Just taken the BBC class survey and came out as "Technical middle class" Not entirely sure I agree but can't find good grounds to disagree.

Anyone else wanna try it out and do you agree with the result?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22000973

To expand on my original post, the new survey found 7 classes ranging through:
Precariat
Emergent Service Workers
Traditional Working Class
New Affluent Workers
Technical Middle Class
Established Middle Class
Elite

Established Middle Class make up 25% of the population apparently

Emergent service workers
This class group is financially insecure, scoring low for savings and house value, but high for social and cultural factors.

I was Established Middle Class.

I didn't go to University, I flunked my A-levels.

Define diverse range of cultural activites? This month includes Southend Shakedown, a black tie dinner and awards do in the Long Room at Lord's, a photographic exhibition at the Getty Gallery, a trip to the cinema to see Trance, a day at the cricket, a dinner for a book awards, and a walking holiday in the New Forest. Is that diverse enough?

I'm a new effluent worker.

Although I do think the only difference between me being that and traditional middle class is my age.

Also I socialise with a hell of a range of people who do wildly different jobs and I have no interest in opera but I don't think that defines me.

How come "Middle Classes" established and technical make up the second and third rank. If you are about to say they aren't ranks, then how do you even have the concept of middle?

Also not sure if i want a BBC survey to tell me what class I am.

I come from Essex, that makes me a classy bird right?

But I would much rather do Download than Die Zauberflöte (which is The Magic Flute by Mozart for any of you working class types)

but I think the questions where missing loads of answers I mean metal music was missing and socialise with multi millionaires hello how can you miss them off.

Also do you like Justin Bieber and is your wife also your sister should most definitely have been on there.

Elite

This is the wealthiest and most privileged group in the UK. According to the Great British Class Survey results, lots of people in this group:

Enjoy high cultural activities such as visiting museums and listening to classical music
Went to private school and elite universities
Socialise with people who do a wide variety of jobs

Yes I do go to the theatre and listen to classical music
Yes I went to private school, but definitely a second rate university
Yes I socialise with people in many professions.

But Elite, definitely not. My father started his working life as an apprentice vehicle body builder from a two/up two down. one of 13 kids, 6 of which died in childhood.

So money means you have class? Katy Price must be one of the classiest burds around then, lol

Got me wrong to: Emergent service workers

Yes I work in the Service Sector technically, but its a role where I deal with everyone from the cleaner through to directors of companies.

I see myself as working class, from a working class area, old mans a Building Services Engineer now but spent from 16 through to about 42 on the tools. Mothers a cleaner and we had not a lot growing up.
All that was drummed into us was look to succeed

I know my place:D

Personally I think the whole thing was crafted in such a way as to put the greatest number of BBC employees into the 'Elite' group. I never got much beyond Dangerous.

I'm in a bad place. I'm an ELITE. I hate myself. Give me sympathy you serfs.

Established middle class.
Don't know about that. I'm a long ways from being Elite.

Sid Squid
04-04-13, 08:07 AM
Elite.

Of course, I didn't expect anything else.

(Yes, I did answer it accurately and honestly, so I'm not sure it's a very accurate way of gauging 'class' - whatever that is)

ClunkintheUK

Elite. Apparently. Though thats mostly (entirely) because I live in an owned (not by me, by my much better half) flat. Take that out and I am an emergent service worker. And Iron Maiden is not considered Elite it seems.

Sir Trev
04-04-13, 11:17 AM
Elite, naturally.

A university education, professional salary and owning your own house does not make you elite in my opinion however.

What nonsense.Do we really think a handfull of vague questions not even including occupation tells us anything about class?

04-04-13, 07:23 PM
Just turned out my pockets and found 28p and a leisure centre parking ticket, I'm fit and healthy, though. As for class? if that's just based on money and the type of company you keep, then I'll let others worry aout it.

Nowhere does it ask if you have named your children Jayden or Paige (the most chav names apparently) or if you are a member of MCC and wear salmon coloured corduroys with a yellow and red tie (which seems to mean you have probably been educated at a posh public school but have no dress sense).

Emergent service workers

You are in a decent job but have no money as you are in lots of debt, you go to a pub with saw dust on the floor where you drink too much ale and buy knock off DVD's and SOME of your tattoo's are spelt correctly

They got me COMPLETELY wrong..... I have no tattoo's
