View Full Version : Bennetts Bike Insurance
Just been on the phone, regarding my existing policy getting cancelled :smt062
as only wanted to stop the Aprilia insurance as I sold it to WRC63 but they cancelled both the Aprilia and Honda's insurance.... Good job for crap weather as I would have been riding uninsured since Friday if I had ridden.
Anyhow I ended up going with them again as I got my quote down from £130 TPFT for the Honda down........
down to £39 for the year :0)
Who says :smt094 doesn't work.
 yeah baby
Nice one. I think Bennetts get bad press but they are pretty good. Was told my renewal was £122 but the letter has £114 on it. Only a few quid but a saving!

My insurance went from £189 last year fully comp to only £98 this year fully comp with Bennetts, bloody brilliant considering my age (25)!
I do rate them as an insurer

I was with Bennetts for the last 3 years but this year they wanted £487 for my GSXR!!!!!
I thought no way, hunted round and took a policy out with MCE for £175 fully comp, protected no claims, no voluntary or compulsory excess, free RAC cover, free legal assistance and free helmet and leathers cover. Bennetts couldn`t match it so I said bye bye :D
Right Just got the Bike MOT'd and Tax'd so for the Year minus fuel it's cost me a Total of
£101.25 :0) Bargain :)

You riders with insurance for under £200 quid, where are you keeping your bike. i.e., on road, in a garage. is it otherwise a "safe" neighbourhood. Mine is kept "On private driveway" but was £450 this year. First bike.

In a locked brick built garage in reasonable area.

or is it more to do with the fact that we`re older?? more years riding experience? greater no claims bonus? female? (we`re obviously safer riders :D

You say that but im only 25 and my insurance was only £98. I have 6 years no claims and have been riding since I was 16. I suppose the experience side of things is true for me in a way.

Mine is listed on the road so I can keep it wherever. Two years no claims but license held for 12 years. I'm 29.
It is also related to the age and type of bike. The sv1000 was significantly cheaper than the zx6r even though both have similar power. I guess there is a multiplier for shininess :)

Funny to see this. I have been with Bennetts for the last 3 years and last year was paying £40 per month for my FZ1 which I knew was fairly expensive however I had all modifications listed (full akro system, PC3, etc etc etc). Including top spec break down cover.
Renewal through the post today and suddenly it is £63 per month! Straight on to compare the market to get yet another meerkat toy...
Strangely Bennetts appear at the top of the list! £12 per month!
Straight on the phone asking why this? Why that? And the poor guy had no idea. His only advice was to cancel the policy and start a new one...
So I have done. Bennetts are great, a major hiccup I know but its great customer service and with UK call centres its fantastic.

mine is kept in a brick built (part of the house) garage and in quite a nice/low crime area and my anual policy with all my mods and my medical 'condition' now is about £100. but then i do still live with my parents etc. also helps having a low insurance group bike like the sv. not so blingy and shiny to a thiefs eyes!
female? (we`re obviously safer riders :D
can't be because your a woman anymore, they've made it illegal! what with all the equality laws etc. i think rightly so to.

It seemed some of the people had similar riding experience and were younger then me but were 200 cheaper. On the no claims, is there any overlap with cage no-claims?
I like bennets approach to mods you dont have to declare eg huggers, heated grips etc.
The problem I found was extra blinginess added pounds. To the point that a carbon front mudguard + handlebars upgrades ( heli bar raisers ) meant they wouldn't be able to give me a competitive quote ie X4 lowest quote.
For the second year running I've had to ask the sales team ( another broker) to listen to a previous telephone call to confirm a low quote, as they wanted to back out of it :) .
Just done the annual comparison and unless my current insurers (Ebike) can come down a bit on their renewal price I'll be switching to Bennetts.
MCE came in cheaper but seems like a false economy as their excess is way more than the other insurers for the same cover. That, and I've heard a lot of people say they're robbing gits with awful customer service...
Free breakdown cover with Bennetts at the moment too although I'm sure it's basic

MCE allways get such poor reviews your taking a big gamble.
If its 3 party then I guess its ok as the Other side got to fight them.
Ther cheap for a reason
Not going to MCE, currently with Ebike but considering switching to Bennetts ;)
Think you're confusing me with this person?

bennets mce wont insure my bike so i have to pay a little more somewhere else.
Biggest PITA for me was the suspension.Mention that and its all bets off with quite a few insurance companies
I had heli bars and that was a no no with bennetts ( steering mod)
I could save pounds if I had another inch on my legs.
maybe I could ask then to add a bit when I get new knees !!!

Funnily enough bennets came up cheapest for me this year (first year ever), wonder if they've changed their criteria as it always used to favour the 40s+ or maybe they're on a push for business after bad rep.
Just got off the phone to Hastings about my renewal who smashed that price out of the water.

