i know what you mean, but if it does go ape i really do think we could end up with nasty repocussions for us and those who live in the part of the world. even though we are on the other side of the world.

I don't think much will come from it. Although the north are nuts I don't think they're stupid enough to actually go through with anything as they're facing being whiped off the earth within a matter of hours. All they've ever done is make threats and small actions to provoke a response. I don't know why the yanks don't just send an assassin in a pop that kim jong nob head off, same for that other nut case in Iran

I think we're pretty much ok. If it's gonna go it is better it does it sooner since their rockets are only improving. Right now they'd be hard pressed to hit much but china and Siberia..

It is simply sabre rattling and posturing in order to demand the world relaxes the sanctions if they then wind down their threats of military action. Every one breathes a little easier and North Korea continues as the last Stalinist state.

The issue with any military action is it will drag in China. China doesn't want to get involved, there is no benefit to them. But it cannot be seen to abandon its neighbour.

Whilst we think North Korea would be a push over to modern warfare. Add China to the equation and things look a lot different.

Also the US has been to war with Korea. It was not a foregone conclusion, and not very popular at home.

i agree, but the only way kim whats his face is going to learn is when he has no army left or is dead, i would propose the latter, i hate they guy, hopefully once im in the army they will send me there so i can beat him up from all of us :D

Trouble is with a stalinist state is probably most of the country is against the childish pleb and his cronies but can't voice their thoughts or escape, if you nuke them then you're going to kill millions of innocent people. it would probably be best to find where him and his followers are and carpet bomb them to eliminate him and any major threat of it continuing. The country is majority impoverished so people probably just go with him as life's easier that way

China have voiced more opposition to north korea than the US and the south

Any attack on North Korea will trigger a massive response. As we have seen over the past 20 years the only way these regimes collapse is from the inside.

No matter how much you may hate your government, you will hate more any foreigner that attacks your country.

War, bombs etc. are not the answer. But unfortunately I don't know what the solution is. The people need to be empowered, but how?

... it would probably be best to find where him and his followers are and carpet bomb them to eliminate him and any major threat of it continuing...

Although it would possibly do the job I cannot see any nation resorting to carpet bombing again if they want any credidibility left afterwards. The amount of civilian casualties would, as the others have said, make any invading force hated as much or more as their government. Plus it didn't work in the '50s or in Vietnam.

The US gained a reputation for wading in without being asked under Bush but can you really see a liberal like Obama doing the same? It would have to be instigated by the North making the first move and it would have to be a biggie to bring outside countries in. The US (for example) would get praise for holding firm if they were only hit by a minor strike on, say, one of the ships involved in the war games currently in play with the South. It may take another Pearl Harbour to kick it all off.

Let the sabres rattle. As long as the children can posture they wont feel the need to actually try it on.If North Korea does attack anyone they just need to know it would be a very bad idea.I think they do know that.

Technically South Korea and the USA are still at war with North Korea, it's just a ceasfire thats in place, I really hope nothing occurs but if it does it will probably be a USA first strike :(

I am ready to be corrected but I thought that the 49th parallel was between USA and Canada.
I used to think that San Francisco 49ers were named after this but it was after the 1849 gold rush.
Is it not the 38th parallel between N&S Korea?

You're correct. The Korean divide sits on the 38th, kind of. The DMZ cuts across it.

Think the Glosters might have something to say about that...
