Saw that posted on Facebook a week or so ago. A lot of the comments seemed to be along the lines that he was fantastic for standing up for himself.

I just think he's a *****.

Showed a clear divide between those on my facebook who'd grown up and those who had little respect for anything.

The guys a toilet, thinks he "won" because the police left. Doesnt know the law half as well as he proclaims, said it all when asked what his name was he replied
"you already know who mans is"
to which an officer replies
"Daniel, why are you not co-operating with our inquiry"

I'm sorry but it local officers recognise your face (provided you're not a cop yourself) you've got to seriously start questioning your lifestyle choices.

The guy is scum and he and now has a viral video to go with his asbo medals.

saw that, on one point it seems like hes been stopped a lot and has made complaints to some senior officer, as he mentions "i was told by X that id be treated wit respect (sic))

and i was pretty much backing him up until the bacon breath, i can smell bacon stuff,

which then blows his entire argument and makes him look like the ***** that he obviously is.

like you say, if the police are on first name terms with you, then your either unlucky or a tool,

i think hes a tool

He lost any respect from me at the 'your a civil servant, you serve me' crap talking down to someone who hadn't (appeared to) have done anything unreasonable.

With that voice, grammar and legal skillings I'm sure he's just a high tax payer a bit frustrated his servants aren't buffing his spinning rims

I agree mate, they are known and it's always the police victimising them, harassing them, stop being a complete twonk and grow up then they will probably leave you alone.

This is why I couldn't be a copper, I couldn't / wouldn't stand for people talking to me like that so it would end with a baton to to the face then stamp on that phone to remove any evidence.

Gob****e probably doesn't have a job, blames the world for it and is just a burden on society and as for his accent and use of English, that alone must be an arrestable offence.

If you read the comments on YouTube, there's obviously a few more of the ****s around as they are praising him.

Why not politely respond to the officer who approached him?
He could still have stuck to his guns without all that 'bacon breath' guff.
I understand he was making a point but not so sure about his approach.

Also didn't he handbrake turn triggering the officer to approach him to ask why he had performed the maneuver?

Maybe he called for support as the chap behind the camera was known to them and was getting 'alarmed and distressed' when the officer was simply trying to ask him a question.

The 'Just say no to upright video' campaign isn't doing all that well :(

And yeah as far as I know unless the law has changed - a few years ago there was a truck driver who was prosecuted for taking his phone from his shirt pocket and putting it on the dashboard of his cab while driving, despite the phone being turned off and no record of calls/texts at the time of the alleged offence..

It went as far as the home office issuing a statement saying that they take the oxford dictionary definition of 'using' to including having or holding an item. He had to take the points in the end :( not sure why they didn't have him for it.

is there a chance the officers who initially stopped him weren't quite clued up on the relevant parts of the road traffic act and so couldn't fully and properly explain why they'd stopped him?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they don't know the law inside out. You have to be a special sort of nerd to know all the regs, or be a knob like this guy and read up on one tiny part thoroughly so you can catch the cops out.

I'm guessing most cops know what they need to know to do their jobs right and that's enough, until you deal with this sort of tool.

I was thinking that! If it was a phone being used to record it they would have been able to nik him the moment his engine turned on, if not earlier!

Same as if you are drunk and sat in the back seat of your car on your own, if you have the key you have committed the offence right, because you could get into the drivers seat and move off?

I think the guy is a complete knobber, he clearly did something that warranted him being stopped, as opposed to a random stop. They are just doing their jobs.

Yes His a Knob.
But the officer shouldn't try and open the door or report a drive away when he said he wasn't detaining him.
He moved the truck with camera in hand .right theres were they could nick him.
So the officers are not Squeeky clean and as his know to them they should go by the numbers.

If by chance it wasn't a phone and an actual camera could they have nicked him? Driving with out due care?

Not in proper control would be the offence. £60 3 point. But I think it would not have accepted the ticket to a summons to court would be the only option.

What annoys me with these types of videos is not matter how stupid the person is the police officer always seem to come out worse. If the officer knew the rules a little better he might this might have ended a bit better.

The driver should have been detained for the purpose of a driving licence check as a starter.

In basic terms..

Section 163 RTA to stop the vehicle.
Section 164 RTA to demand production of their driving licence and to allow the officer a "reasonable" amount of time to check it validity.

Detained people don't get to sit in their cars with the keys in the ignition and the engine on!!
