Has anyone brought front discs from eBay and encountered import tax and extra charges etc etc

Not from China but you can get exact copies from UK sellers, I have a rear one and it is fine.

I got a full set for my old Bandit 600 from Sandy Bike spares on ebay. Think about £200 and got new pads from them too all in.

Sorry but after witnessing the friction material actually come away from the back plate on a set of cheap Chinese pads I swore never to scrimp again.

In this world you get what you pay for and I wouldn't risk it on brakes.

On pads yeah but discs are OK.

Yup precisely i would never skimp on tyres or pads. Me and dad were talking about discs, whats the difference between £30 and £120? What have they actually changed?? The way they make the metal, harden it maybe, quality of the steel but theres no way a disc 4 times the cost could last 4 times as long or be 4 times as effective so i dont see the need to pay silly money. My cheap rear disc stops perfect with ebc hh pads.

It could last 4 times as long if the cheap one warps whenever you brake hard and heat them up. I don't know if they're good or not, or strong or not, but warping is the main enemy of your discs IMO.

True, but i rarely brake hard on the rear so hopefully wont have to test that out..

I'd consider a cheap Chinese rear as well mate. If it fails, it won't be a drama as I only use it gently too. I'd just have to buy properly the next time.

Chinese products don't automatically mean poor quality in every case. Ask all those of us who have the Chinese made clutch and brake levers. Haven't tried the discs so I can't comment on them but just because they are made in China doesn't necessarily mean they are going to be rubbish.

Exactly, a lot of OEM parts are also made in China often in the same factories.

I've used a company off ebay called zone-products, they supply english made discs at about £160 apair. Raced and trackdayed on them 2 seasons now without any probs. They aren't stainless though so do get surface rust when stood a while. Use SBS race pads and they are excellent. On the subject of Chinese stuff I fitted some pazzo style levers last year and they have been spot on so far(done 3 race meetings and 2 trackdays in fast group with them)
