Hi everyone, just wanted to say hello. I have got my mod2 test booked for Thursday and providing I pass... I'll be riding my yellow curvy sv home on Saturday! I'm very excited having just sold my RS125 and desperate to get on a bike again!

I do have a question regarding sv's. Does anybody know what size bar ends will fit a 99 SV650s? I've tried searching but can't find anything so presume a pair of "universal" ones would be fine?

Welcome and good luck.

Stock bar ends are quite heavy to help reduce vibrations. Can't help on the size, but worth considering staying stock.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
As mark said the stock ones help reduce vibration by being weighty but if you decide to change them universal ones should fit unless they are cheap nasty ones which might not sit tight in the bar. Have you thought about sanding and spraying your stock ones?

No I hadn't thought of that but I think I've still got some spray paint from when I (attempted) to repair a panel on the rs. Thanks for that!

No problem, its not hard to do and if you've already got a leftover tin of spray paint your not even having to spend any money.

Haha that's a nice ride to do your test on, just keep your head chilled out and focused on your riding and you should do fine.
Have you already got your sv at home ready to ride or are you picking it up on passing your test?

I'm hoping to pick her up on Saturday all being well... Yes I rode it for my mod1 - such a good bike. I'd have one if they could be trusted ha ha. Definitely changed my opinion on owning a v-twin though!

Yes ducati are lovely bikes but high maintenance, I've not riden a monster myself but i have had a play on the hypermotard and WOW it was fun! Did you not like twins to begin with then?

It wasn't that I didn't like them I just thought they were slow. I've always preferred the sports bikes so anything like a monster was just something I would never have considered. Then I rode the monster and... the growl when you open it up... Love it :D

That's why us orgers love the sv's! The 4 cylinder sports bikes are fast without question, but twins have a power delivery that just makes you giggle every time you wind it back.
I've owned a sv and a bandit which are similar in power to weight ratio and all i need to say is i bought another sv after the bandit. Its a very fun bike.

That's interesting because I was thinking about a bandit or hornet as a first big bike. Think I've made the right choice ;)

The sv will definitely teach you a smoother throttle action because of the engine driving through torque rather than top end hp, lovely bike and if you look after it they are virtually bomb proof. if you remember the floods back in 2007 well my sv was still running through water up to the tank when vans lorrys and some 4x4s were getting stuck. try doing that on a gixxer : )

Ha Ha! No way?! My Aprilia hated the rain, anything more than a light rain and it would cut out... (I think I must have had an issue with the seal between spark plug and cylinder head)... I can't be doing with that anymore on the way to work at 05:30am!

Yer i have to be honest i was expecting it to completely ruin the engine but it dried out overnight had a tiny cough when i started it up the next morning and the rode me home absolutely faultless. She was a babe that bike! Like i said look after it and you should have minimal fuss.
Im guessing yours is faired?

The plastics are a bit tatty I might look into having it repaired and resprayed when I have some more money, Its a yellow '99 650s. It has a black belly pan but not the lower fairings.

The semi-faired type then, best of both worlds in my opinion as the full failings tend to restrict air flow to the rear cylinder and make it get a little hot but you've still got some wind deflection, plus personally i like to be able to see the thumping heart of the bike : )
Has it been modded at all or is it pretty standard?

mostly standard, it has a sports exhaust (still unsure to the brand as there's no obvious badge) then just the nice addition of some heated grips and a scottoiler.

That sounds like everything you need on your first big bike. i bet, i can still remember the day i went into the dealers to collect my first sv, grinning from ear to ear as i rode it off the forecourt. You will never forget that first ride :-)

Looking forward to it. The weather down here this weekend is supposed to be best of the year so far too (not exactly hard to beat) which just makes it that bit better.

Went to see a bandit this evening. Have to say it is in really good nick, A lot less miles than the sv I'm planning on buying and frankly better condition for about the same price... But I sat on it and I was just instantly worried about the weight (I'm not exactly a stocky guy, arms like twiglets) I think I'm hopelessly in love with the curvey :-S

Yer the bandit is noticeably heavier and if you not a massive guy you may struggle to pick it up on your own should it ever end up the wrong way up. if you've got your heart set on the sv I'd stick to it as you won't regret it even if its not in as good condition as the bandit. What kinda mileage is on the sv if you don't mind me asking?

The sv has 35k on her... The bandit only had half that but yeah... I know if it was to tip anymore than 15degrees it would be a lost cause! Just looked at a side by side comparison and there's almost 40kgs between the two... :-/ didn't realise it was quite that much!

I paid for my SV a few days before my Mod2 and the bike was en-route to be delivered to my house on the back of a truck while I was at my Mod2 test.........I took the bike for a spin later that day last October in the rain :-)

35k isn't too much, it may seem high but those motors really are tough and as long as you keep it serviced regularly there is no reason why it won't do that mileage again. and yes the bandit is a bit of a pie eater, i used to be pretty thin like you and mine tipped off the kickstand on some soft grass once with a full tank of fuel and i nearly popped a nut trying to lift it back up. Lets just say there was some funky language used that day!

Mines well run in at 35k. No major issues in the last 25k, just servicing and a clutch cable.

I tried a bandit, heavy, wobbly, no torque. Needless to say I bough the SV ;-).
