Was on my way home from work when this happened. Rather than try and explain it, here is a video.

Glad you didnt get caught up in something nasty. You should report him to the police for dangerous driving.

What a bloody idiot!
That roundabout is a set lane IIRC

Good bail. You on the zx9?

Yep. Was on the ZX9, just finished rebuilding all the calipers.

He did start indicating left just before passing the bus which is why I started to slow as I wasn't sure what he was about to do. Didn't want to accelerate past him as I could see he was heading for the curb and half expected him to swerve across at the last second but he never did. Also didn't want to slam on the brakes as I had cars right up behind me so I just kept back a little and gave him plenty of space to merge in.

He bumped right over the curb, didn't he.

Holy crap, wasn't expecting that !!!

Fair play to you man, you 100% did the right thing by dropping back, I, like you, expected him to pull right across your path, he was obviously looking elsewhere.

Defo a brown trouser moment, no harm done to you so that's all that matters :)

I suspect the company will already know somethings happened, that truck will have some suspension damage/bent rims at best. I'd personally be getting in touch with the police, show them the video and get them involved, that could have been a major incident and closed the slip road. He/she'll get driving without due and attention as a punishment for something like that.

Well avoided :)

Nice one for all the c***s in cars for seeing you get shoved over and doing absolutely f*** all to let you back in safely...

What a tw@!!! Dangerous driving charge right there. Assuming you can prove who the driver is.

I'd would definately be on the phone to his company and email the vid to someone there as proof.

Good spot, good decision.

Did anyone else notice the bog roll dangling off the back of the truck afterwards.

Crazy driving

Get in touch with the IDH company and complain. We don't need idiots like that on our roads.

Now i wonder if it had the 'Hows my driving sign on the back' :-)

It's driving like that that makes me realise I need to invest in at least a cheapo helmet camera so you've got evidence if worst comes to worst.

I did get a cheapo camera, MD80 clone, five quid from ebay. Quality is pretty good in good light. The camera is useless though, battery only lasts half of my ride home and it is so fiddly to get it recording. So I never use it.

The ideal situation would be one that starts recording when it receives power from the bike, maybe mounted somewhere on the bike, oh and needs to be under £100.

I have heard that in some countries all emergency vehicles, and many drivers have cameras that record a rolling 60 seconds. If the vehicle is involved in an accident, then the camera records the next 30 seconds and stop, saving the 90 seconds around the accident, without having to have a huge harddrive to store it, or constantly taking old footage off. I think there might be a manual override for "Accident" too.

Rictus has some permanent camera type system with a rolling overwriting footage, I believe. Worth asking him what he's done.

As for the incident, I reckon he was just in the wrong lane. He probably gunned it, always intending to turn left, realising he was out of position. He probably assumed you'd shoot past so was making sure he got ahead of the other traffic in your lane. From his road position and the fact he always stayed far right, I think he knew you were there and was trying to avoid squishing you.

That's just my interpretation anyway. If I'm right, fair play to him for being aware of you being there and trashing in truck instead of crushing you, but what a nob for not just turning right and going round the roundabout again when he realised he was in the wrong lane.

As has been said already though, good sensible reactions from you. :)

That's exactly what I think he was doing. However I didn't overtake as there was a bus in the way. By the time the bus had cleared he had started to indicate and was very close to the curb at which point I didn't want to overtake as for all I knew he could have swerved across at the last second, just as I was overtaking.

With cars right up my ass, braking wasn't an option as no one expects you to brake when there's no clear danger in front of you so I kept left, slowed a little and made sure I could take the slip road if needed.

Just wrong place at the wrong time for both of us. I can't see him doing that again anytime soon.

Well handled. I know in this particular situation as you say, you couldn't fire away from the lights and get clear of him because the bus was in the way.

However, in normal situations I think you're always better using a bike's acceleration to get ahead of everyone else and create a nice little bubble where no-one can side-swipe you.
