Long time no see
(I haven't ditched SV forum for GS forum... I was just busy :smt047)
Anyhoo!
Me and the other half want to take a nice trip up to Scotland, preferably South of Scotland since it's our first big trip, but we're not sure of any good landmarks that have a nice cabin to stay in for the week?
We want somewhere with nice views but also have some nice roads to cruise along when/IF we get some nice weather.
I've had a look at log cabin websites and tried to look at roads but.. I'm useless with that kinda' stuff.
Thanks!
And hallo again I guess ^_^
Amy.

Someone should set up a website that would help you find places and roads.

Haha :D I'm terrible at it I'm telling you! I found a nice secluded log cabin in Dunfermline but there's not that many roads around it tbh from what I can see.

It's just a shame they're not up and running yet but hopefully either the locals to the area of one of the guys involved with this will pipe up shortly with a suggestion or two.
(that or rictus, I think he's ridden every road in England[sometimes before lunch] so it wouldn't surprise me if he's covered most of Scotland too)

Go to Beinglas farm at loch lomond, then ride to ullapool, round to john o'groats and back down the east coast.
Go now as the weather is better there than it is here, just a bit chilly.
Enjoy

locals to the area - Hi!
one of the guys involved with MotoGoLoco - Hi!
If you're planning on coming up for a week, are you wanting to stay in the once place or do a bit of hopping and touring about while you're here? And, depending on how big a must the log cabin bit is, I know rather a few places dotted around here that I'm sure would be delighted to see you?

As for roads - this might do you for starters, but there's shed loads more we (as in the collective SV Ecossee lot) could suggest for you too...
Motorcycle Scotland Routes (http://www.motorcyclescotland.com/scottish-motorcycle-routes.asp)
look at the area of glen coe, especially looks up the clachaig inn (great pub and lodgings)

James will see you right. I just had my first adventure on Scottish roads today. I was grinning from start to finish and my pants are still slightly tented. MotoGoLoco may not be up and running just yet but the knowledge is alive and kicking and slowly being digitised as we speak.
you bad bad man you never told me you were up this way...

If you're going in the summer take plenty of Avon skin so soft to protect you from the midges.

Guess what....... ;)
it's been almost 15 years since I last done scotland and it very much depends on what you want as the country has many different faces, can't really help on the cabin thing as I mostly pack a tent for accomadation, but as a first excursion I'd probably go up through the Trossachs park from Dunbarton, up the side of Loch Lomand follow the road out the top to Glen Coe, A82 I believe, keep going and take the ferry across to Corran, follow the road North and it'll take you on a loop of about 70 miles before returning you to the ferry, jump back on that and cross again, shoot north to Fort william for dinner, if on the other hand you want a grander scale, so to speak carry on the A82 to Loch Garry and take the major Left there can't remember what the road number is, but it's signed for Domie, from there you have a choice of following the road over to sky and doing that loop or turning off and heading further North (personally I'd do the sky loop myself) up north you'll find the road to some wonderfully country, but to be honest I'd probably start from Avimore side if I was aiming for that area.
Hope that's of some help.
Cheers Mark.

