Since fixing up the SV, I have been looking for a bit of a project that would leave me with something different. So I bought a '99 750 SRAD (points to anyone who recognoses where this one came from).
Few shots in the last light yesterday, I did clean it afterwards for some reason. Bikes now in the garage with no tank and air box as I work on a full service....

I'll keep updating this as I get it fettled and ready for the warm, dry roads of summer.

Uuugghhh, you have to sit on something that's had Paul's sweaty bits on it? I'd change the seat as the first part of the project!

Didnt realise paulo had a running bike again, thought his SRAD imploded.

Yep. Fair play to Paul, for getting it running again, I thought it was completely foobard. Shot to pieces I heard.
Very nice. You can bolt an SV front end straight on to one of those you know. :rabbit:

Well, the front brakes are best kept away from unless you like angry vibrations, it wont pull high up the revs and the chain makes interesting noises.
So far the seat has been removed and quarantined, as has the tank and airbox. Most of the vac lines are rotten, which could give a clue on the engine - it was running quite rich. Then I want to get the valve clearance and cam chain timing checked, along with a new tensioner for peace of mind.
New chain and sprockets, oil, plugs filter and some straight brake discs and it should be good. Oh and a fork service.

Lolz.. Just to clear up confusion about me bikez.
Nov 2011, bought this Y-k2 750:

The engine seized on the first proper rideout on the first weekend of march 2012... Then the bike sat in bits until around september/october just gone where I managed to get it all back together and working again.
Summer arrived early at the end of March 2012, and I was bikeless... The summer rolled by rather quickly and by the start of June I was desperate to get out on 2 wheels before the great weather passed us by, so found the SRAD for decent money

The srad was great and did plenty of summer rides, plus a tour of scotland and a weekend in wales where I kinda fell out of love with it for a few reasons. Front discs were warped some how (no idea how that could have happened), and it was ready for a new chain and sprockets (started as a tight section which progressively turned into a vibey sensation when riding along). Aside from that after the scotland tour and before the wales weekend it seemed to lose top end power like the rev limiter had slipped down from 13.5k revs to around 11.5k revs.
When mark initially enquired about the srad I told him it was a dog and to stay away from it, told him all the above issues etc. and he decided it'd be a worthwhile project. Runs and rides fine, just needs the few bits above sorting out and it'll be awesome once more.
The 750-Y will be up for sale soon... Looking on Biketrader I could take £2.3k on a good day and £2k on a bad day... Triumph leicester just offered me £1300 for it. I did well not to laugh - or swear. Just told them thanks and that I'd be in touch once I had cash in my hand.

You of all people should know that my bits are always pristine and ready for deployment. As for the rest of me... pass the pressure washer ;)

oh and spray the wheels with wd-40, the brake dust and chain lube comes off a treat with an old rag ;)

Yep, the SV is pretty much spot on now and there is still no riding to be done, seemed the ideal time to get something to tinker with. My boss offered me several boxes that might or might not contain a BSA bantam, but the SRAD is blue and white and makes angry noises.

Lol I wasn't expecting the flame when you rev'd it when you came to view it mark.. Shat my pants in all fairness. BSA would absolutely own the srad round cadwell though

Got to the valves today. All in spec (or within half a thou of it at least) so I'm happy to leave as is fo now. One thing I did notice was what looked like a couple of tiny hairline cracks in the cam holder on the intake side by the chain. Looks OK though, has probably been like that for a while. Chain tension is good and its all correctly timed - heard too many stories of slipped timing on these to not check while I had the chance.

Vac pipe failed to arrive from ebay, so not replaced all the hoses yet. The hose that was totally dead has been blanked off in case I want to test run it. Seems a big vac leak on this would have caused 2 things - the intake pressure sensor to be registering less vacuum than it should, which means longer injection times and the fuel pressure regulator would have also had less vacuum and would have increased the fuel pressure.
Which translates to running really, really rich. Flames out of the back rich :-). So when the snow goes I'll test it and see if the fuelling is back to rights.

Bit more done after work tonight, new vac lines fitted. Ran out of fresh stuff but I think its all air tight now, will order some more blue silicone stuff to finish the job and find out if I need this PAIR hose.

Some faffing to get the idle right now the bikes ecu is in full possession of the facts has yielded good results, starts cleanly on the fast idle and then drops to a smooth 1200rpm. The air flap in the air box which is supposed to boost torque at low revs works again too. If it had any bodywork on I would have ridden it tonight :).
Next up is to buy some new discs and pads to get it stopping cleanly.

Didn't notice either the flame or the smell of shat pants... Doesn't do it anymore now anyway now its not running super rich. I'm wondering if I could fit a button to overfuel and spit flames on demand though :D

Mark simple*!
Tee off the fuel tap, put a lever or electric valve in and weld a spark plug in to the exhaust somewhere.
*I wouldn't recommend it incase it pulls the flames back into the motor. Blip it hard a couple of times and it'll do it

Just stumbled upon this thread by random chance. Cool to see the SRAD staying in the ORG family. Mark, your bike was my first ever ride of a gixxer and the catalyst for me buying one a few weeks later, so it's good to know it's still in safe ORGan hands. :)
