to do. Can send them out with emus too and credit you what you've paid towards postage on the emus themselves.
Thinking of getting a batch of Silkolene Pro RSF if anyone wants any of that too. Let me know.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeet! Il pm ya Chris