Same here, Bennetts have always been one of the dearest this year they were by far the cheapest

Renewal from ebike came today. I'm defo switching to Bennetts now as they're coming in £200 cheaper than my renewal quote! Free RAC breakdown cover too :)
Policy includes legal cover, personal accident cover, leathers & helmet cover, fully comp with mods declared.
Sold. Bye bye Ebike. Do insurers give ridiculous renewal quotes cause they reckon we're too lazy to switch or something?

Yes. Other companies will say things like new customer discount. But in truth they all hope we are too lazy to be bothered.
Even more annoying is when you churn your details in the comparison site and your own company comes out cheaper than their renewal.
cancelled old insurance for VFR400R with bennetts and taken out new multi bike insurance out...
this seems strange but I got £36 cash back from old policy as upgraded to Fully comp and Added the BMW F650GS and it is now....
£181.82 for the year for both bikes :) with £250 each excess...
So still a happy camper...
Bike are kept in a double locked concrete garage @ night.
Just to chuck a spanner in the works.
Is it worth putting a data tage or the dots stuff on a bike.
Mine has none but there a few data tag and alfa dot kits on the web

Do one quote without then one quote with.
In my experience it knocked less than a tenner off, I bought it once because I managed to get a smar****er kit on offer for £10 - never again though.
Free RAC breakdown cover too :)
Had to use this for the first time on tuesday. Battery suffered sudden death syndrome and went open circuit.
My experience in dealing with Bennetts and the RAC was first class. Bennetts sorted it all out from their end and RAC van was with me within 45 mins. The RAC guy diagnosed the fault and gave me a lift to the nearest battery stockist where I bought the battery. He then drove me back to the bike and fitted it, tested it and then just asked for a quick signiture before he was on his way. No form filling, no charge, no follow up calls from Bennetts.

Glad this thread has come up. After recent incidents I may have to give them a call when my renewal comes through in December... I'd dreading it already...
At least Hastings have agreed to fix the £2900* of damage to the Street R!!!
* I do think they were kicking the @rse out of it quoting that much....
Thought it would be worth adding here that I recently had a car knock my bike over whilst it was parked (see link (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=208149)). Damage was light but needed attention and as I was not at fault I informed Bennetts straight away.
I told them that I wanted to claim directly from the 3rd parties insurance policy rather than making a claim on my fully comp policy and having them recover the costs. Bennetts were fine with this and took all the details I had over the phone. The claims handler I was on the phone with also gave me a direct email address to send photos of the damage and position of the vehicles at the scene etc.
Bennetts use an accident management company called Fourth dimension to handle assessments and repairs on their behalf. After the first call to Bennetts I dealt solely with 4D throughout the claims process. They dropped off a loan bike (Honda CBR600f) and collected my bike to go back to their premises in Egham, Surrey which I was sceptical of at first (I'm in Bristol) but they assured me that all nationwide cases are dealt with at their single repair shop where I was told they have over 100 staff trained to work on all makes/models. I was also assured that my bike would be stored indoors the whole time and not left out in the open.
The time from getting my bike collected by 4D to getting it back was around eight weeks in total. This would have been much quicker had I claimed on my fully comp policy as they would have carried out the repairs asap and returned my bike to me within a couple of weeks and then would have sought to recover the cost from the 3rd party. However, as I chose to pursue a claim directly through the 3rd parties policy there had to be an admission of liability from the TP and an agreed repair cost before 4D could proceed with the repairs. The TP tried his luck and denied all blame until my witness swung it in my favour. This caused the delay but ultimately I wanted to do it this way to protect my premiums as much as possible for the future.
I had to chase 4D a bit as you'd expect with any claim. I rang once a week to get an update on the status of my claim and they were always happy to discuss the case.
The bike is now back and the repairs look to be of a very high standard. They've repaired/replaced parts as necessary with genuine parts and have cleaned the bike thoroughly. So basically I'm happy with the service I received and would continue to use Bennetts.

I had a no fault claim where I was hit from behind whilst stopped at a red light writing off me and the bike, Bennetts handled it all for me. Although the claim was settled reasonably quickly apart from the personal injuries, I had lost my NCD when they came to propose a renew. I called them and the girl on the other end said she would talk to the underwriters.
15 mins later she phones me. My NCD is reinstated and a new proposal. So good customer services.
Careful when you type in their URL on the web. I inadvertently found a glasgow gay bar with a very similar name. Honest mistake, promise.

They would not touch me, 38, brick garage, licence for 20 years but no ncb as first bike in years, no claims, no points. Their system did not even give a stupid e.g. quote of £1000
Called Carole Nash, all done and sorted fully comp for £250
