View Full Version : Lumpy Power When Past 7k Revs?

I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on an issue I have been having where when I want to go for it on the throttle, past say about 7k revs, I change gear and come back on the throttle quickly it feels really odd, almost bogging down? Could this have something to do with my Throttle Stop and Plates in the injectors restriction kit? http://forums.sv650.org/images/smilies/confused.gif

Restricted the 33bhp?
It could be. When i had mine restricted it used to surge at high revs but actually slower than at lower revs
Now theyre out, it really starts shifting by 7k and seems happier the more its revving

Feel like telling us what bike you've got?

K6 sv650, it seems like the most logical option, had to go with cheaper almost homemade restrictions which do the job but probably aren't as good as Fi international. Oh well only another year and 7 months of restricted joy to go.
If you get pulled and they ask to see proof of restriction how are you gona if you did it at home? You need to FI cert..

Mcn did an article recently saying how the restriction cert is not proof of restriction or a legally required document. The only way the police can tell if its restricted, is to temporarily sieze it and put it on a dyno.
Even if you have the document, how do they know you havent taken it out? All the document says is that it was restricted, on the date specified on the bit of paper.
As long as it is 33bhp or less, i wouldnt worry about it. Ride safe and dont go speeding everywhere, and hopefully you wont get stopped anyway
Fair enough, i take that back then. Should of saved myself the horrendous cost of a restrictor! I think from the op it does sound like it could be the restrictor. I find on mine it sounds like its going to keep on revving and then you get to a point and it just tails off. Still revs to redline easily 1st n 2nd tho

Its an expensive do isnt it mate. Nevermind, its still quick enough really. Im kinda glad i restricted mine. Theres enough power to learn how to ride in the corners, then it just makes it even more fun when you take em out. Having the confidence.
Yup i thought i had out grown the restriction after a year or so, but when i started adv training i unlocked alot more potential. Now i think 33 is fine for me in all areas other than on straights and overtakes where i need more punch

I agree. Still have speed limits which we have/supposed to abide by. You only end up breaking those as soon as you open it up unrestricted lol

I dont know about you guys but I find it hard to keep to the speed limits as it is, I now feel the need to overtake every borish car I come accross, guess im making up for all the times I couldnt overtake when youre on a 50cc "motorbike", although I would agree that more power would be useful on overtakes, still though I have anough to irritate a good few car drivers ;)
I find it easy when im on my own. When in a group however its harder, but still cant make many overtakes over 50mph, just havent got the acceleration. Buts thats a cb500 which does 85, i hear the restricted sv does 100 still

Speed limits are a pain in the ****. I never stray too far above em unless i know the road though. Overtaking is fun. I got overtaken by an atra tonight, only to fly past him at 95 up a hill (biggest hill for miles around here) when he was struggling for about 50.
I struggled in group rides too. I think its harder being the following rider anyway (whats safe for them is often too late by the time its your turn etc) nevermind having half the power. Its not for too long though, and the SRAD should be miles of smiles :)

Your'e absolutely right on the 100 mark, I managed it today on a "closed" section of dual carriageway. thankfully there's no speed cameras where I live, I'm in no way trying to boast and I do agree doing high speeds constantly is stupid and remarkably dangerous but its so refreshing coming from a bike that would only do 50mph to one that can actually go at a reasonable pace. :)
In reply to you otaylor, i agree with being the following rider, a few weeks back I was out with a mate who has an sv650 same model as me but a year younger, and his friend who had an R6, I thought I did some stupid overtakes but this guy was ridiculous ,I stupidly followed him out to do a 3 car overtake (dumb move on my part) he sped past while I nearly ended up getting killed because I couldn't get enough speed up, lesson definately learned on that one. :p
Yup not long. I almost got aquainted with 2 seperate cars on a ride the other day, once when i judged it a bit out and only just had the time to overtake, 2nd there was plenty of time when i started as no oncoming traffic but as i was about to overtake someone was coming up pretty sharpish so i had to grab a handful and pull back behind.. luckily ok the 2nd time as it was pretty close..you live n learn. But yeah it is nice to have that speed even if usually you cant use it. Before the 500 i had a cb250 which was like a train and only barely hit 70. It used to take about 30 seconds to overtake a lorry on the motorway, which is why i only had it 3 months and only did 2 decent mway trips in that time. By august this difficulty with speed will be a distant memory..

We've all done it at least once. No matter how fast your bike is though, theres always a 'too late' stage.
Since i took my restrictors out iv found myself thinking 'better make this a quick overtake' opening up, then found myself flying past with miles of room. Im hoping to keep my mindset like that haha

Also. Anyone else find the faster you can go, the faster you want to go. The sv flys even from low revs when yoy give it a handful. However, i cant help but think how awesome power wheelieng off the throttle on an sv1000 would be... Haha
Thats what scares me, having too much power :P

Can you have too much? Or does it just become more awesome? Then maybe more painful shortly after? Lol

Did you remove the restrictions on you're sv after you'd come off the 2 year license time or did they "fall" out while you were driving one day ;) the only reason I'd be worried if I did that was if I had an accident and the insurance company wouldn't pay out.

I did my full 2 years restricted mate.
Thats it, and obv you dont know when/if your going to have an accident lol. No insurance, driving otherwise in accordance with your licence etc etc. wasnt worth the risk in my book.
I think too much is too much when you get pulled by the undercover police biker ;)

Hmm the thought of him does scare me. Iv started going steady whenever i see a honda or bmw with a hi vis vest on. Which is alot of them lol.

Didn't know undercover police biker existing data :o was kinda weirded out today when I nodded at a police biker and he just stared at me as I drove past, guess he was admiring my beautiful degbaffled road illegal exhaust ;) not that I expect police officers give two shirts whether or not you have a loud bike exhaust :)

Unfortunately he does. Its said that he intimidates you into going faster and faster, then pulls you for speeding.
Iv had a few nod, some dont. I guess theyre still bikers at the end of the day. They just get paid for it and we dont haha.