There are lots of places to stay in the southern half of Scotland
As Peter said The Galloway Activity Centre (http://www.lochken.co.uk/) is great and there are lots of good roads in that area. It gives you these roads;
A712 (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=newton+stewart&daddr=New+Galloway&hl=en&sll=55.486395,-3.316888&sspn=0.117105,0.264015&geocode=FaugRgMdpJe7_ymFa4PMUBViSDFNRB58TUTmJQ%3BF SNmSAMdzs7A_yk9PfDJyZJiSDFu4UL3ypX72w&oq=new+gall&mra=ls&t=m&z=11) – Newton Stewart – New Galloway
A702 (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Saint+John's+Town+of+Dalry&daddr=Elvanfoot&hl=en&sll=55.017402,-4.311869&sspn=0.236991,0.52803&geocode=FfHcSAMdBXzA_ylNY7S4_pJiSDGL3wCS16CgvA%3BF Y3jTQMdZDTI_ynh31S5CqtiSDGYI2bciR6v0g&oq=elvanf&mra=ls&t=m&z=10) – St Johns Town of Dalry – Elvanfoot
The loop (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Saint+John's+Town+of+Dalry&daddr=Carsphairn+to:B7000+to:Saint+John's+Town+of+ Dalry&hl=en&sll=55.159008,-4.211128&sspn=0.118077,0.264015&geocode=FfHcSAMdBXzA_ylNY7S4_pJiSDGL3wCS16CgvA%3BF bN2SgMdf_--_ylfR6BvYYViSDGhWGjPWy2) of A713 and the B729 is nice too.
You could also stay at Tibbie Shiels Inn (http://tibbieshiels.com/) (it’s a little scruffy but not bad) it gives you close access to these roads;
A701 (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=moffat&daddr=Broughton&hl=en&sll=56.416657,-4.656963&sspn=0.914606,2.112122&geocode=FShZTAMdL4HL_ynXmRf92k19SDEUFsAs9WQNBQ%3BF TShUAMdCPLL_ynnY6_a3_qHSDEXZgdPHXCKTQ&mra=ls&t=m&z=10) – Moffat – Broughton – the climb out of Moffat is amazing (also go the to Moffat Toffee Shop)
A708 (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=moffat&daddr=Selkirk&hl=en&ll=55.443037,-3.140717&spn=0.468939,1.056061&sll=55.474975,-3.451722&sspn=0.468559,1.056061&geocode=FShZTAMdL4HL_ynXmRf92k19SDEUFsAs9WQNBQ%3BF cKiTwMdBLDU_ykJ4AqrO1l9SDE8HhwNQCZB8Q&oq=selkirk&mr) Moffat – Selkirk
The Talla Linnfoots (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Cappercleuch&daddr=Tweedsmuir&hl=en&sll=55.443037,-3.140717&sspn=0.468939,1.056061&geocode=FZXOTgMd3iLP_ynZv1cZNfSHSDH0iMMWjM2DPA%3BF Wf2TgMd6qHL_ykH93Ya6_iHSDHIeFsxxQnPzQ&oq=tweedsmuir&mra=ls&t=m&z=12) road is worth experiencing too.
There are cabins at Glentress Forrest (http://www.glentressforestlodges.co.uk/) (just outside Peebles) they were one of the options for this years GM they give access to the roads above...
If I was being honest though I’d say make the extra effort to try and get north of the Glasgow Edinburgh area and the roads become amazing.
Beinglas (http://www.beinglascampsite.co.uk/) as already mentioned gives you some wonderful roads.
A83 (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Tarbet&daddr=Lochgilphead&hl=en&sll=56.690886,-5.170183&sspn=0.028375,0.066004&geocode=Fd2aWQMdyRe4_ym1INy71wOJSDE4Zfbjvwjedg%3BF ZQTVwMd5xut_ylfxD6lk3iJSDEv_1bqYhrRTQ&oq=lochgil&mra=ls&t=m&z=10) – Tarbet – Lochgilphead
A816 (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=macdonald%20hotel%20kinlochleven&hl=en&gbv=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl) – Lochgilphead – Oban
A85 (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=oban&daddr=Crieff&hl=en&sll=56.226558,-5.493164&sspn=0.459584,1.056061&geocode=FbXTXAMduYSs_ynB8d3S0EGJSDE3wo-B_0rdgw%3BFeY8XAMdNmDF_ymvCcBDTiaGSDFXiKisCzg-Jg&oq=crieff&mra=ls&t=m&z=9) – Oban – Crieff – any stretch of this road is great, my favourite bits are Dalmally to Tyndrum (stop at the Green Welly and talk bikes with everyone) & Lochearnhead to Crieff (Country Kitchen in Crieff does great fry ups)
If you’re feeling really adventurous try making it up to Kinlochleven for the best 16 miles of road in Britain
The MacDonald Hotel (http://www.macdonaldhotel.co.uk/) have cabins at reasonable prices too.
You could of course really push the boat out and come up to this years GMvi (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=190470)J
You’ll get the chance to meet a whole load of nice people off the forum.... And me!

Can now see your picture James. Works pc doesn't let me see them... Looks a little like Talla.
.... I found a nice secluded log cabin in Dunfermline ...
Trust me there is nothing secluded in Dumps ;) but would suggest somewhere a little further west for better roads but there are suitable roads depends on how far you want to travel or what you want to see, Oban is only just over 100 miles away, Braemar only 70 odd.

I'd second that Dunfermline is an ok place but I wouldn't say that Fife is the best place for biking roads. Sorry Lance.
i totally agree fife is sheeeet roads (superb tar though) and dunfermline is a dump like most large fife coastal towns. nice people but depressing places.
if you want a mini (taster) scotland go to d&g or head north for the real thing.

Thanks for all your replies guys - I appreciate it! :) I will certainly check out the ones you've suggested but like most of you said I think we better of heading a bit further up and experience the full thing instead of just staying South!
As long as there's a hot-tub and nice roads... I'M THERE! :D

Try Pinetrees Tyndrum, next to the Greenwelly , the famous biking centre of Scotland. Loads of terrific roads and places to go from there and all in an easy days ride.
Look on the website, the place is spotless with biker huts and Lodges,I honestly have never come across or stayed at a better campsite.
I appreciate that it is a little further than you were initially looking but it is 100% worth the extra hours ride, better scenery, less traffic and some of the best rides in Scotland are all on your doorstep.
I spent a week there at the end of May. Pub[Hotel] serves decent meals at a reasonable price,Fish, burger and pizza next door,Greenwelly meals are reasonable and this is all within 300yds walk of the campsite.
I am in Scotland on the bike ATM :D Its awesome!!!! Stayed at ben more lodge first night, Balmacara second night, Dunnet third night, and tonight is just outside of Nairn. Will do a write up when I get back, but the A890 and A832 are awesome bits of road!
i'll be off to the top of our fine land and working my way back down the west coast in a week's time :-)
