So yesterday morning I rode to Portsmouth from Bournemouth and went straight down the m27, stopped in rownhams services and noticed my boss parked in his 2010 carrera 4s, the motorway at this point was empty so we went onto the motorway and slowed to about 10mph and the had a little drag up to 70 :) I won :) was super proud of the sv and treated her this morning to a new rear tyre and a good wash :)

I love showing up expensive cars like that. We may only have 70 odd BHP but we can certainly get it down quicker than most four wheelers :)

His foot was to the floor aswell, I got into the office today(making sure to put the bike right outside his window) and even he was surprised on the acceleration of the bike

Well if they can beat Lambo

02-04-13, 02:33 PM
a 650 beating a lambo? no chance haha

Farrari's are slow anyway

so are hayabusa's

No seriously they are. Most people buy them because of the name and naturally think its going to be quick. If you get the opportunity to, do it and make sure you get to see their face afterwards..... obviously not if its one of those mega expensive things like the FX or whatever it's called

From a standing start the SV is going to be as fast as anything you are likely to find on road. At least, going by the book figures.
Unfortunately 0-60mph sprints are pretty rare and the SV probably would loose to anything much faster than a diesel Mondeo starting from 40mph!
But that is all beside the point, the motorcyclist is still the one going home with the bigger smile on his face!

i find if i pin it in 3rd and 40mph it pulls like a bl*ody train
ClunkintheUK
02-04-13, 03:31 PM
I bet you could beat a train from 40 to 70.
granty92
02-04-13, 03:34 PM
hmm yeah i agree on that, but torque wise i stand no chance
ClunkintheUK
02-04-13, 03:37 PM
No, probably not.
I must admit its pretty funny when you get people revving at the lights trying to beat you away. There are quite a few Lambo's and Ferrari's around here, will find one to antagonize and report back.

I'd probably stall in a drag race lol :(

my friend has a civic type r, thinks its the fastest thing going just because it has some great turbo put in it, sv still leaves him standing at the lights with his tail between his legs :L

Are you still 33 bhp Granty? Not that you can really use more than that in London without going into the back of a dawdling Addison Lee.

Tony_k has one, as do quite a few others. I'd start a thread on it if you want to catch their notice.

It's been done before, was actually someone on here, can't remember the name though...Need to get back to work, if I get chance will have a look for the thread (can't remember the model, so may have been one of the lower end ones).

I'm just waiting for him to try it with a Ferrari.
I had a play last year with a stretch 360 on the m6 south by coleshill, sounded nice but he kept slowing down so I'd get close to him then he'd boot it, I was on my sprint at the time and I don't think I went over 1/3 throttle lol, wasn't fair tbh, no contest
Anyway, shouldn't this thread be in bike talk, anything bike related doesn't belong in IB.

do you reckon that the scenario actually happened or he just made it up?
I'm happy to take the fifth on that question, whether it happened or not it was a very entertaining thread. Not seen Joe around for a bit, I hope he's ok.

Will second that. Live in footbller/Kerry Katona territory in Cheshire and can testify that an SV will beat almost all exotica from a standing start, even with 17st on board.
However, at motorway speeds an SV is comparable to a sporty turbodiesel. A ditsy colleague's Boxter S had the better of me from about 60 onwards, much to my dismay.
I too can contest that I once found myself struggling to pull away from a megane sport on my sv! Off the lights though, not much keeps up.
If motorway roll on top trumps bothers you, get a zx14 or something!

Get a litre plus sports /sports tourer, not many cars will come even close, only hyper cars will be in the same league.
My sprint was super smooth, power band was nice and didn't drop off until doing really silly speeds, 140 plus.
I found the SV fine up to about 100 if the gearing was used correctly, but it did run out of puff a bit then.
