I know a number of us hate the org being clogged with links to stuff we could find if we really wanted and with stuff we don't want to know.
We are not allowed to ignore vbadmin so get the crap like it or not.
so poll time, should the mods dump vbadmin?

If you view "New Posts (http://forums.sv650.org/search.php?do=getnew)" you get every thread, including all of the automated ones that end up in the "News (http://forums.sv650.org/forumdisplay.php?f=53)" section.
Quite annoying as the post titles often contain huge spoilers (like that of the recent Qatar round of MotoGP).
I doubt it'll be removed though as chances are it's a form of income (paid advertising).

Hmmm, seems there's a news section stuffed full of crash.net posts. That's not something I have seen before.

I must have messed with the settings cos if I click New Posts, I don't see any of the NEWS posts - have to go thru a few clicks and hoops to find them, but I see why they are annoying to others..

Dont click new posts then, quite easy really, I don't and don't have the vbadman posts.

It seems we need a Keith d option on this poll.
I think it depends how you're using the org.
If I'm on Tapatalk on the phone (which tends to be how I access the org these days) I always look at "Latest Unread" and get the VBAdmin stuff which can sometimes push everything else off the page.
If I click "New Posts" on the laptop I don't think I get the news items.

It's really annoying on tapatalk. Not bothered about on the actual forum

I get it on phone and PC and sometimes it fills the whole screen. About the only useful thing I've seen on there this year was the photos of Ewan McGregor, but I appreciate that for the rest of you that may not be quite as exciting as it was for me.

Question, those of you who use the new posts function and can see the Vbadmin feeds, what forum skin are you using. I'm sure TSM sorted this out a while ago... and some of the issue was caused by using one of the old skins that he said he would not maintain anymore.
I have flagged this in the mods corner and we'll see what we can do about it.

Viewing this way via tapatalk is the best way as it shows all threads rather than having to trawl through individual forums.
It's so annoying!

Well I don't use tapatalk or new posts feature so it's not an issue for me, I look at the sections I have an interest and that's it, it shows up bold if I haven't read them then I decide if it warrants looking at.
I use New VB Default style and see the messages. Which one is meant to block it out?

I'm not sure, I'll have a rummage about and see if I can find the thread with the information in...

I use Lucas Dark Knight and the new posts search. I used Blackberry, iPhone, laptop, desktop, different browsers, never seen vbadmin thing. I have no idea what you're on about.

Lucas style - the dark morn : no vbadmin in new posts
tapatalk : vbadmin on posts

For me
Lucas Style "The Dark Knight" using the new posts link. I cannot see any posts from Vbadmin.
I dont use Tapatalk so cant comment on that.
Edit take that back. I'm a moron, I can see them its just they are a few pages back. There's a post from TSM in the mods corner about this from a while ago saying he had amended the new styles so that the new post link would not include posts from VBAdmin so I guess its broken. Leave it with us.
Edit 2
So If I switch to the New VB and Current VB style then, change to the one of the Lucas styles and dont refresh the page or click again on new posts I can see posts from VBadmin.
So I think the problem is with the New & Current VB default skins...
If people who are having the issue can confirm which forum skin they are using, that would be really helpful.
thanks

I like vb. Never had any problem with it.
I'm sure the mods who have been around since it's inception can tell you it's far and away better than any forum software that was around before it came along.
Dump vb??
Is there something better out there?
(and do you realise the mass undertaking of creating an entirely new forum this size?)

I am not saying dump the forum software. Just the vbadmin news feeds that fill up with links to MCN or leak race results etc.

New vB Default Style. I see them when using the New Posts link. Oddly they only started popping up for me about six months ago (my memory may be out here) so if they're not new then something changed in my user settings.
I don't want to go through individual forums to see what's new so want to continue using the NP link. If the user settings can be tweaked to hide them or if we could simply turn them off that would be great.

I use New vB default style. Can't read anything else as it hurts my eyes.
I would definitely prefer not to get all the news stories if I click on New Posts. If I want news from MCN I will go there to look for it.
A good point about the spoilers. I don't really watch much of that sort on TV but know from the cricket how annoying it is if you've recorded something and tried all day not to hear the result only to have it pop up unasked for on a website.
Is there the possibility of an opt in/opt out system?

don't know what all the fuss is about. i went into the news thread once a loooooooong time ago and have never been in there again. so i choose to ignore it.. simples.
it's Johns site and he will have it how he wants it, we are only the users. better having a news feed with a bot than advertising banners flashing in your eyes.

TSM has changed the user that posts in the News section. So instead of VBadmin, they are now posted by a user called "Newsbot" which because its not an admin account you'll be able to add it to your ignore list.
In almost 4 years, I have never once noticed or clicked on the news section until now.
edit: clicking through the pages looks like the whole section should just be renamed newsbot.

How do you add a user to the ignore list? I can't work it out.

Doesn't work. I have newsbot on my ignore list and still there when I press new posts

Go to newsbot's user profile and select the desired option from the "user lists" drop menu.

Tim is right, the posts say "This message is hidden because NewsBot is on your ignore list. " However the thread titles still show.
That's still going to be an issue for Tapatalk then.
I think when it's a problem in future I'll just go to the news sub-forum and mark all as read.
