View Full Version : Fan operating temperature?
Hi all im not sure if I have a temperature problem or not.
I was stuck in road works yesterday and she got a bit hot the temp said 103 the fan never cut in but she didn't over heat thankfully.
Does anyone know at what temp the electric fan should turn on at please as I don't know if I have a problem as its not got that hot before.
I would like to know as I will fix if theres a problem before the weather get any hotter [-o<
Many thanks Karl
if you are riding a pointy, the fans will kick in at c 104 degrees. will blast till it drops to maybe 100 then off again.
I have had to leave mine running hot a few times and never went above 104. if yours does, get it checked out!
Sorry yea its a 04 pointy it only went up to 103 at one point never went hotter but the fan never came on. as soon as I got a bit of movement the temp dropped down.
Thanks for the reply.
unless you are off the bike, lid off and in a quiet place you will struggle to hear the fan, with my current stock exhaust it is hard ot hear the fan, let alone when i get my new fuel can fitted :) . it may well have come on briefly to keep it at 103 and as soon as you got going the natural cooling took over.

Exactly what pyro said, 104degC and its hard to hear with the bike on, with an aftermarket exhaust you'll never hear it. Sounds like if it hovered around 103 for a while then the fan could well have been on!
I wasn't expecting to hear it guys, I was stationary so kept having a look at it.
Thanks for the reply's fellas you have put my mind at rest.

Just for info, engines can safely operate with a coolant temperature up to 115°C with a conventional radiator setup which pressurises the coolant system to ~1 bar.
On the Triumph Daytonas, the engine temperature warning light comes on at 125°C, and the radiator will **** its pants a little over that.
103°C is healthy - fans usually cycle coolant temperatures from 96-104°C. If you ever notice your fan is struggling to hold it at or under 104°C then investigate, but otherwise keep on riding :)
