View Full Version : That Castrol-R smell... How to get it?

So.. Along with anyone else with grey hair, I love the smell of Castrol-r. How can I get my bike to smell like that with out causing it harm? It's a K3 SV1000.

Little drop in with the fuel?
Squirt some up an exhaust mid-ride?

I fully appreciate it will add no performance benefit at all but I would love to gently perfume the countryside if I could do so without breaking my bike.

Thoughts?

You need to buy an RD 350 and ride that around a bit.

Massively useful responses gents. Anyone else got an answer compatible with my current bike and lack of parking capacity for a nice 2-stroke.

Castor oil in a squirty bottle. Apply liberally to engine block and exhaust headers. :)

I've no idea if adding a small amount to the fuel would do any damage but in a tiny quantity it may also not produce the desired effect. In any event, I personally wouldn't put Castrol R in my 2 stroke these days, never mind a 4 stroke.

Bathe in it. Allow it to permmiate your pores and the heat from your man blobs will evaporate it off and fill the air with a manly humm. There you go. No further bike purchase necessary. You have everything you need already.

Capful of rapeseed oil in the tank?

Setup a scottoiler to drip the oil onto your headers!

Put it in your lawn mower - then YOU get the benefit!

How about maybe drill a hole in the headers. Then feed pipes from a resivor .
LM grease in the exhust smells like R too.(Yes we still do that whan anyone has an exhust front pipe off and leave it un attended!!)

I've been told that you can put a teaspoonful in the tank, but I wouldn't know if that's enough to create the beautiful smell. I suspect that it would be safe for your engine at that dilution, but it's at your own risk.

We have a customer who buys some castrol r40 I think it is and puts a capful in his petrol every now and again just because he likes the smell.

we used to put a capfull (about a teaspoon) per gallon in our peds.
So I've probably only got 0.95 gallons left

If realism is what you desire, except have it drip on the exhaust somewhere under the bike.
Then you'll get the full effect, smoke and all or at least the rider behind you will, just like the 'good old days'!

If that's perfume it's off some side street dollymop. :p

Used too hate being stuck behind one on a rideout. That stinking smoke will almost make you sick. Not to mention that loud irritating sound like an angy wasp flying about.
Especially despised the Kawasaki's. POS bikes but they were fast. Apparently kawaski spent 90% of the budget on the engine.
Will admit the Yamaha RD's were decent bikes. (for two strokes)
For those to young to remember, it was that 'perfume' that got 2 strokes banned.

2 strokes are on my good riddance list along with ignition points, adjusting spokes and tubes in tyres.
Would not go back to any of these. No thank you.

Not here they're not. Still loads of 2-stroke scooters knocking about.

They certainly didn't go all out on the brakes or suspension...

Sound like most bikes from the 70's and 80's
Bimota seemed to make everyone else evolve quicker (with the YB4ie)

The one that I've heard off a couple of mechanics is to put a little bit into the end can it burns it off as it gets hot

Old 2-strokes are still legal here.
But you cannot register/title a new 2-stroke streetbike (or any imported (not US) model) for use on the street.

The frames either!
