As the title suggests.. It's a mate who wants one. He likes the look of it but the mileage is scaring him.. He just wants some approval/dissaproval from an experienced rider?

it's a 10 year old bike with 24,000 miles on it, what's he worried about? Go see it and check the MOT certificates to see when the mileage was done.

Looks pretty decent - definitely go to view before buying and ask to see service history to back up the "regular oil & filter changes" plus other routine service items..
Apart from that if I was in the market for a ninja, it looks like a decent bike.
I love them things a friend has a 2002 with over 30,000 on the clocks not given him any trouble as far as I have heard.
But another mate (I have more than 2 can u believe it) has a zx9 and has no end of electrical probs but that one is a 98 maybe older hold on I go and find out.
Just had a flick thro me piccys his is on an s reg so that's a errrrm 1998 I think but anyway good engine and box.

I admit its a strange concept to many, but some people actually ride their bikes.

well like all ebay or auction listings; ask the normal questions and get the answers threw the "ask seller a question", they then become part of the item description, that mileage isn't a problem in itself, but it's how it's been accumulated, take someone who knows what they are looking at, they will soon tell if it's been tracked or abused (factory fairings are often stored and re-fitted before sale), if you know no one suitable, then you can get it inspected by a bike shop or engineer, don't forget HPI or another vehicle checking service.

Take a mate if your not sure. Get the reg off the seller and the last MOT test number and this will give you a good bit of info too https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history-vehicle
Do it with your bike and see what comes up. It sort of tied a bit up on my bike after purchase (Bought and never used after year one up to 2009)

24,000 miles is worrying someone? WTF?
That engine is essentially the same as the one in my ZX6 which has approximately 100,000 more miles on it than that one - still good.

I'd consider that pending having a look, always had a soft spot for a nice green kwak and like the shape more on this model!

I've done about 1000 miles since Easter. Put it another way, it's been serviced about every 18 month's
sent from a weapon of mass distraction
24k lol.
should loosen up about now then.
it's moreabout how its been looked after than miles .

I don't worry about miles per se but I do shy away from higher mileage bikes (over 20k) unless they are an absolute bargain. Which I'm not sure that one is that cheap. I doubt you'll have issues with it, I'd just get the valve clearances checked and then ride it as you would.
Patience is a virtue though... I waited and waited for the right gsxr 1000 zk4 to come up... and got it with only 6500 miles on the clock for the same price that others with 25k on the clocks were going for. :)

I just bought a 10 year old vfr with 35k on the clocks.
Perfect condition, kept immaculately, runs beautifully!
Don't let milage distract you, i've seen far worse bikes that are half the age with half the miles!

Mileage on bikes and what is classed as 'high' is such a subjective thing. Cars are easy - 10-12k a year average. Bikes can be and are used so much more differently depending on the owner. Fair weather rider, everyday commuter, etc, etc.
Personally I would have no issue buying a higher mileage bike that had been looked after and serviced regularly over a lower mileage one that had been stuck in a garage for years and hardly seen the light of day.
My first bike was a Ducati Monster 600 that was hardly ever used. Lovely bike, but within a few weeks of me using her regularly the rear wheel bearing needed replacing, one of the fork seals started leaking, the throttle and coke cables started sticking and probably more things I'm forgetting. Just because a bike has lower mileage doesn't necessarily mean it will be trouble free.
Bikes need to be used ;)

All the above really.
I have a better option for your mate though - http://www.welshbikers.co.uk/forum/for-sale-wanted-lend-borrow/for-sale-2007-zx6r/new/?topicseen#new
11,000 - £3750.

I said better, not cheaper. Did you check the link? The difference in mileage is almost 13k. Its a 2007 as opposed to an 02. A much better bike with better features for not considerably more, or considerably less than the dealer cost of a good condition ZX K7. And it was only a suggestion.

You get what you pay for in the main... I bought a ZX6 (1995 model) that has only 22k on the clock - for £1,200.
The fairings are battered... parts of the electrics (as DavePreston helped me find out) are questionable at best... and the number of odd bolts that definitely weren't original scares me... however the engine is still running as good as anything with no issues whatsoever!
It all depends on how it's been looked after, and it's always a gamble. For my ninja, it's been dropped a lot... and been tingered with far too much... but the engine regularly serviced and still runs perfectly.

And ye olde ones are a mile better bike than the new ones if you actually want to ride anywhere rather than pose or do trackdays.

None needed, however: I've done reasonable distances on both and I know which one I'd pick for a trackday and which one I'd pick to ride to the other end of the country.

I've never ridden either so wouldn't know. But by your judgement, my criteria for better may be different.

That's more a matter of personal preference isn't it. But a bit off topic so will leave it at that. I know the bike in my link and just thought it was a good deal.
Yes good deal But I thought he might have a buddjey of 2K

This.
You might need to take some cash as 600 can be ridden hard and a Clumsy foot can give the gearbox a had time.
My GPX 2nd gear was allways a pig !
Look listen & ride it .
Might be fine 2k isnt much on a half decent sports bike.
A CBR 6 is a safer bet
