View Full Version : Is this sort of thing really necessary at MotoGP?

Lots of you watching the new season of MotoGP this evening. Highly skilled riders, finely tuned machines, the pinnacle of motorcycle engineering and a great race to start the year. But I have to ask, would it really be any less interesting to watch without fluff and nonsense like this?

I mean, is she really providing any mechanical know how?

http://photos.motogp.com/2012/06/18/girl02_preview_big.jpg

Would she be able to fix a puncture?

http://photos.motogp.com/2012/10/21/paddock_girl_018_slideshow.jpg

And would you expect her to know one end of a torque wrench from the other?

http://photos.motogp.com/2012/11/11/girl_09_slideshow.jpg

I doubt it.

So let's ban the fluffy airheads and replace them with this.

They're not there to provide mechanical know how. When was the last time you heard the presenter even talk to one of them lat alone ask mechanical know how?

They're paid by the sponsors to stand there, to be looked at and hold an umbrella.

And they just about manage it.

made me smile to myself when the commentators mentioned no champagne/alcohol allowed

and then, probably completely coincidental, the pic panned to the scantily clad girls on the podium..

I don't mind them tbh, just really jealous of them firstly cos of their amazing bods and they stood next to some of my idols and they probably couldn't give two hoots about the guy on the bike...

I'm not sure if anyone told you, but they're not there to fix the bikes. ;)

It's a bit much, but i guess they help sell stuff, which is why they're still there.

There for support..... Riders become tripods so they don't drop the bikes on the start.

I want some in my garage :)

No its not a massive part of the appeal, certainly some. But either way if it gives the "airheads" a job why should we stop them?

(Good finds by the way!)

double standards make i lerf

scantily clad ladies = females, outraged / males, good
scantily clad males = females , good / males, don't care
ladies going to see a stripper = acceptable, it's only a laugh
blokes going to a strip club = disgusting perverted behavior, should be shot

They're just adverts with Pluses, except the HRC/ Respol girls who were in a pair of jeans and a blouse

They are an essential part of what is one of the only macho sports left imo. What's the harm, they're nice to look at and look good in HD. :)

There's no harm to them and they're attractive to look at. Don't see anything wrong with it.

Women are just objectified pieces of meat to be used in depraved and highly dishonourable ways by sweaty burger eating telebox ogglers, so I feel the programme creators have got it spot on. Nothing to see here.

I agree, I don't really see the need for these "Brolly Dollies". I quite like motorcycles and I quite like women, but I don't associate the two as the race organisers would hope I would.

But I do have to point out the assumptions and generalisations that are shown by the OP are just as bad as the ones that are objected to. Just because a lady has a model appearance doesn't always mean that she cannot twirl a spanner in anger.

I like the bikes.
I like the ladies.

Given the choice...skip the movie.
I rather see one of them on the back of my bike for a weekend adventure. ;)
(unfortunely I stand a better chance of winning the lottery, twice!)

There for adverts mainly.
But perhaps more,

Just before the race, you're on the bike, waiting on the start, sweating, adreneline pumping, and talking to your own personal scantly clad umbrella girl with the best body you've ever flipping seen.
Gotta be a testosterone boost for the riders as well.

Oh I know most are but a few seem to have mistaken me for Mary Whitehouse. Anyway, must get to work where I have a meeting to discuss arrangements for a fashion media event with 70 models. Male models that is. Personally I think making the poor men stand around looking pretty for a bunch of female fashion journalists is pure exploitation and should be banned under the human rights bill.

well, there is a certain similarity and I think it strange you've never been seen in a room together.

That is a fair point. However, I am only thinking of these poor girls. Example, Silverstone a few years ago, MotoGP Saturday. It was absolutely freezing, arctic type winds howling across the track so I went suitably dressed in trousers, boots, coat and scarf, as illustrated in this picture.

http://forums.sv650.org/picture.php?albumid=982&pictureid=6793

The poor lovelies handing out the posters had obviously had their luggage confiscated at the gates as they appear to have no access to sensible warm trousers. Or maybe some woolly tights. Mr LPH was so concerned for their well being he felt he ought to go over and check they were not suffering from hypothermia.

Well Carls brolly dolly had tights on Sunday.
and the MCE girls now sport longish skirts .
and them red Bob wigs keep there head and ears warm.
Also nothing stopping then putting a pair of tights on anyways.
I think your find they are quite used to the cold and harder than a miners when it comes to the cold.
If they need warming up I'm sure some of us will step up and share body warmth.

Its just envy on your part LPH, you just wish you could be on the grid with them riders.

But if you go and get your NVQ or BTEC in brolly holding, you'll be able to apply for any vacancy.

So stop being envious, get qualified :smt040

Do you know nothing? This is a special device used as part of the extensive training to become a pit lane dolly. It builds up the muscles in the arm and wrist so that you can hold up a large umbrella without the weight of your bosoms overbalancing you.
