We went out for a little bimble in the car today to gawk at the snow. Some of the drifts are quite impressive!

Above my village...

Minor lane still blocked with a Loadall digging out from the other end :)

The road up from Cerrigydrudion to LLyn Brenig had some mighty snow-drifts, higher than the car :D

We eventually came out onto the A543 Denbigh-Pentrefoelas road, much beloved of motorcyclists. We could see a car in the distance, which turned out to be a Porsche which turned around at this point!

Because this was round the corner!

Just up the road from here we met a tractor going the other way and ended up stuck in a drift trying to pass it. Small tug with the tow-rope by the tractor and we were on our way again..... No photos unfortunately.

Never seen this much snow in my life, astonishing. The strong wind combination has caused havoc up here in Yorkshire.

Been over the Horseshoe yet, Mike?
Plenty snow there 9th February 1963!

Wow Dipper, how has that happened!? Looks incredible.

a common scientific effect known as splashy splashy freezy freezy.
We have a patch of artificial snow on the road frequently here where a puddle always forms. Nothing NEARLY as awesome as what dipper found though.

First time I've seen it, spray from cars passing though puddles builds up on the hedge. The effect is far more enchanting than the explanation I'm afraid!

Thought there must be a fairly interesting cause to it!

Sorry Maria but LP's drifts look more impressive lol

That pic of the frozen splashes on the bushes reminds me of a pic a mate showed me once of niagra falls, the spray was freezing and hanging off the trees making all kind of weird beautiful shapes.

This means you get a cliff sided drift so you get an instant appreciation on the size of the drift. Those snowed in lanes in Yorkshire could have snow 2 foot deep or 12 foot deep, depending on how tall the walls are and if it is a sunken lane

Still pretty impressive whatever. Snow is awesome!

Oh yeah! Another thing, can folks see the video in the link I posted in the OP? Never used the 'public video link' bit of Facebook before.

Yeah the drift over that entire lane was easy 8ft, I had a mission to climb over it haha.
There's been some amazing pics floating about from other folks. Snow fell on Saturday and some roads have only just opened again yesterday, the drifts just kept re-forming and gritters/ploughs were having a hell of a time. Mightily impressed with how they've tackled it though, not an easy job by any stretch. How they managed in 1963 I don't know!!

The road in my video has been closed again yesterday due to new drifts forming in this constant wind. It has stayed below freezing up there so nothing has thawed. The Horseshoe Pass is in a similar state, open then closed then open again and 4x4 access only when it is open.

Basically, most to the good biking roads around here are closed :nomore:

My bike's been confined to the garage all week, so much for possible Easter bimblage :( Very tired of the white stuff now. And I heard yesterday the cold snap could last til the end of April, NOT AMUSED.
