My Fiesta (shock, horror) has rusty rear wheel arches.

Is it practical to attempt a repair? I'm a novice...

Oh god the dreaded fiesta wheel rot :(

My other halfs fiesta went the same way a little while ago. Wire wool, kurust, filler, wet and dry paper, some halfrauds paint and an afternoon made it presentable again. Pretty much all fiestas of a certain vintage go that way though...

Was yours like mine is?

Like I say I'm new to this game, the point where my screwdriver is isn't a structural point am I right?

get new arches, cut the rust out and weld the new ones on.

I'll need to learn to weld then :)

I'd get rid of that screwdriver first!

It's not supposed to be there...

Pete;)

Heh, thanks. Will look tomorrow at how easy it will be to remove the wheel arch panel.

If you want it done properly then new arch is the way to go as Bibio said. If you want it done cheaply then it can be patched up at home. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it gets into the sill though. But as always, prevention is better than cure :p

The sills seem solid to me. Am I right in saying the arch itself where it has gone through is not structural and not cause for an MOT fail?

Don't quote me, but from memory I think it will only fail if there is any sharp / jagged edges. the arch itself is not structural.

Thank you my friend, this pleases me

Bear in Mind though, rust breeds rust.

It eats sideways so always better to clear and seal than ignore.

That's the best bit.
